Default What am I to do?

Hello Folks...

Well as you know.. I work a fulltime job as a nurse and My boyfriend is the one who takes care of all 3 of our doggies when I am at work. Well since he is a nurse now too, he will soon start working and that leaves me with my dilemma.

I've heard of things as putting dogs in kennels.. but i know that is for people that are going on vacation or what not. But i will have no one.. and i mean no one to watch over the dogs while we are both working. So i do not know what to do. Anyone ever done a pet sitting service or had experience. I'm kind of iffy with it..

And I don't really think its good to crate all 3 of them alone for 8 hours ... and lately.. they've been very very very bad with their potty training and i can't seem to whip them back into shape.

Anyone have any ideas? any would be appreciated.. thanks all!

You may have to completely Puppy Proof one room. Put their beds, food, water and toys in there. I don't know if you are wee wee pad training them or outside training them. If wee wee pad, then put those in the room too. At least they will have each other for company.

There has been a lot of talk about X-pens. My Rox loves hers, although she is a tiny one.

I saw something on TV the other day about doggie day care? I don't know if that's a possibility. If you have a responsible teen or someone you could toss a few bucks at to watch them after school, it might be a solution...

well they keep each other company when we are away... but my only problem is, when we leave they will be in our room (we still live with our parents and are currently trying to find a place of our own).. and we have a big problem with them jumping on the bed and peeing/pooing all over it ... I have tried everything to keep them from jumping on the bed but they manage to get up...

unfortunately i don't have any teens here to watch them.. i'll probably look into doggy day care if need be...

Definitely look into doggie day care or another option is to have a petsitter come by mid-day and let them outside and play with them for awhile.

Wow! I definitely wouldn't want to be in your position especially since two of your dogs have mated twice in the last few days. Only seems like things will become even more complicated!

I'm so glad to work like I do. I'm usually only gone for a few hours at a time and it is sporadic. I'll be off for the next few weeks while we're inbetween summer sports and the start up of football/volleyball/soccer followed by working 4 or 5 nights a week/weekend.

Good luck!!

I will look into doggie day care, or a pet sitter. Good luck.

Default Get two x-pens and rubber flooring

I have two, and I use to leave them in two attached x-pens to make one really big one with rubber square flooring (like that used for kids) and I'd keep their litter box and food with some toys. This prevented them from making messes on the carpet.

Don't worry about them being alone b/c they have each other. I work for 11 hours outside of the house and they are fine. They now have free roam of the main level since their potty training is going good. They are 11 months old.

Potty on the bed? That makes me feel a lot better because all I deal with is chewing on furniture, which makes my hubby so mad, especially his beloved antiques. I would suggest a doggie daycare. There is one in my town that I considered just to give me a break at times, mine are pretty demanding and I get tired. This place I could stay in, has a bone shaped swimming pool, a huge dogwalk area, even has birthday parties with all the trimmings and onsite bakery, vet on the premises, overnight stay, etc. What a great place. On a realistic note, did you say you still lived at home? Could someone there help you out by letting the dogs out and/or playing with them? If there's no other way, then you can build them their own area using the wire shelving material and make it large enough for play and potty. Then, you just have the pad or paper cleanup.

i'll probably have to look in to a doggy daycare for sure because there is absolutely no one that can take them out to pee/poo .. well they are wee-wee pad trained..

i would build something for them if i could, but right now i still live with my parents.. and i only have 1 big room for me and the kiddies..

my situation is a bit hard but do-able.. no one would really understand..

thanks everyone for the advice.. i will be seeking a doggy daycare.

Default Stop their chewing

Jwash - OT but purchase a cheap, clear, antiperspirant stick deodorant and rub heavily on all the wood the pups can reach and chew. Stopped my dogs dead in their tracks, have not touched the wood furniture since and I have passed this along (so it on Good dog you, on Animal Planet) and has worked for almost everyone that has tried this.

Sorry i have no suggestions for the dog sitting but this is what I use as a bed lifter, Tiny can get down but cant get up I'm 5'7 and this brings my bed to the top of my waist. Here is the link if you want to give it a try
Bed Lift Blocks Their easy to use and may keep your furbabies off your bed and solve your doggie bed soiling dilemma. Good luck with finding a sitter and congratulations on your job = )

Secret

Well, this might not work for you, but my boyfriend and I work different shifts.
I am a Admin. Asst. so I have to work days, but he is a Mold Maker and he works midnights.
It works out perfect for us because he is home during the day while I am at work. That way he's home when I get home and then he leaves for work when I go to bed. He's home on the weekends too, so we do get evenings and weekends together which is nice. It works for us.

Hope you find a solution for those babies! Good luck!
