Teddy Bear Yorkies..... i know that there is no such thing as a teacup or anything, but is there such thing as a teddy bear yorkie? i heard of that on certain websites and i wondered if it was true. some of these sites also advertised teacups, thats what made me wonder. i have learned so much on here i figured i might as well ask this too. :) thanks!!! :D |
Well... I always thought a "teddy bear" puppy is a Shih Tzu & Bishon Frise mix *designer mutt*. Here's a pic: http://www.puppyhavenkennel.com/imag...on_ShihTzu.jpg I think a teddy bear Yorkie is maybe one that stays black & tan. Just a cutesy name for something that you can't guarantee - just like teacup. |
Some breeders advertise their puppies have teddy bear faces or baby doll faces.I think it is just a marketing strategy. |
This is new to me but come to think of it a new yorkie puppy does look a little like a teddy bear. |
teddy bear Some people just imply by saying "Teddy Bear face" that they have a cute face with a lot of fur around the head. This usually turns out to be your thicker coated yorkies, but might not/usually does not have a silky coat. That's all. T. |
I also have been noticing this a lot, and have found that when they are described as having "teddy bear" or "baby doll" faces, they have the shorter nose/snout. |
Teddy Bear Face 3 Attachment(s) My Jackson has a "Teddy Bear" face. |
ok thanks everyone! |
teddy bear i had a teddy bear yorkie he was 5 lbs but they mean that they have short noses wide almond eyes stay black and tan and have a wooly coat thats not silky there ears are short and wide and have an "applehead" so cute! my little teddy bear yorkie passed away and i cannot find a yorkie that stays black and tan i do not like the silky coat usually those are extremely expensive because you cant find them as often ...i've been looking for 2months now! so if you find one thats not outrageously priced pm me ! Merry Xmas |
Alot of people refer to Lacis face as a " Teddy Bear" face, I think alot of dogs with a cottony coat have a teddy bear face!! |
I'm pretty sure Ruger has a teddy bear face, but I don't know how long that's gonna last. |
1 Attachment(s) I think it has a lot to do with the face. I had a puppy in a recent litter that I thought looked just like a teddy bear. We named him Teddy. His new parents named him Coby. But he will ALWAYS be "OUR" Teddy Bear!:) |
wowwwww this is an old thread LOL. |

Sorry, but you will not find a REPUTABLE breeder purposely breeding to achieve this or marketing them as such. |

:thumbup: Agree, not breed standard! |
I call mine 'osita' (little bear) as her nickname :). She turned 2 01.Oct, and still has her black/tan puppy coat. I think she's a cotton-coated yorkie. Her coat is wavy and a bit puffy. She looks like a permanent puppy, but she's a big girl - 12 lb, 2 oz. People ask always 'where'd you get that color yorkie, I wish mine still had those colors?' I tell them it's not the normal, correct marking, but the ignorance of some people is just mind-blowing, |
My Azrael looks just like a little Teddy Bear, and every person that sees her says the same thing. She's adorable!! |

i see both mine tends to have a longer face type but sometimes i look at him and see the teddy in him there is one lady on here that has a picture of two of her babys one looks like mine and one looks with the shorter face and teddy appearance, don't most of them grow out of this teddy appearance I have not seen this in the adult yorkie just the puppies so I'm not sure either. I know I was hoping when I got mine that he would be more like the teddy but now they he is here I sure wouldn't trade him...and I think he is going to be silky check our/ his picture he is so cute....he is now 15 weeks old |
Yes some do keep Teddy bear face mine did who cares if it's breed standard as long as he's healthy I'm not planning on showing mine let me know what you guys think |

When I first brought my little Suzi home I would look at her tiny little face , and think of her as my little teddy bear. However, several months later I brought home a Shih Tzu pup. She really had the teddy bear face , and still looks like one. Round face, big eyes, and lot's of fur. 2 very different breeds , both , having lots of fur around their eyes and too cute . I believe when you see a breeder advertising yorkie pups as having these type of faces it is for the sole purpose of selling them . As cute as they are , I would be cautious of a breeder using this as a marketing strategy. |
All i can think of is a teddy bear cut which is in reference to grooming. When I get Hugo groomed his groomer does this for me! As soon as I get a digital camera, I will take pics of him before and after his grooming experience! |
I just want to remind again that this thread is from 4 1/2 years ago. thanks to my years on YT I've learned that breeders who use terms such as these are generally just out for money and not bettering the breed. I've learned my lesson, now hoping this thread can help someone else learn theirs! |
Sandy always looks like a teddy, I hope he will look like one when he's older. *lol* A colleague saw his pic on my FB and she said, 'Is that for real? He looks like a teddy!' :D |
Anyone who is breeding non-standard Yorkies or any other so called purebred is either doing out crosses to another breed or just using breeding stock that is so far off standard that that they have to give it a fancy name. I don't mean to insult anyone's pet. I'm sure they are lovable enough but the breeder is not doing reputable purebred breeding.. |
