Belly Bands? I see a lot of pictures and videos of little boy furbutts wearing belly bands. Why are they used? Is it to stop them from marking or going pee in the house? (or both?) Moose is our first "male" dog ever. (even as a child I only had females) So I am not real familiar with the belly bands. Actually I never heard of these until YT! Thanks. :animal-pa |
I didn't know what they were either; Charlie is my first male pup. He wears one when I am at work during the day so he won't pee pee. Doesn't need it when I am home but 7:30 - 5:30 is a long day. Charlie's is made with flannel and velcro. Simple to make, inexpensive and a incontinence pad is worn inside. I can send you directions and much more comfortable than the elastic type the pet stores carry plus easy to launder. Just make sure to wipe his "private area" with a warm wash cloth to remove urine. Warmly, Deborah |

My Biewer boy P-Didy is completely crate trained and also has done really well in the house. However, now that he is coming of age...he thinks everything in "his" world...including me if I stand still long enough...needs to be marked. Belly bands are worth their weight in gold in my house. Helps me keep my sanity. : ) |

Yes, it is to stop them from marking in the house. |
Yep, they are for marking! My little guy wears them 99& of the time because he likes to lift that little leg of his  We do give him a break from it at night though when he is sleeping. I would say that this is the ONLY downfall to having a male dog! We call it his "karate belt" - hence the leg lifting :p |
Deborah, thanks for the offer, but we don't need them. (thank goodness! LOL) I was us curious about them. It seems a lot of males are wearing them. I just wasn't sure if they were used more to prevent marking or the tinkling! :D |
My boy pees everywhere!!!:( (he is neutered). I have bought several different types of belly bands but I swear he acts like I have his peepee in a vice. He barely walks around, stands there staring at me, walks with one leg tilted to the side. He guilts me to death and gets away with not having to wear one all the while destroying my carpet. HHhhhmmm, I think he is running the household  |

Do most males only mark if they haven't been neutered? |

This has been a very interesting discussion. I want to get a male dog sometime and now know about these. |
Hi Linda and Moose...I had two males Yorkies way before Izzy...both were neutured early....one marked and one didn't...but they didn't have belly bands back in those days..hehehe. If Moose doesn't mark then no worries..but at least you know there is help if it ever happens.;) |
