Boring yorkie
 

so my boyfriend got me a yorkie for xmas:) when he was 12 weeks old. it's been almost month and still hes not active:( . i want him to play around or explore the house at least. all he does is sit at the corner somewhere. he will play sometimes but lazily like he wouldnt move out of the spot that hes in and i'd have to go over to him. i tried to take him out for walks but it seems that he doesnt like me taking control. all he does is cry, if i leave the room with him still in there he'll try to follow but stop after like 3 steps and cries. so then i'd have to over to carry him out of the room. what should i do?:confused:

Please, get that baby to a vet! This is not normal puppy behavior and I am concerned for his health.

I agree I dont think he is a boring yorkie he could be sick! :(

Do you know anything about where he was purchased? Have you called the breeder. And a 12 wk old puppy isn't going to go out for a walk. But you shoul be able to call him and he follow you around the rooms and explore and play ball. They do get tired out and after playing for like 15 mins hard they need to get there rest due to the fragile bodies they have. Have you had this dog to the vet since you got him? Does he eat good?

I agree with others, defenately get your baby to the vet.

I'm no expert, but they are right, that does not sound normal.

I agree with taking him to the vets asap.
My second thought is that the puppy is actually younger then he was told to be.

Also mine did not like going for walks until they were almost a year old.
Make sure when you do take your puppy outside you use a harness not a collar so you do not hurt their trachea.

I agree!! VETS ASAP!!! living with 3 Yorkies,, boring is not their nature. They can sleep like logs when pooped out,, but they are bundles of energy and personality!! Hope all goes well for you both!

Please take him to a vet. I got mine at 12 weeks, took her on holiday two days later, she played on the beach, played with toys and people. There is something wrong with this poor baby!

Oh my gosh... I hope that baby is ok! It sounds like there is something really wrong. I have a 13 week old puppy and it would kill me if this were happening to her! Please write back and let us know!

I would think something is wrong too:( .. Mi'Leigh is 12 weeks old and oh my god she wants to be under my feet 24/7!! she can be sound asleep if i get up she is going to be behind me:cool: .. I even have to walk really slow sometimes dew to havein someone hangin on to my pant leg with there teeth:rolleyes: .. She was like the from the time i got her:rolleyes: ...

He may just be a more laid back yorkie. My Jewels wasnt rambuncious and just wanted to be held all the time when she was a pup

I agree i would get that baby to a vet asap when Bella was 8 weeks old she played like crazy and followed me everywhere and Max who is 12 1/2 weeks and he plays plays plays and follows me ev erywhere i go he will not let me leave his site it is so cute but i would def to the vet

I totally agree with what most of the previous posters have said, sounds like your baby may be sick, take him to the vet. Have you contacted the breeder? I sure would. When we got Maggy may, she was only 6 weeks old and very sick, but now at 9 weeks old, she's a bouncing bundle of joy and wants to play, play, play. If a 9 week old plays like that, you'd think a 12 week old would be even more active. Please let us know what you find out.

I got my first yorkie right before 7 weeks, and she played quite a lot, as does the last one I got at 11 weeks...she's been on the go ever since

I'd be terrified!!! Get that poor baby puppy to the vet, he could have something intestinally going on... or else he could have been abused!!! Find out where your boyfriend got this puppy! It is a very sweet thing for you boyfriend to buy you a Yorkie, because they make great companions, but only if you know something about buying them... You have to do a lot of research, and you should always make sure that the sire and dam (or Fur Mommy & Daddy, I hate calling them Sire & Dam :( sounds cold) are on the premises so that you can view them and check the other dogs the breeder has to make sure they all look healthy and well taken care of...
I visited my breeder 4 times before I took my baby home... I loved her from the moment I saw her, but I wanted to make sure she was treated right, and of course I saw her fur Mommy & Daddy...
Plus, anytime you get a dog, you should get a guarantee, and a paper from the vet that says they have a clean bill of health and up to date on shots, THEN you should also take the dog to your vet & make sure the dog is still healthy... cause you never know...
Anyways, I hope everything works out for you, and I am sure that if you figure it out that eventually your baby will be a bouncing baby boy!

My little male was very quiet for a long time. He was 1.8 lbs at 11 weeks. I don't know if that had anything to do with it or not. He's a year and a half and 2 and 3/4 lbs now but still not as active as my female. He's just a quiet boy. He does race around after Lucy several times a day but would rather be in my lap than anywhere. I've had very active dogs and very quiet dogs and I'd rather a quiet one! They don't get into nearly as much as the hyper ones. I'm sure you've already had him to the vet but if not you might want to have him checked out just to make sure. Congratulations on your new baby.

If he vet checks clear, he could already have you trained! (They are SO good at that!!!!)

You say he sits and cries when you leave, and then you go pick him up, which could mean that he knows if he stays put and cries, you will just come get him. I got little Ranger at 12 weeks, and he was naturally a timid boy. He prefered to sit in his little crate, and didn't always want to come out, however, he would make a FUSS when I would leave.

I put him on a leash and attached it to me for a week, and he learned to follow me. Now I can't go ANYWHERE without him. When he goes to see a vet and gets the "all clear" you might want to consider a puppy school class so you both can bond. Good luck, and please keep us updated.

I have to agree with everyone else here, that baby needs to see a vet. My friends first Yorkie acted just like you are describing yours as acting, and not to scare you, but come to find out she had Parvo and they came EXTREMELY close to losing her - more than once. She was 12 weeks old and had a very rough life for a while...it was very, very sad.

Please get that baby to a vet ASAP!

I hope you come back with good news. But surely you must realize you have to take your sweetie to the vet. Could be just a laid back puppy, but you need to be sure! Please let us know.

As a puppy, Kayah was very active. Now, after two years, not so much.. but it's due to her being spoiled and her liking of my bf's dad's lap:rolleyes: .. But she is STILL somewhat active..

I just don't like the fact that you said he takes a few steps, stops, and cries.. BIG RED FLAG!!

When I got my little boy, he slept a lot and I thought, this is so easy. Ummm, no! He had coccidia and was very, very ill. I could have lost him.

This does not seem normal.. take the advice and see the vet soonest..

Maybe he needs a sibling to comfort him..

Welcome to yt so glad you find us. With all my girls the first thing I did is taken to the vet, as part of their health contract.Do you have one? just in case that is somenthing wrong with the puppy, I sure hope NOT and he is ok:( if your puppy pass with a clean bill from the vet, he probably missing his mommy or/ and playmates, just give him time:aimeeyork :thumbup:
