They are Both beautiful breeds!!!:D |
I love the Biewers and think they are absolutely beautiful, and I would take one in a heartbeat (although not now cause we've already got enough babies, LOL!) BUT....if I had to choose between a Biewer and a traditional, standard Yorkie, I'd have to pick the Yorkie :) They are, afterall, my most favorite dog in the world! ;) |

I have 2 Maltese and a Yorkie and my next one will def. be a Biewer. |
I would pick the biewer because they dont go through such a transformation! I just love the coloring of the biewer. Actually i didnt even know what one was until i read this thread... though when i was looking for my second yorkie, a lady was selling a biewer under "yorkie", and i remember thinking, "omg there is no way that dog can be a yorkie because of the white!" --but now thinking back, it must have been a biewer. i am not a fan of any other type of small dog other than a maltese- but only if it is bred with a yorkie. So, i'm glad i found out about the biewer! I suggest having one of both! :) |
How about instead of choosing between the two, you get a Yorkie, but one that is parti colored. :) Tammy |

I couldn't wait to meet a biewer after I learned of their existence (thanks yt). We have friends now who have two biewers (brothers) who are a cute as can be. They look completely different though, one actually has coloring that is more similar to a yorkies. I just think they are all cute. Biewers AND yorkies. |

I personally think Biewers are absolutely adorable too. Last time I tried to find info about them I learned that you have to be careful. There are Biewers (which have the German Heritage) and there are tri-colored Yorkies AND there are some mixed with Maltese in to get a similar look. |
Standard Yorkie |
Who can choose? I have a yorkie girl and am getting a biewer boy. I think they are both absolutely gorgeous. It's like asking me if I would like chocolate or fudge! Um....both please!:) |
3 Attachment(s) I just came across this thread and thought I'd post my Biewer Girl "Honey". Do you see Yorkie, or do you see Maltese? She is PURE BIEWER with lines traced all the way to Fru Fru and Darling von Friedheck (the Yorkies with that piebald gene that started the whole thing) and to their Yorkie sire and dam of Streamglen in England who it is now thought had the gene. Mr. and Mrs. Biewer bought their Yorkies from Streamglen. |
I don't remember ever seeing this thread before. I have to say I'm partial to the standard yorkie - always been my favorite breed of dog, with the maltese being second. I just love that blue and gold look! But I think the Biewers (and parti yorkies) are beautiful as well. No one truly knows if the piebald gene exists in yorkies or not. My personal thoughts are that I think another breed, such as a shihtzu, is back in the lines somewhere that caused the parti gene. That's just my thoughs...I've seen many people that believe this, and I've seen many people that believe yorkies do naturally have a pie-bald gene. I've yet to see any conclusive research done from an unbiased source. I'd LOVE for someone to figure this issue out. It would solve many issues with the Parti yorkie breeders here in the US. What I like about the Biewers is that they are their own breed with their own goals and standard. They don't claim to be a Yorkshire Terrier. They are a Biewer. I find it very exciting that they were just accepted into the ARBA - and DNA testing concluded that a Biewer is genetically different than a Yorkshire Terrier. They'll probably be accepted into the AKC as their own breed eventually. The more I've looked at Biewers, the more I have grown to like them. I'm kindof picky about coat patterns...I'd have to find a puppy that I was just crazy about (I like the ones with a lot of gold on the face). I might eventually get a Biewer. They're beautiful and would compliment my yorkie and maltese family (that I'll have one day). |

I think both breeds are beautiful! I love having my Yorkie Jeter but I would not mind getting a Biewer some day too. |
It's very confusing, as if these biewers are from 2 purebred yorkies, then they are infact yorkies, but with different coloring..I feel that maybe a maltese somehow comes in to the picture, if you look at my Fritz(biewer), he has a lot of maltese resemblence, even down to the maltese proud prance. |

I do know the Biewer breed has been determined to be genetically different from the Yorkshire Terrier breed and has been accepted in the ARBA |

Parti Yorkies have coloration randomly. Biewers have an established pattern and strict standard. Perhaps this should be moved to a new thread? I love discussing the breeds....BTW I still have my heart tied to Yorkies and can't live without them.   |
yorkies are the best Personnaly I Prefere The Traditionnal Look Yorkie, Because Of The Espectacular Colors : Gold And Silver, Blonde And Tan. They Are So Unique, If I Want A White Dog, I Will Choose A Maltese. Please No Offense Because I Like All The Small Dogs And The Biewer Is Also Beautiful. :) |

We probably could start a new thread.... The MARS test has established Biewers as a separate breed from the Yorkie. Thus, it could be accepted into ARBA. Three show clubs/venues/ organizations lead the way into AKC and ARBA is one of them. The other two are UKC and FSS. The Biewer Terrier Club of America (BTCA) is serious about testing and discovering the heritage of the Biewers. |

My thoughts about the overall look... I have a Biewer. If I was able to change the colors in Gus' pictures I doubt anyone here would ever guess he wasn't a yorkie and I know other Biewer owners that have said the same about their own. In the real world, the white sometimes confuses people but I've never had anyone mistake him for a Maltese. I've heard, "I thought he was a yorkie but wasn't sure because of the white" so many times I've lost count. There is even a breeder here that has a yorkie in her avatar that looks so much like Gus to me it's amazing. If you were to compare the standards you would see the Yorkie and Biewer are described almost the same. The general appearance, size and shape of the skulls, eyes, and ears, the set of the ears, the length of the muzzle, the body, (other than the color) the coat, and so on. There is very little difference between the two standards, so if bred correctly, they should look alike. Wait until you see more of them in person and I think you'll change your mind about the look. Just my two cents. :) |

I personally prefer the Yorkie 100%. I wanted one over a decade before I got her. They're so feminine and pretty. Biewers look(to me) like a large fluffy mix dog. If I didn't know from reading YT and saw one, I'd assume it was just a mixed breed dog. For some reason they always seem so much larger too(maybe their hair if fluffier?) Now on the other hand, I think chocolate yorkies are adorable. To each their own :) |

Right now, I could not choose Biewer over Yorkie or vice versa...I have the best of both worlds IMO and lovin' each moment. |

Well anyone can choose to believe what they want about the MARS test. 40 Biewers have been tested and they can and do go back further than 3 generations. As far as: Does not do coat color, genetic diseases, coat length, color patterns etc.... have you found a source that provides this information??? I know every one reading this is curious. |
