We are getting our money back!
 

As many of you know our first Yorkie, Bandit, died a month after we got him. We have been fighting the jerk (American Breeders in NJ) who sold him to us for 2 months now, trying to get our money back. We were clueless at the time and bought him from a pet shop. Well, the guy basically said tough luck, I'm not giving you a dime. He was dealing with the wrong person! I reported him to the Division of Consumer Affairs, they regulate the sale of cats and dogs in NJ. When they didn't work fast enough to suit me I called my congressman and asked his office to help. They put pressure on the Division to work on it. The woman working my case called today to say that the pet store sent a letter to her saying they would refund the purchase price of the dog. (over $1700) I'm so glad. No amount of money can bring Bandit back, but this guy was so arogant and snotty to us I'm just glad we were able to hit him where it hurts. Once I get my money some of it is going to go towards picketing this place and making sure people know they get their dogs from puppy mills. If I can do anything to shut him down I'm going to. His attitude during the whole thing was disgracful. He couldn't care less about the pain my family went through when Bandit died. I'm glad I got some kind of justice for Bandit. He deserved so much more!

Sometimes the best way to hurt someone is to hit them in the pocketbook. You may want to send a letter to the editor of your local paper telling your story also.
To bad you had to learn about petshops puppies the hard way, but I'm sure in the future you will be able to make wise choices and everyone here will be able to give you advice. Good Luck

Doesn't it feel good to know that once in a blue moon the system does work for the good! The money won't bring the puppy back but you made the man dig into his pockets.

I am so glad that you got some kind of justice...although it won't make the hurt of lossing Bandit go away but it will make you feel like you did something to make someone else not feel that pain!!!

Good job Teri. Your actions are definitely something to be proud of.

That is terrible that your little puppy died and you had to go through tons of extra grief. I hope you find a puppy that will give you years and years and years of happiness!

Teri - Like everyone said - it doesn't help the pain you feel but it SURE IS GREAT to hit them where it hurts doesn't it ? This is really good news about your money - We'll ALL remember Bandit in our hearts - and I just bet he is smiling for you and very proud of his mommy for not giving up.

we got another puppy already. we've had him 5 or 6 weeks now. i don't know if you've read about him at all but his name is tucker.

I am so happy to hear this. I know how much you all loved Bandit and to have some sort of justice served, is great. I also want to applaude you for putting some of that money back into stopping petstore sales! AWESOME!

Im so happy that you got some kind of justice. OF course money wont give you Bandit back, but you teach this man a lesson. He thought he can get away with selling indefenseless sick puppies and not get penalize for it. This man only care about the money not the care of the pup; so Yes hit him where it hurts him thye most, his pocketbook. Im also happy that you are considering picketing him so people know what kind of person he is, that also will teach him. Maybe he will at least start caring for the well being of the pups instead of money.

Congratulations! Everyone should stand up and put these horrible breeders out of business. I'm glad that you were able to get the responses that you need. Now, they better hurry up and send the check!!!

Way to go teri and megan! I remember when that whole thing happened, and I'm so glad that you're doing what you can to shut this guy down completely! The money won't bring Bandit back, but it might make this guy think twice about what he's doing to these animals and the families that they go to.

Now that I am more experienced with yorkies and more knowledgeable of puppy mills it makes me sick to my stomach that people can actually do that to innocent puppies, or any breed, so good for you! THere is a wonderful new puppy out there for you, just keep on keeping on.

Maximus and I are sooo proud ...and we are in Staten Island so we will join your picket of this store!!!...In memory of bandit and all the poor dogs that suffer a similar fate due to the cruelness of puppymillers and their supporters!!!

You go gettem! Not enough people are able to work thru their heartbreak and take them to court or deal with their pocketbook..Bandit is across the bridge cheering you on..

As a mother of 4 furbabies, I tend to know a lot of people with dogs. Get the word out and hit them in the only place you can hurt them... their wallets!!!

That said, I know nothing can take away the hurt of Bandit's loss. I've heard of stores wanting to replace a sick pup. After giving your heart over (which I understand is instantaneous!) how could they even begin to expect you to abandon them!! I don't get it!!
