I agree - you need to spend time with the litter to make your decision. I think the personality/disposition is the most important factor. When I had decided to get a Yorkie I had my mind made up that I wanted a female. I had a female cat that was my furkid for 16 years and I loved her dearly (and still miss her). So my mind was made up. We spent hours with a litter of 2 females and 2 males. My first thought was that Samson was cute but I wanted a female. After spending a few hours with all of the puppies my husband and I just couldn't resist Samson. Don't know how to explain it but he just 'fit' with us perfectly. And he has been the light of our lives since. So go into this with an open mind and best of luck! |
I'm Finally Glad to Find a Place to talk about my Yorkies!!!! Hey everbody, my name is Tonya and I have two girl babies. Gabby is the one in the pic, I couldn't get my other one of them together to load... Candy is almost 7 and Gabby is 7 months. I would like to say that I've had a boy Schnauzer and he was more prone to "mark his territory" in the house, the girls just go outside, and are very good about telling you (the little one just follows the bigger one) but.... being so little if you don't get them outside they have no qualms about leaving a "present" for you. I'm so excited to meet a group that loves their babies like I do mine! The girls at the office only want hear so much!!! |
I have a male and a female. I had Mindy first and she is very sweet, sensitive and was pretty easy to train. Bear is my loverboy. He is a total pleaser and if he upsets you he is right on your lap wanting to say sorry. Mindy on the other hand runs and hides. Bear just wants to be near me and Mindy just wants to play with Bear. She is also my jealous one and if Bear is on my chest relaxing she will lay on top of him or walk in front of him to be closer to my face then him. She's hilarious. Both very different but I can't say one is better then the other. Mindy is also much easier to groom, doesn't move one bit where Bear wants nothing to do with it. Good luck. Why don't you just get one of each. Then you don't have decide between the two.:D |
I've got both, & have always had both, & it really is down to individual temperament. I've found there are as many differences within each sex as there are between them. My most bossy, dominant one is a female, but so is my sweetest, most gentle & eager to please one. I've found the same with training, some learn quick, others take longer, no matter which sex. |

Get a GIRL .... she can wear PINK and have Dimonds, ... hi hi hi ... I think there is more out there to buy for Girls then BOYS ! |
My husband really wanted a female. When we looked at ours, the people had both parents and our little girl and her little brother. The little brother was just going "crazy", chasing the cat and biting its tail, etc. He was so cute. But the couple said if I wanted a "lap" dog, get the girl. I don't know. She is not always a lap dog. More so in the last year (she is six now). I sometimes wish we would have taken both. He was so cute!;) |
Madeleine is my first dog so I can't help you, but I just wanted to say good luck deciding which one to get. I think no matter what you will love it and then you'll want another one (I know I do :p ) |
