I think i did a nono Ok as some of you know i put the babies ine bed with me the other night (on a mattress on the floor) because of a bad storm our electricity went out and i wanted to keep them warm. Well now that we have it back on i put them in their kennels and they all cried :(. I thought they would stop after a few minutes but it only got louder :( So hubby takes the mattress off the bed AGAIN and puts it on the floor. I let the babies out and they go running to the bed and fly under the covers  So now i have 3 furbutts that like sleeping under the covers right beside me what am i going to do. We only have a full size bed looks like we are going to have to go mattress shopping again  but what do you do to keep your babies from rolling off? For now we are just putting the mattress on the floor but i don't want it to stay there forever. Or is there any advice on how to get them going back in their kennels at night? I never had to work with any of them on the kennel thing because from the first night we brought each one home they never cried a bit they loved their kennels well that is until the other night  Mary |
They are such manipulators...unless you want them to sleep with you then put them right back in their crate and ignore them. They will realize they can't run the show. |

Mary, I congratulate you and your husband for allowing your babies to sleep with you. It is such an incredible feeling to wake up with a furkid cuddled next to your tummy and a paw in your ear or your mouth. Life is way too short to worry about some things and where your dogs sleep is one of them. |

These guys are little manipulators because they know we love them. I don't feel bad about her in that crate becuase I know she will be safe plus shucks she even has a down blanket in there. |

We have three chis, the eldest sleeps in a crate in our bedroom, the second prefers to sleep on her own armchair in the lounge and the baby sleeps in a snuggler on our bed. |
I tried letting my oldest yorkie sleep with us at one time, we did it for about a week, I couldn't sleep as well, so, I took her back out in the family room, she started up the first night for a minute, I went out there and told her to hush it up, and never once since then did she cry anymore..I've just started putting all 4 dogs in the cage at night time too, and they've done really well in there..you just have to show then who alpha is.. |
Mary that sort of thing happened to us.....Izzy was crate trained and always slept in her little bed in her crate for months after we got her (6/07). Then when we knew she could hold it all night my husband...hehehe....he was the one that said why can't she sleep with us? Let's give it a try. That little stinker has been in our bed since...it's like Cindy said....it's nice to have her cuddle up to either one of us and smell her. Izzy is so tiny and we have never had a problem with rolling on her, etc. Hey - when she gets too warm or too tight against us she moves.;) The only problem we had was over the holidays when she had the runs for a couple of nights (we switched food on her and it was too high in protein) and I tried to keep her in her crate...she wanted no part of that but I had to cause we didn't want her to mess our bed. To each his own....some like in the bed some like out of the bed...for us....life is short and we like her with us.:D It's whatever works for you.;) |
My Bella always sleeps with me and always will! I love having her there everynight and every morning when i wake up. She is such a lil cuddler! My bf Chris isnt a big fan of it....but hes never had a dog....haha he was deprived as a child haha he is getting used to her sleeping with us tho! Im all for it! The really young pups should sleep in an ex pen or crate tho. |
I can't offer any advise! Tessa has slept in bed with us since day 1:rolleyes: She loves to crawl under the covers (I have a heated mattress cover) and sleep either by my feet or curled up to my butt. Since I sleep nekked:eek: I have to becareful of a cold nose:eek: I worried about her falling off the bed but she seems to know when she is too close to the edge and will move between hubby and me. I love waking up to her kisses in the morning:D |
My furbabe sleeps with me and Dh But ever since I had a nasty cold my Dh slept in another room. Now that it's gone, when it's time for hubby to go to bed, the dog just stares at him until he vacates our bed and goes into the other room. My Dh has a back problem and sleeps on a firmer mattress as I have a adjustable bed and sleep on an angle to keep from coughing. We all start out in one bed but Dh leaves about 8pm for his own bed . We all have our dessert in bed while watching TV then Toto starts his stare so he can have me and the bed for himself. |
They are such crafty lil beggars! Pixie has been in a crate at night since we first brought her home, one night i decided to try her in her little bed down by the side of my bed, I can't have her ON the bed as she's so tiny and could fall off and get injured. she was ok for half hour or so..then sat up in her bed staring up at me..I knew what she was thinking! and she started crying to come up on the bed...I knew then it probably wouldn't work and promptly took her back downstairs to her crate again! as much as I would love to have her on my bed and in my room at night..I don't think I want to break her routine and create bad habits..she's so very good at going to bed right now and gets into her crate by herself by about 10.30pm! so her crate it is! I would put them back in their crates and suffer the whining for a night or two and get them back into their bedtime routine.;) |
Sorry I can't help you. All 3 of mine sleep with me. Usually, it's 2 at the bottom, 1 up top with me...when I'm not home, they stay on my bed......I guess my bed is their crate!!! |
AWWW I wouldn"t have it any other way .Ilove waking up and my furbabys are right there sleeping next to me . |
I love Georgie sleeping with me and You would be amazed at how quick he moves when I move. I also have never had him fall off the bed you learn to sleep very still and are careful when they are in bed with you. Georgie was in a crate for 10 minutes the first night we brought him home. He cried the entire time and I got him out and he has been in our bed ever since and I love every minute of it. :D |
Mine have always slept in the bed. I'm no help!:D |

