What should I get?
 

I know I am going to get another dog but I am undecided on what to get. Should I get a Parti, a biewer, a maltese or another yorkie? My Husband doesnt want me to start looking untill we get back from vacation in October so I am taking this time to save for a puppy. What would you get if you had the choice?

oh i would def. get a Biewer! i am in love with those little guys! or a chocolate yorkie!

It's not the breed that I consider important ..it's the character of the dog you choose to match your present baby?? Good luck with this..cannot wait to hear the outcome!! :)

I know its important to me also. I have yorkies and I am used to their personalities. This will be dog #3 for me and thats my limit so thats why I am so undecided.

After getting my first yorkies...................I am 100% a yorkie person.
So my choice would be another yorkie!:p

A lot of people have Maltese and Yorkies together. They're a great match.

Maltese are very sweet, I used to have one, but had to rehome her...She wouldn't let me out of her sight, and when i would go back in to the bedroom, and left her sight, she would bark(a very high pitched bark), well, hubby works a lot out of our home, and would be on the phone talking to his boss, and this dogs bark was so annoying..:( she was definitely a lap dog), but you also have to remember with them, the nasty tear staining, we tried everything to keep ours white, and never could find anything that really worked..I have a biewer, but, to me, Yorkies are still #1

Do Biewers have tear stains? Also are they prone to the same health problems as yorkies? I really like biewers but dont know very much about thm so I am researching

I dont' think they've been able to do enough research with the biewers yet(imo) to know if they have the same health problems as the yorkies..my guess would be yes..It's hard for me to say right now, as Fritz isn't even 3 yet. He's got a lot of white on his face, and yes, it has the tear staining too, but, not as bad as what the maltese used to have..

Biewer would more more expensive, no? They are gorgeous, but what would the possibility of being able to get one by the time you are ready to purchase?

Not necessarily, you can find some that are actually cheaper than some yorkies..I had a beautiful one I rehomed that I bought for $1000..She was 5 1/2 mos. old, 5 lbs and ears up perfect, but, the thing is she was already trained to go potty outside, and my other ones were all pee pad trained...I tried and tried to get her to use pee pads, but, she just would not train that way...so, you can find beautiful biewers for less than yorkies...

I would probably get a Yorkie. A Maltese would be good if you want a more laid back dog.

Have you considered a shih tzu?? My shih tzu baby is just the sweetest thing and FULL of spunk and personality. She's on the small side at just about 5 lbs. at 2 years old. I will always have a shih tzu..I've just fallen in love with the breed and btw no shedding!!

I have a shih tzu too, she was really sweet, but, now that she's almost 10, she's gotten really grouchy...if she wants to play, that's fine, but, if she's not wanting too, and one of the other dogs comes around, she growls and shows her teeth...

I think you have Plenty of time to figure out and research what you want :)
I am sure the dog What ever breed will pick you;) thats how it happened with us.

I'm biased because I have a maltese and a yorkie, but I think ANY of those breeds would be perfect!!!:)

Well, I love the standard Yorkies, but I also love Maltese and plan to have one of those one day too. There are ways to keep your maltese tear-stain free...it's important to buy from a breeder whose lines aren't prone to staining much & then of course cleaning, staying away from dyes & minerals, and even using an antibiotic occasionally can keep the stains away. I've seen many Maltese that have no stains at all so it's definitely possible.

Biewers are so pretty but their personality (as I understand) is quite bit like Yorkies are. So, if you want a bit of a different personality, you may want to go with a different breed.

I have Yorkies and a Maltese. I have to say the Maltese is wonderful. She has been much easier to potty train than my Yorkies and seems more loving somehow. Not to say I don't love my Yorkies to death.:D They are wonderful. The tear stains can be reduced quite a bit with different methods on the Maltese.

I love all the breeds you mentioned.:) I don't know anything about the Parti's though.

My Vote goes to the Maltese, being an owner of a beautiful male maltese, I can tell you that for sure they are easier to potty train than Yorkies, although Tinkerbell is 99.99% potty traine, except when it rains, that is usually when she has an accident:eek: .


My male maltese is sweet and oh so loveable, as far as tear stains, My Chiquito can get them but as soon as I put him on Angels Eyes, it all goes away for a good 6-8 months and then we start with the treatment again:thumbup:

I had to laugh, my maltese was 10 times harder than my yorkies or shih tzu, infact, I ran in to the lady that has her(the dog just turned 5) and she said she still pees wherever she wants..:)

Lots of things can cause tear staining in Maltese, teething, allergies, blocked tear ducts, etc. Good genetics are really important if you want a nice white face.

My Lady is the product of a BYB (she's a rescue) and has a ton of genetic health problems, but one thing she has always had is a nice white face. She had red tear stains when I first adopted her, but she had a yeast infection in both ears and I'm sure was fed grocery store dog food.

Just being white in general does show everything - urine stains, tear stains, food stains. The upkeep is a little more to keep them looking really clean. Their coats are also different than Yorkies and mat much more easily so regular brushing is essential if you want to keep them in a longer coat.

I happen to love the Maltese personality. Most other breeds of dogs were bred to do something, herd sheep, kill rodents, etc., but Maltese were simply bred to be companions to aristocrats. They've never worked a day in their life and don't intend to. :D

They were actually used to warm their owners in drafty old houses. Women would tuck them in their sleeves or under their skirts to warm their feet!

They just exist to be your little lap warmer. :D

The Biewers IMHO are quieter, gentler, and more loving than than a Yorkie; but I have Teapot Dayzee who has been known to be highly reactive to compare too. LOL

I had 2 yorkies before getting Livvi, and I am sooo glad I did! She is soooo different than my yorkies! So glad my 3rd was a Biewer!!!!!;)
