| What does a reverse sneeze sound like? I have read about Yorkies making a noise called a reverse sneeze. I have wondered what that sounds like ever since I read about it. This morning Otis and I was playing in the living room and he started making a funny sound in his throat, I thought about what I had read on the computer about the reverse sneezing and that is what it sounded like, I guess. (to me that is what I would think it would sound like, anyway) My question is has anyone else ever heard your Yorkies do this? I read that it is nothing to worry about that when it happens they usually are excited, playing or something like that and to try and calm them down or gently rub the throat. Has anyone heard that it is not serious, or do you think I need to call a vet? Please, help? I am stumped on this matter. I wish I knew what reverse sneezing actually sounded like.....

My Bassett does the reverse sneeze thing all the time. She started doing it right after we got her (we got her from the Humane Society). I took her to the vet, and he told me that is what it was anyway. Apparently Bassetts are bad about doing it becuase they sniff constantly. To me it actually almost sounds like they are having a hard time catching their breath. Hers usually come in a succession of like three or four, so it really scared me at first.

what they're doing is breathing out of their nose and not their mouth, you need to get them to open their mouth and breathe..it scares Haley, she comes over to me to pick her up, I sit and talk to her, and rub her throat and try to get her mouth open, she actually does it almost everyday, sometimes a few times during the day

could be that KaCee has a bit of a cold, or allergies. Could just be change in weather. If you see her doing it more, and it doesn't seem to get better you could take her in to the vet to have it checked. With Bailey the vet told me it would happen more in the spring, when she was sniffing too much pollen up her nose, and the winter, when all the dead grass would be going up her nose. It is apparently very common with Bassetts. The vet was right though, it does tend to happen more at those times.

Yep...sounds like a goose with a wheezing cold. I hate it when my Daphne does that. It seems to come on more after she is drinking water or when she is really excited.
