Oh yes, we love the washable pads!! I have some from valethics.com and some from Little Bit. I wash mine in Tide w/ Bleach Alternative and put some vinegar in a Downy Ball for the rinse cycle - there is no odor that I can detect:) |
tip about washable pads If any of you live by a nursing home/hospital, if you go to the laundry department, you can ask them for the "rag out" pads. I am in charge in part, of the laundry at our hospital, when pads start breaking down, they have to rag them out so it wont irritate the patients skin. We used to donate them to the animal shelter along with old blankets and such until they just didnt need them anymore. So we trashed them, then one day I went to a yorkie specialty show and we were all talking about pads, What Im I stupid or what? Anyway, I take the ragged out pads now for my own use and supply just about all my friends with yorkies. Just a thought. May save you all some money. L. |

I usually change them daily. How many you get depends on how often you want to do wash and how big your washer is. When washing them you want your washer to be no more than about 85% full. That way there is plenty of room for them to move around and get clean. I have never had an lingering odors in my machine or anything like that. Another thing I do when I put them in the washer is I put them so the soiled side is facing out rather than the waterproof side. That way I figure the water goes out from the pad in the spin cycle rather than stopping at the waterproof barrier. I am not sure if it makes a difference, but that's how I do it. |
We have 2 of Nancy's pads at the moment..Will be getting more...I change my pads out daily...And will fold it into 4 quarter( dirty side in) and keep in the laundry room....It does not smell at all....I wash the pads every other night after the boys are in bed for the night...And will hang them up and they are dry by the next morning...They are great..... I change after every use too. I just don't want pee sitting around at all but I think in all I have to wash about 6 pads by the end of the day. I use bleach as well and I still have the original pee pads I bought in March. |

Try these! I did a lot of research and went back and forth on switching for about a month. We finally made the switch; hubby and I couldn't be more pleased. The disposable pads get soooo expensive (especially for 2 Yorkies). And I also don't like the idea of throwing so much away. I found these pads online and LOVE them!!! PUP Washable Training Underpads I wanted something that hid urine, wouldn't leak, provided more than just a cover, etc. Because they do not leak and absorb the urine so well (without spreading into large puddles), the girls can use a single pad for up to 3 days! We remove the solid waste, of course. When I pick up the pad to wash, there are no stains on the back side, nothing has leaked through, yet the girls' feet do not smell of urine either from walking on the pad. :thumbup: :thumbup: |

I have used wahsable pads for almost a year now. Like WOW! What a savings in pee pads. I use the reclaimed ones from http:www.valethics.com -- they are not very pretty but they are very serviceable and have a terrific rubber leak proof backing. I generally buy the S27 type 32 x 27" but they are out of stock. There are several members who make washable potty pads that are very attractive and will fit in with your decor :) |
:) I bought a dozen at Valethics. I bought material at walmart and covered the pads myself by zigzagging the material to the pad around the edges. I now have many different colors to hide the pee stain. They wash up so nice and will not go back to disposable unless we are travelling. |
I thought about it, but, that's as far as I got..Hubby said YOU'RE NOT putting pee pads in the washer, so, I will stick with my drsfostersmith pads..I love those, and even with 4 of them using them, I only change them out twice a day.. |
