Yorkies in your bed My cat sleeps with us and I wouldn't mind one bit if Guinness did the same (although Mercy would feel differently I'm sure) but after reading some stories here about how fragile they are, I'm sooo nervous he'll fall off the bed! Plus he's soooo exciteable, he won't settle down for nothing. I have to set him in the kitchen with the gate for him to relax and rest. He is like the Energizer bunny for real! How did you end up doing the bedtime thing? |
We got to bed and watch TV and I have Hot Tea to relax. They will play in bed for awhile and then, I say lay down by mommy and got nightie Night and they lay down on there own blankets and curl up next to me. |
morgan sleeps in her house in her ex-pen. I do not want her sleeping in bed with me because i think i'll roll over her and kill her. she's too small at 4.5lbs and get lost in the pillow mattress and comforter. i feel its much safer for her to sleep in her own bed. |

But I think I'm going to get him his own bed and bring it upstairs, Mercy is on the bed, so at least he could stay IN the room with us. I am still working on potty training though. |
Lacy is 7lbs and sleeps with me, and I'm taking care of my parent's 6lb yorkie who sleeps with me. I have always wondered about those that have tiny yorkies..like 4 (or maybe 5)lbs and under. |
Well when my pit mix was a puppy she was VERY sickly. She was only a little over a pound when I brought her home from the shelter. I was soo scared to leave her in the pen at night, that I had her sleep right next to my face so I would know if she had trouble breathing. My roommate were always scared I was going to roll over and squash her, but instintively I knew she was there and would wake up if she moved. The plans were to have her sleep in her bed later on... but 4 yrs later and she still sleeps with me. So when Slade came I trained him to sleep in his crate. I tried to let him sleep in the bed a few nights, but all he and Laney would do was play, so he sleeps in his crate. |
I was so undecided on whether it would be good to have Piper tuck in with me or not that I would fall asleep on the sofa with her and then sometime in the wee morning hours, would tuck her into her bed in her crate (which is right next to my bed). I loved snuggling up with her, but was raised in a household where dogs were not allowed on beds and I wasn't comfortable with the idea of puppy feet stepping all over the nice clean sheets! I got pneumonia a month ago and was too tired to go through that routine any longer and finally just tucked her in with me. I do think there is an instinct not to roll over on to them..or they are quick to get out of the way. One or the other. We're both very happy with this new arrangement..although it is very funny to wake up to a Yorkie standing on my chest looking into my eyes! Makes me smile every time. And I NEVER oversleep! |
I sleep in my bed, my 4 dogs sleep in their beds, works out best for all of us..I tried letting a couple of them sleep with me once, and I didn't sleep as good(worrying about rolling over on them, plus they wanted up right next to me), hubby and I like our space and our privacy...;) |
Both Lucky and Lexie sleep with hubby and I; have from almost day one. :dogzzz: But for the life of me I can't remember how when they were younger, we got them to stay still so they didn't jump or fall off the bed. All I know is that we were suckers for a crying puppy and that's how they ended up sleeping with us. We have little Toby now too & at 2.2 lbs, there is no way I could get any sleep with him in with us for fear of him falling or being squished or suffocated. But lo and behold, there is no need cuz he goes into his crate and not a peep out of him til morning when he hears us waking. WOW:p When we have had Toby (or one of Lexie's puppies) up in bed with us for just a while, they were so full of energy and on the move, hubby and I wondered, "How did we ever start it with Lucky & Lexie when they were small?" Like I said, we can't remember, but we did. Sometimes I think I'd like to get Lucky and Lexie in a bed of their own:rolleyes: .....don't know if that'll ever happen though. |
I have 4 dogs in bed with me. 5lbs, 4 ls, 2 lbs and 10 lbs. The 10 lb pom always lays at the head of the bed on the other side. Pixie and Dixie sleep usually on one of the two snuggle sacks on the other side of the bed and Calii sleeps either in the area in my headboard or by my feet. I have a ramp by the side of my bed that all but the pom use to get up and down. Maya won't use it but lets me know when she wants to get down. |
I have 16 pound yorkie and 33 pound cocker spaniel and a few cats in bed with me every night along with my husband. |
Well here is another way to start with the little ones. Zoie was like 2lbs and at home I played with her in bed but tried one of the soft canvus type crates and would zip her in at night. She had soft bedding in there with a toy and her blanket and she could see me through the netting for windows. I layed her right in bed with me. Now of course if you kick while your are asleep that might not work for you. But because she was small she started that way and beside you are up about every 2 or 2 1/2 hrs to go to potty so you don't get much sleep till they can hold it longer. Not like you would have time to get in a deep sleep. Then she graduated to laying in a ball by my arm after playing at night. She wakes you up by licking you in the face and lets you know its time to get up and go potty and have breakfast. She is an early riser. I wouldn't trade that for the world. |
