my first yorkie puppy

Hi there,

im new to this board and so exceited i found this board.I saw my puppy yesterday.My husband and i drove 2hrs outside of virginia to see him.The owners were really nice and we met the mother and father and the older brother of the puppy which was nice.the pyppy was 8weeks old and sooo cute.I fell in love with him.Im getting him feb 10th,jus two days before my birthday.We are going to Petsmart to buy bunch of stuff for him,i have no idea what name to pick for him,clueless.
I will post a picture of him as soon as i get him.Im soooo exceited.
what can i expect the first night?any advice?

Congratualations, can't wait to see pics...LOL the first night, well, do you have any children? If so, then expect it to be like that..if not, get plenty of sleep now, most likely you will need it....

You will have him in bed with you if I know my dogs... My lst one slept with us the lst night over 20 + yrs ago... as he just wanted to be close to us... God Bless you and your new baby boy and welcome.. I have 14 from 16 yrs to 6 months old...and my boys are just the best... They are like potato chips... I bet you'll get another...

dont have any children yet but im sure i will spoil this puppy.he was soo cute.i wanted to get two of them.i cant wait until three weeks are over.
so the first thing i need to do is take him to the vet and then have him registered,right?i have no idea where i go to have him to register?
i never had a puppy before

If it's akc, they will give you the papers to send in, I've never sent papers in but one time, and that's when I bought a pomeranian, I sent the money in for her papers, but, my g-friend whos had poms all her life, saw my puppy and said, what kind of dog is that? I told her a pom and she laughed and laughed(kind of hurt my feelings), so, I sent pictures to AKC, and they supposedly lost the papers..so, papers to me don't mean a hill of beans, unless you're going to show or use them for breeding..if not, i wouldn't myself spend the $25 or whatever it cost now for their papers..also, you want to get him netuered between 5-6 mos(if you're not using him for one of the above mentioned) to keep from getting certain cancers, and to also keep him from marking..it makes a much better dog once they've been neutered..and yes, get him checked with in the time given by the breeder(usually 3 days I think)..

Oh how nice. You will enjoy your little one. And it right once you have one you will be hooked and need more. You have time to pick out the name. And the papers are easy and your breeder will walk you through all that information. You don't have to go anywhere for that just mail the papers in and fill out the information on the papers. You will make it through it all. Make sure to take him a blanket and have the breeder rub it with her scent or the other puppies and put it in his bed or crate. He will make it alot better through the night. He won't feel as lonely. Good luck and we will be waiting on pics. Welcome to YT.

Welcome to YT!! So glad to have you here. Can't wait to see pictures of your little guy.

There is a list on here somewhere of things to have on hand when you bring a puppy home. Or you can search for that.

I would recommend reading up on crate training and deciding where he will sleep and how you will housebreak him. Have a game plan before he comes home & do your research. Lots of good info here on YT, just use the search options or ask lots of questions.

Hi and welcome. Post pictures of your new family member soon as he's home. The only thing I can suggest is NOT to sleep with a puppy. Unless of course you don't mind pee and poo. You could put him in a playpen near your bed, and put wee-wee pad down for him and a little water. If you go to him when he cries, then expect him to cry all the time. If his cries go unanswered, he will soon quit.

I couldnt be happier for you....here is our Oliver on the day we picked him up! That was a little over a year ago now, but seems like yesterday. It was one of the happiest days of my life. And not a minute of regret since. He is the best little guy you could ever want! He is smart and was surprisingly easy to housebreak! I could not love him more! I think you will be just as happy! I use an xpen also and love it, and one more thing that may help out, to leave a radio going while he's sleeping..
