oh and to add one more thing...to each his own...but remember ethics play a big part in everything...too bad some don't have strong enough ethics where it be in showing, breeding or even everyday life such as the workplace, marriage, raising kids....
Glad I know I can live with myself and have a clear conscience in my breeding practices...not saying most on this thread doesn't have it either but if the shoe fits....

I know, I raised 3 kids(all turned out very well), now, I have 2 g-kids, and a hubby of 31 years..and if I bred mixed bred dogs, I would still have a clear conscience, but, now, on the other hand, if I bred purebred dogs, and maybe charge $2000 and up, I probably would feel pretty bad about myself..

What does someone's family life (marriage and children) have to do with a Morkie? I understand what you are TRYING to say, but you are wayyyyyyy off base to bring such personal things into a thread about DOGS. I think that it is great that you are proud of what kind of breeder you are and that you have a clear conscience in your program, but I don't understand why you had to make it about a person's family life.....

Oh well, I am done with this thread. Good luck to the OP in whatever decision you make....Morkie or not. :)

Totaly agree and I thought great breeders did not do it for profit they breed for the love of the breed .I think alot of them worry about designers because it takes money away from their pocket book and then they cannot get those outragous prices that some of them charge, or just a profit whatever they charge.
To the OP please post a pic of your new baby whatever you decide to get.
We all love babies no matter what they are.Even adults if that is what you
decide to get.

I sleep pretty good at night. I've bred Yorkie, Maltese and yes Morkies for over 6 years and always, always, always had a waiting list for morkies, even if they weren't going to be available until into the next year. Not that my pure bred Maltese and Yorkies weren't beautiful pups, just that so many people desire the morkie, they still get a toy dog but at a more reasonable price. I've retired two of my maltese now so there won't be many more morkie litters but I've always been proud of all my pups and always will be.:D

I don't think I'm off base , ethics are ethics plain and simple...I was using the workplace, family thing as an example...because if you have ethics in those areas you should have ethics in breeding :)
Again, my opinion only...

I'm glad and truly happy all turned out well :) that is the honest truth...being married that long is something within itself...

I sleep pretty good too as I stated but charging that much is something I don't have to worry about :) so again I am happy with my beliefs and ethics :)

Of course mixes are cute. I love all dogs. But I will never condone breeding mixes on purpose. Any breeder that breeds mixes purposely is NOT a reputable breeder :thumbdown What's the purpose in breeding mixes? They are not a breed & don't have a standard so you can't breed "to improve the breed" which is the main reason to even think about breeding. The people breeding these dogs are not breeding for any purpose and are not trying to create a new breed - they are only breeding these dogs because they are unfortunately a fad right now and are selling for so much money. Reputable breeders breed to improve the breed & because they love the breed - no reputable breeder breeds mixes. And these "designer dogs" are NOT healthier than purebreds as some like to say. Many of our toy breeds share common genetic defects so these mixes are just as likely to get them as a purebred. You have a much higher chance of getting a healthy dog if you go to a reputable breeder that health screens their dogs. Any breeder (of purebreds or mixes) that doesn't screen their dogs has a higher chance of getting puppies with genetic defects. There is just no way I would support someone breeding mixes. There are so many unwanted animals in this world - millions die each year - and all these byb's are just contributing the the overpopulation. There are so many purebreds and "designer" mixes in shelters and rescue groups right now. If I wanted a mixed breed dog, I would adopt on through a rescue - but I can not condone those that breed them. If you want a mix, please adopt one that needs a home. Same things with a purebred I guess...I've seen you say that you don't care if your yorkie has papers - so why not adopt one? Please don't support bad breeders...find a reputable breeder that breeds for the right reasons or adopt one that needs a home.

Ditto

I understood the comparison that you were trying to make and what I was saying is that is getting VERY personal. I knew where that would go and look,it has...people are getting very upset at your comparison. This is because, yes, it takes strong ethics to be a good honest breeder, but I still don't think that you bring people's children into a discussion about dogs. Like I said, I understand where you were trying to go with your comment, but you have to be very careful when you are talking about someone's marriage and especially their HUMAN babies! I don't know....just didn't think it was the best way to explain your breeding ethics, by using someone's marriage and children.

Ok, I am now taking this off of my subscribed topics because I said I would not post anymore and yet, here I am.

So to go back to the orignal question"what do you guys think if a get a Morkie?" I think you better get a purebred yorkie ASAP so you are not thought of as an unfit mom with rotten kids, an unethical person (just in general), an unworthy wife and an unruly employee. (And from another post) I'm sure you have a fur or two somewhere in your closet. And you would not be able to continue living, your conscience would be too cloudy. Oh, and your uncomfortable shoes will finally fit you just right.
Sorry, when I looked at it this way I had to laugh. Not stated in a mean spirted way . Just looking at that post from a different view. I know it's silly, but the thought made me laugh. By the way, I own two purebred dogs with papers, but I like Morkies, too.

I appreciate your comments really I do...and I know you understand my passion...but honestly I didn't mention anyone's family in particular if it was taken out of context then I apologize but I still stand behind what I stated :)
But....my belief is...if they took it out of context then maybe ethics should be reevaluated? I'm not talking about you :) I think we've spoken in PM's and I like you and we have come to the agreement to agree to disagree :) I am passionate and I will not apologize for that :)

I treat my dogs as I would my human child they are all gifts from God so with that everyone knows how I feel and I will leave it alone :)

Brooklyn, I do have a question for you..not sure how long you've been breeding, but, what do you do with the retired breeders?

I have a Morkie named Sarge. He looks exactly like a yorkie but that was purely luck...They are pretty unpredictable in appearance. I attached a picture of him, he's full grown now at 4 lbs.

OMG how adorable...is his tail docked? I know my sister docked the tails on the ones that looked more yorkie, and left the tails on the ones that looked more maltese.
