Greenies?? I'm a new yorkie mom so I'm not familar with "greenies" will someone explain to me what they are? |
They are just green chewies usually in the shape of a tooth brush. They are suppose to be really really good for the teeth. My dog is only 3#, so I cut them in half---that is the small ones. If I can't find the small ones, I cut them in thirds. They love them. You can get them at Wal-Mart or I'm sure a vet's office. Pat |
Just got back from the groomers where Higgins had a bath and Pogo had the works. They look sooooooo handsome, my boys. While we were there we bought a new supply of Greenies and some Royal Canin. They really love the Greenies and the groomer commented on how clean and nice Higgin's teeth were......so the Greenies WORK! I'll keep using them even though they are pricey, because Higgins will NOT stand for having his teeth brushed........ |
Glad to hear they work! One wonders when they buy these things if it is worth it. I will continue to give them to her besides brushing her teeth. SAnything to help the tarter! Pat |
The other thing that is really great about the greenies is that they keep Hercules occupied for a while. I too break them in half, and half of one will keep his attention for 1/2 hour to an hour. It's nice to have something to keep him busy instead of having to put him in the kennel when I need to get something done or what not. |
i want to try some, but they are soooooooo expensive, ........ do they selll them individualy? |
I get them at Petco. They are called something else besides greenies, but they are the same thing. They cost about 0.75 each. You might want to check them out. Cyndie and Trevor |
cool. thanks ill have to look into that......... 75 cents is much more affordable than $14 for 10 or so |
Wal-Mart sells them individually. They are bigger, but all you need do is cut them with a serated knife into smaller sizes. And they do keep them occupied for quite a little while! Pat |
Greenies I just tried those greenies for my 2 gurls, and they loved them. It kept them busy for about 1/2 hour, and they ate the whole thing! I gave them one a day now, for a few days. Is that okay? Or is it too much? Or can I give them more than that, since they love them? Money is not an object when it comes to my gurls. LOL! Thanks for all of the greenie help, guys. :p |
I'm not sure how much one should give them either. My dog weighs 3#, so i break the little ones in half. The big ones in thirds. I remember the Vet telling me when i give treats that a teaspoon full is a lot on a little dog. That especially during the first year, they needed to take most of their calories from the dog food. |
PetSmart aslo sells greenies that are "lose" in a bag that you can give them also. |
I've heard they help breath too ... is this true? |
Check ebay for good deals on greenies; we got a bag of 48 for about $16 + shipping!! I just read the back of the label and it suggests feeding 1-2 greenies a day as a treat. Ranger only gets 1-2 a week so they are more like his "special" treats :p. It is true that Greenies help freshen breath; they contain chlorophyll (hence the greenie) which is the breath freshener. |
I JUST tried one of these things with toby and it is like CAT NIP FOR DOGS!!!!..... he goes FRANTIC if the greenie leaves his SIGHT!! Too bad they are a little expensive, but i did find individual packaged ones at petco for 99 cents :p thanks to those of you that suggested these, i didnt actually believe they were all what you said until i gave one to toby! :) |
i looked in walmart and the pet store but neither one have them. probably b/c it such a small town and i live about 2 hours away from the nearest petco. i went to petco.com and found them and the were on sale, $11 for a pack of 12 and $18 for a pack of 24. i think i'm going to order some over the internet since they sound like the really work and i need something to distract nala in the mornings while i'm getting ready for work. |
ive also heard of people ordering them really cheap on ebay |
actually ive just done a price comaprison on e-bay versus getting the greenies online through petsmart.... and unless you want to buy 560 greenie bones for 100 something dollars, then they are about the same.... except there is a chance you could get screwd on the ebay ...... |
1 a day? Wow, it takes Cecilia like a week to go thru 1. She really likes it, but she hauls it onto my bed and chews on it and it makes a mess on my bed, so I don't love her to have them that often. I wish I had had one today though. She was going nuts, she wanted to play fetch all day long and would get so mad if I stopped. Now she is completely wiped out, which is good because so am I. |
Toby is hiding his greenie behind the couch where even HE cant get to it  ...... i could easily see him going through one a day... he went through 2/3 of it in only an hour!!! |
My Dog Quincy Loves Greenies Too.they Are Expensive, but I Feel My Dog Is Worth It And They Did Help His Bad Breath Alot!! |
As I said before, I cut the petites in thirds. On the package, it says for dogs over 6 months and over 10 pounds. They recommend the little chips for the tinies. I can't see where they would help that much with the tartar, as they are very small chips. Mine does good with the ones cut in thirds and she is 3#. |
can anyone post the pic of the greenies? living in Indonesia, I never see a pet store that carries it :( and can I find it in petco? |
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...tchen&n=507846 you can enlarge the picture -- they look like toothbrushes. This is a good price too. I'd do a price comparison though. And be careful with E-bay. I buy and sell on E-bay and only use people that have 100% or a lot of personal sales. And watch the international shipping -- that's sometimes a ripoff. |
Yes, You can get them at Petco! They are really really good for the teeth. I cut the little ones in threes and give her one a day! Pat |
my dogs go crazy over them brownie 20 pds and kaykos like14 and i cut them in half and give half each i buy the big pack of 24 and its 18 dollars |
i was in petco the other day and i saw that they had greenies which are "chips" just like a regular treat would be....they are about the size of a grain of kitty litter and would probably work great for training purposes (but they say only one bone a day...... it would be pretty hard to gage hwo much is too much of the greenie "bits" |
They have some at the Dr. Fosters and Smith website. a pack of 4 petite ones for 2.99 |
I saw them also at Quality Supply here. I can't see how they would help clean plaque off the teeth, though. I think I will stick to cutting mine in threes (the petite ones) Pat |
thats the thing they really do clean there teeth last week brownie teeth had brown stuff on the back ones and today i looked and it was all gonna its well worth the 18 dollars :D |
