I'm so nervous! Lilly is 6 month old (January 8th) and weighs I'd say 5 or 6 lbs. Lilly has lots (or I believe she does) of baby teeth left. I'm not really sure or sure how to tell.

So, another question... should I set up an appointment to have blood work and the bile acid test done and also have the vet see how many baby teeth she has left then go from there? I'm sorry if I sound ignorant with my questions, I just really have no idea about any of this stuff.:rolleyes:

When my lily went in she was 3lb exactly. I though she had a ton of baby teeth to, but it was only 5. In her little mouth it looked like 20 I was nervous as well. I am sure as long as you have a good vet she will be fine. My vet ran all lilys test the day she went in, I had to take her in at 8am her surgery was at 2pm and i did not get to pick her up until 12 the next day. Some vets can not do tests the same day so I would call your vet and ask. Also make sure the vet intubates not the vet tech, and make sure they use isoflurane or sevoflurane for anesticia. Lilys micro chip was 35$ and then you have to send in this info sheet and 12$ to reg the chip.

What is intubate? Do I just ask them who will be intubating and that I want the vet to do it not a vet tech? Thanks for all the help with my never ending questions!

If you are SURE you want to know then read on.

Intubate just means that they put a tube in your dog's throat. It keeps the airway open and any vomit out of the lungs.

Bile acid tests have to be done several days before surgery because they should send the blood out. I prefer to do the CBC and blood panel as close as possible to the surgery (hopefully that morning).

What's the CBC? The intubate thing is scary. Is there anything else I need to know, you seem to know a lot about this stuff.

CBC is a complete blood count, it measures number of red and white blood cells,total amount of hemoglobin,fraction of blood composed of red blood cells and also the size of the blood cells. The reason for this test is that it can detect numerous diseases, dehydration, infection, allergies and blood clotting problems. Hope this helps.