Some nights I don't sleep well and let me tell you she was alot of company and therapy for my health. |
my two both sleep with me, I was afraid to let Gino sleep with me at first because he is SO little and I was afraid I would roll on him or something. But he does great! He LOVES to be swaddled in one of his lil blankets and he lays right close to me, practically in my skin, if he could. Its adorable! |
I had him with me and hubby the first maybe four or five nights, but he prefered a smaller place. I sell Avon and had a box up there, put some soft receiving blankets inside and he went right down. Before that it seemed he couldn't find the right spot. I wish he was more of snuggler, ah well thanks for sharing |
Both of my girls sleep with me. They both started as little pups. They are very quick to get out of the way if they feel you will roll on them. One sleeps next to me with her head on my pillow and one on the other side on her own pillow until she gets cold, and then she snuggles down under the covers next to my back. I love them there with me. They quickly get in a routine of potty outside, play on the bed, chew their bully sticks for awhile to relax, and to sleep. They are usually asleep before me. Good luck:p |
Since the day I brought Cody James home.... we slept in my mom's bed she has a california king.. and i have a twin. mine of course wasn't big enough for the both of us so we just used mom's bed LOL. and he gotten use to it. he would sleep right up againt my back. or most of the time right between me and my mom and we both still had plenty of room to move without touching him! well NOW. when my mom isn't home he won't sleep in bed w/out his NANA. so we sleep on the couch the days she is away. and let me tell ya.. its not comfy |
Mi has been sleepin in the bed with use sence the day we brough her home.. She sleeps behind our head on inside of our head bord on her own pillow.. When we go lay down she gets to play for 15min then she knows when lights are out its time to lay down... But she gets her moments when she wants to play when its sleepy time |

Mine sleep in their area, as I am afraid to have them sleep on my bed. Callie is fearless and will jump from anything, and Turbo likes to root around on things, so I am afraid they will be hurt just doing what they do. Also, my hubby is afraid of them having an accident on the bed. :( |
Sophie sleeps with us every night. She weighs about 7 1/2 pounds though. At first I was a little worried too, but she seems to handle it well. She seems to take up more room than we thought she would. She has slept with us for about four or more years. She is six now. I can't imagine not having her with us. |
Gypsy sleeps with us and she is 4.4 lbs. When hubby starts to turn over he instinctively reaches out to her to see where she is. They play a little before bed time, wrestling then she goes off down the ramp to explore a little on her own while I usu read. When I call her or turn the lights out she comes and lays down usu snuggling under the cover next to me or Jim. LOL Last night we set up till midnight, 2 hrs past usu bed time. No play for her she went right to laying down and went to sleep. She has a def bedtime. |
Yep, we've got Yorkies in our bed too :D I didn't do this when they were puppies though because I was so scared that either my hubby or I would roll over and crush them because they were so tiny. And yes, I was scared of them also falling off the bed back then. So when they were babies, they slept in their crate with lots of fluffy blankets to keep them warm and a few toys in there as well. My Stedman will sometimes jump off the bed in the middle of the night to chase the cat  but Tatum is too scared of heigths and she wouldn't dare. Our problem isn't so much that we are worried about them falling off the bed, it is just trying to BREATH because they always smother us :p |
BEFORE we had kids...lol mine slept with us.. NOW they want NO PART in the bed. Hmm neither do I:D |
hehe chip sleeps in a draw next to our bed, that way if he needs the toilet he just jumps up and licks neils face or paws at his arm :) sometimes in the morning he comes and sleeps on the bed with which other one of us is still sleeping :D |
Gracie fell off the bed once when she was a puppy. After that, she learned her lesson. She was not hurt. We have pet steps for her to get on and off the bed. She sleeps right at my side, alternating between under the covers and on top all night. So sweet! Holly is still little so she sleeps in a small crate on my bed. |
Daisy, yorkichi and Sam, the boxer, sleep with us unless the kids are home from college - then the kids sleep with their doggies... Daisy has jumped off the bed a couple of times lately- the bed is rather tall - I'm thinkin' about getting a little step or something. Any suggestions? |
Both of mine sleep with my husband and me, we don't allow them to play at bedtime or to get out of beda bed. The first time it's a warning then, into the crate. Each of them slept in the crate just once then learned to be good. ;) |
My Rocco is just under 5 pounds and he has slept with me since the 3rd night I had him and at that point he was around 2 pounds. I to worried about rolling over on him and didn't sleep well because of it but we have both learned to adjust and he seems to sense my movements before I actually move and he will adjust his position accordingly. My husband works nights so I am typically in that giant bed by myself and Rocco is always such a comfort to have next to me. I can't imagine him not sleeping next to me. |
