Smaller isn't better!!!! I was walking outdoor mall this weekend. Most of the time, people are amazed how small Momiji is so I just have to let people know that she is not a normal size yorkie. Anyhow, I was walking and this one girl said "Oh my gosh, I just saw this huge yorkie (she is talking about my Momiji!)." (she is on her cell phone with her friend) And then ask me "How much does she weight?" So I told her " about 3lb." then she said "yeah she is big. Mine is 1lb." :eek: She said it like she was so proud her yorkie was smaller. :( I didn't get to ask her if her yorkie was puppy or full grown. I truly hope she has a puppy, not full grown..... I love taking Momiji to the world to see but sometime people start think ALL yorkie should be her size and that is not what I want them to think. It isn't the size it matter, it is their spunky personality and love they shown to us every day....... Hope some day people realize that.... |
I have never seen a full grown Yorkie that weighs a mere 1 pound. I think she is probably exaggerating. She would have thought Kalina was horse I guess, since she weighs in at nearly SIX POUNDS!! OMG!! :eek: |
:yeahthat: you made a very good point, some poor little guys look so sick and weak. |
I agree she probably was just trying to show off. One of the breeders we met when looking for Archie and Willie did have an adult Yorkie that weighed only a bit over one pound. She said he was definitely the runt and since she didn't really expect him to thrive, she didn't dock his tail. She said she would never let him go especially since she still had to make him eat every 3 hours or so. He was so tiny but had as much energy as the puppies. I would never want one that small. |
:scratchhe :2omg: :lol tears |
Its the Hype as lots of ads anymore say teacup or people ask you about if that is a Teacup.....I always tell them there isn't such a thing. |
You are exactly right, smaller isn't better. It's a better chance of heartbreak. Bruiser is now 13 lbs and he is my solid tank. He never gets ill and is just about indestructible. Marcus is now barley 3 lbs and we've almost lost him several times due to his size and being sick. He is healthy now, but it was a long and hard uphill battle. Marcus was with me the other day while we were having my car worked on. We were in the waiting lounge and an employee came up and started talking about yorkies. He was like, "Well you know yorkies come in three sizes: 2lbs, 6lbs, and 12 lbs. Your's looks overweight for his size. Mine at home is 1.5 lbs and I think he's still too big". I just nodded and smiled and gave him the look like "you're an idiot". He then asked me if I had any suggestions to help his yorkie lose weight. I replied "If you want him to be less than 1.5 pounds, why don't you just get guinea pig next time?" I'm normally not rude, but I just hated the way he was talking about his poor tiny baby. Needless to say, he walked off and that was the end of the conversation. I don't think people will learn what's normal until celebrities and people in the spotlight stop using their precious pups as accessories.:( |
:angry::thumbs up:hug: |
Having just got Dixie who is 2 lbs at 6 1/2 months and who is a very sick puppy who will only get sicker, I don't think I can get a tiny again. The specilaist told me that runts usually means health issues so I will never take the smallest one in the litter again. I know many tinies are healthy but everything is so much harder on them when they get sick. JMO |
I agree. Pikko is just around 4 lbs and my family always finds it scary when he gets underfoot 'cause we don't see him very well and trip over him. If he gets to be around 6 - 7lbs full grown, that will be just the perfect size. |
I've never had anyone tell me Bella was big, thats crazy. Bella is 3.2lbs right now and very petite so she looks tiny along with not weighing alot. I did not set out to get a tiny one but she ended up landing in that category whether I like it or not. I get the comments about her being little and a "teacup" but I can't imagine what my reaction would be if someone said some of the stuff you all have heard to me. Crazy stupid people out there aren't there. |
The smallest yorkie I have ever heard about that is full grown is 1lb 12oz. Teddi is 2lbs 14oz and I can't imagine having one smaller. I have never heard of a 3lb yorkie being HUGE?!?! That's just weird! |
what a silly silly girl....:rolleyes: I'm just WILLING Pixie to reach 3lbs...2lbs 11oz...almost there! lol:D |
one pound my foot. she probably had a puppy... ive taken my little one out a few times since i got her and i cant tell you the amount of times i heard the word "teacup." "is she a teacup" "omg i totally want a teacup" etc. i dont say anything. you gotta pick your battles |
