Senior Yorkie Talker | Am I a bad mom???? My 2 year old yorkie male Daemar is going to breed with a Maltese..they both are kind, well-trained, and most importantly HEALTHY (vet checked them out). A lot of people said I'm being cruel and I shouldn't have let this happen. I do not have full ownership of my Yorkie. We do not care about the money and we know many people very suitable to take care of the puppy we will receive to take care of (we know a few people who would want a dog... I'm probably going to give the pup to my cousin because she is a dog expert and she recently had to get rid of her dog because of her moving.). We are also willing to help pay for the pups that the maltese gives birth to... And I will not accept any dogs that have health problems to go to pets. If one of the pups do develop a health problem, I will take full responsibility and pay to have the pup taken to a good hospital or vet clinic. Is it wrong that since these dogs are "interested" in each other I let them breed??? My dog has never acted this way around a dam before and I am to the point where I am utterly confused and I don't know what to do!!! Am I a bad mom??? Please Help???? |

| You shouldn't mix the breeds & in addition if the person that you counting on giving the dog too left one behind already wwhat makes you think she wont do it to another one. That's torture & if so many people are interested why cant they just go into the shelter where lots of puppies needs love & care. Please do not let it happen!!!!

Senior Yorkie Talker | thanks. the reason my cousin had to get rid of her dog was because my granny was dying and she couldn't take tippy w/ her... she gave him to neighbor and best friend and she still goes to visit him.... thanks for the good advice... oh yeah, the other owner has more power than me over daemar so i have 2 convince him(that'll be easy though)... my dog cant get get neutered (at least in the next 4-5 months) and these dogs are REALLY REALLY attracted to one another... what should i do?? What does this mean? You don't have full ownership of your yorkie? Quote:
Well, why wasn't your dog neutered? Of course he's going to act that way around a female in heat. He'd probably act that way around any female in heat. If you haven't already bred them, please don't. There are so many unwanted dogs in this world - millions are euthanized each year. Please do not add to the outrageous pet population. Breeding is NOT something to take lightly

| The OP is 13 years old and posted a thread about breeding her yorkie before. Obviously did not listen to advise given then http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...68#post1293068

| Please get him neutered asap. Many males really don't act interested in females or exhibit the undesirable traits like marking until they get to about two years old. Unless you've had extensive testing done like bile acids test, xrays of knees, eyes certified, thyroid panels done, you can't know that they are healthy from a basic vet check. Maltese and Yorkies are prone to many of the same genetic conditions and you may produce puppies who carry these genetic time bombs. |

| I have no doubt that you will get a lot of responses to your question! This always becomes a big topic. I'll just say one thing. I wouldn't breed them just because they are "interested" in each other. If he's not neutered he's going to be "interested" in A LOT of females and that doesn't seem to me to be a good reason to breed a dog.

It seems as though your wanting to breed just because your dog likes another... regardless of the breed and thats not a very good reason. You did state that you've got many people interested in taking the pups, but with the main person in mind.. being a friend/fam of yours thats had to get rid of a dog before, how reliable is that It just seems like you want to breed just for the heck of it...and whoever comes along to take the pups are welcome... It doesnt seem right to me...but to each his own...

YT Addict | I think it is awesome that you have posted your concerns and have asked for advice... Please leaving the breeding to the breeders!

Senior Yorkie Talker | reply to comment myfairlacy, this was about breeding with a yorkie... i have learned more since then and i know that i'm not ready to be a breeder...the maltese owner is a breeder. Also, then I was posting about breeding with other yorkies... this is a different topic. Now I am 100% sure I'm going to get my Daemar neutered as soon as he can so he, the dam, any puppies get hurt!!! Thanks guys!!! |

Senior Yorkie Talker | also, it is not my decision if he breeds or not because of the other owner... but I do have somewhat of a say in this situation (AKC papers... we are sort of have "joint custody") and so i was asking for your advice and that's why i asked that question about breeding a while ago because I would be involved in the breeding proccess with the ADULT owner but i felt like was in charge (lol) so i should do a lot of research...
