I am happy to know she is not the only one with weird quarks, I am definitely going to quit taking it out of the bowl for her. |
they are such funny lil' guys, aren't they?! ours have to go into the kitchen, grab a mouthful, then eat it on our bed :p gotta love that they wanna be with you all the time ;) |
Its not just a Yorkie thing... Both Bella (poodle mix) and Harley (Yorkie) do it! Bella takes a mouth full and runs into my mom's bed to eat. Whats so funny is that when my sister and I were younger, we used to sneak snacks into my mom's bed and watch tv. She was ALWAYS yelling at us not to eat her bed... and now she has to battle the dog!! lol |
Toby does this. He will take out a little bit at a time out of the bowl and put it on the floor, eat it and then do it again till his food is gone. He also will balance on three legs while eating...its so odd. He will left one leg up while eating, always a different leg too. Only once in a while though he will only eat if I hand feed him out of the bowl, however, this only happens once in a while. And I will only give in if he hasn't eaten all day. I put out his breakfast and lunch some days and he won't eat because he's too busy playing or doesn't feel like it, then for dinner if he doesn't eat on his own, I will hand feed him. |
I have a Bichon that carries his kibble into the living room from the kitchen one mouthful at a time, drops it on the carpet and eats it one kibble at a time. I've had several dogs that would do that. It's just a doggie thing! |

Lucky and Lexie at times will take the mouthfull of food from their dish and carry it somewhere else to eat it. They do it for a mouthful or two, then finish at the dish. But....is this normal?........... When Lexie had her puppies, I fed her a mixture of dry and canned food or alternated between the two types. I noticed during this time that every now and then she would use her nose and push at the food until is was mostly all in one spot in the dish and pretty much pressed against the side or bottom of the bowl, then she'd usually leave it for a while. To me,this looked like it made it more difficult for her to get a good bite of, so I'd usually stir it up again to loosen it up. For the life of me, I could not figure out WHY she did that. She never did it til after she had her puppies and except for once or twice, I haven't seen her do it again since she finished nursing them. So, hmmmm.....is this normal, or a weird quirk of hers? |

From what i've read it is instinctive for them to do this. They are bringing there food away to "hide" and eat it so that it doesn't get taken away. The way they would if they were living in a pack |
If Preston is eating by himself he will knock the bowl over, and actually sometimes just pick it up in his mouth and dump it, and eat from the floor. If Bailey and Jefe are eating in the same room, he leaves his food in his bowl. I assume it is because by himself he feels he can scatter it out and be more selective about which pieces he eats, while with the other two there, he is afraid they will take it? |
Sounds like training the humans again to do what they want us to.....ha ha |
