Chewys results came back perfect...everything from thyroid to sugar to cholesterol was all within the normal range. I have started giving her some fish oil even though she hates it and shakes her head while eating. The vet said it may be dry skin??? I noticed this week that she is not only shedding but bitting her skin out as well. the nurse said this could be stress related. Ive been trying to give her some extra attention and treats this week because i know shes been under a lot of stress. i want to go ahead and get some missing link...do you guys think that it will be ok if i give her ML and about half a portion of the fish oil every day?? She really isnt liking the fish oil and i know ML has the omega 3 and 6 in it as well. thank you guys for the kind words and prayers! |
another cause Another cause could be allergies or fleas but I'm sure the vet would have checked for fleas. Are you feeding a good quality food?? If not maybe try a food designed for allergies |
Shes been eating Canidae for almost a year now and has done great on it so I dont think its allergies. Ive been giving her all the same treats as well. I am pretty convinced that it is a combination of stress and dry skin from the freezing temperature we've had. Any thoughts about mixing the missing link in with the fish oil?? |

That's why those of use with allergic dogs have to stick to single source protein and rotate through foods regularly to avoid developing sensitivities. Lady had a terrible problem with food allergies a few years ago. She had chewed bald spots on her front legs and flanks. I switched her to Natures Variety Prairie. I avoided the common proteins like lamb, chicken and beef because she had developed allergies to them and and rotate through their foods as they suggest. It's been a year and a half and unfortunately she's starting to chew again so I am on the hunt for new ingredients now. This is a great explanation of pet allergies and how to treat them: http://www.fda.gov/fdac/features/2004/404_pets.html |
Thanks for the info... i'm not sure how i would figure out whether she is allergic to anything. She eats the Canidae but along with that she eats what I eat. Diferent meats, soup, veggies, cereal. Maybe I should try switching the food to a less common protein...but im so scared with all the recalls recently... Canidae has not been on any of the lists. Im not sure what other crands are safe? |

Scroll down about halfway and you'll see it, although you really should read the whole article to understand about pet allergies. |
Oh i read it, but it would be really hard for me to figure it out. I hate to admit it but my monkey is completely spoiled beyond the point of return. She refuses to eat her doggy food for breakfast unless there is some cereal on top of it... etc. The Natures Variety diet where you rotate foods sounds very interesting though. I have emailed them to see if they have samples. Im not sure what flavors I would try...she has eaten the chicken, beef and fish...because thats what I eat lol but i dont know about the rabbit and venison, etc. I hope they have some samples but I think Ill go buy a bag this week because I have about half a bag of canidae left and i might as well start mixing a new food in. thanks for the advice! |
Oh I hope Chewy feels better soon. Maybe it is stress. It is so hard to diagnose our babies because they cant talk... Why didn't God make my babies talk?... probably because I would never speak to my hubby if they could. Ha ha Hugs from Chloe and Zoey |
My personal opinion is that it is the stress... even if she is trying to adjust im sure she still feels that im stressed out and that likely affects her. It coulndt hurt to change her food though.... i didnt know that eating it too long can cause allergies. |