after reading this thread im starting to wonder if there is something wrong with my dexter...he doesnt like to sleep in bed with us!! he is now 6 months and has full run of the house and i figured he would LOVE to sleep in our bed, but he always jumps off and sleeps on the couch in the other room. strange! if you really dont want them in bed with you, you will have to put up with the crying for a while. if you let them out and into your bed when they cry, they will learn that crying gets them what they want. if you dont mind them sleeping in your bed, then get a larger bed that is also closer to the ground! :p |

Now I guess you all know my furbutts sleep with us and the closer they are to us the better we feel. good luck in what you do... :D |
All my dogs sleep in our bed..our VERY small bed lol...I cant even fathom them falling off the bed..once they get in our bed they snuggle up to us so tightly and keep us warm..they do know when we roll over so do they and then they reposition theirselves again too...ours have slept with us since 8 weeks old and they will sleep in their crate too if we need them too for any reason..if you want them back in the crate you are going to have to listen to them cry for a couple hours but they will quickly realize that you arent going to release them for crying...its a trick they have taught YOU lol...you get a milkbone!! :D Dawn |
We slept with Zada and Azrael starting when they were around two years old. They never cried at night though when they slept in their own beds. Of course I never shut the door on their crates either. They had the kitchen area and wee-wee pads down. Then when my husband went to Alaska for 2 months, I put them in bed with me and is where they slept till this past Dec. when Zada got the runs in our bed. That was it for me. :D They went back to the kitchen area until we bought the little pink home and travel bed. I put nice soft thick blankets in it and cover them over with a sheet at night. It's at the end of our bed. Now at bedtime they run to their bed and jump up and down wanting to get in it. Now we are all happy. :D |

Sorry, can't help you either. The girls sleep with me, it they have to get up at night they just give me a little kiss on the nose. I can't sleep without them anymore, I'd toss and turn all night without them. |
while ali was away at the weekend, i let chip sleep with me :embarasse hehe, now that she is back, we want some alone time, but chip keeps jumping out of his draw, and trying to get up on the bed, if we ignor him, he just keeps doing it, need a bit of advice here too, i dont mind him sleeping on the bed, but ali doesnt want him peeing on it thats the only problem we have with it |
they won't roll off the bed, well at least my boys never did! They went in, went under and were out! I worried about rolling on top of them but you dont do that either, you just know not to... somehow in your sleep you know not do that. However if you want to put them back in the crate, put a blanket over it and a ticking clock inside along with another blankey! They will be fine! :) |
Think we have decided to keep them in bed with us :) |
