Stay at the In-Laws was a nightmare!! First of all, Happy New year to you all! Just got back from the In-laws yesterday and was back in work today:( We stayed with them for 5 days, it was Pixie's first visit to their house and it was especially hard work for me, as there are sooo many hazards at their place! They just don't get what it's like to care for such a tiny dog! Pixie was very good really, she's still a puppy (7 months) she had a couple of little accidents which I managed to cover up pretty well!:p My hubby's parents obviously think we spoil pixie..MIL said.."she's got you right where she wants you". FIL insisted on feeding her treats when i told him not to:mad: (their collie X is overweight) They would drop food/wrappers on the floor which Pixie would get hold of and then I would be running after her and trying to prise the offending object out of her mouth! They threw leftover food scraps out in the garden which made toilet trips with Pixie a nightmare! They would leave outside doors open without even a thought for her safety! I had to have eyes in the back of my head! They never watched where they put their feet either and My baby was stepped on a few times, everytime she yelped my heart was in my mouth! I practically held her most of the time we were there to keep her out of harms way! I did take her crate which was a godsend! and did give me peace of mind when unable to supervise her properly! Does anyone else have these problems when visiting relatives!? Apart from all that, I did have a goodtime! It was just hard to relax! |
Being that I am the Pets Hotel for my family, I never really have that problem. If anything their overweight, under exercised pets lose weight and get the exercise they need while here. My nephews and niece have all been raised with pets so they know how to be gentle to them, with the exception of the one time my youngest nephew about to sit on top of Chip thiking he is like their lab. :confuse2: We did have an incident last weekend when they were here and on their way out the door. Which at the time I had my cat, my two boys, my sister's yorkie, and my other brother's cat. One of my nephews was holding the front door wide open. I could see all the animals inching towards the door, and I yelled "CLOSE THE DOOR!", luckily there were no escapes before they closed the door. |
I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Maybe next time you can invite your in-laws to your house and show them how you actually secure everything for your furbaby. Some people are completely unaware of the life of our furbabies and what it takes for their safety. :yorkiesar |
You are lucky they allowed you to bring her at all. |
LOL. This sounds all too familiar. |
Oh Boy!!! Can I relate. My parents came for thanksgiving and stayed 10 days!!! They KNOW I don't feed my dogs table scraps, well I look over at my Dad and he is feeding all 7 of my dogs pizza under the table:eek: Yeah you guessed it...I was cleaning up diarrhea for 3 days!!! OOh I was soo mad! |
Hi there... Well, I can feel your frustration. Though, I do agree with JeanieK... that you have to look at the good side of it. Which is, that you were able to bring your furbaby with you in the first place. I've definately learned that taking Meka with me anywhere is my responsiblity. And in no way can I expect my destination to be able to fully accomodate my furbaby as she would be at home... So I bring everything that I need to assure her safety and happiness :) |

I don't expect them to change their lifestyle just to accomodate my dog...but l just wish they were a little more aware..especially when leaving doors open. This was the first visit with Pixie so next time i will be much more prepared! |
Sorry you had such a frustrated time. Since we have gotten yorkies we started having all family get togethers at Our house |
After 30 plus years of being married, I don't bother submitting myself to the torture that are in-laws. I just send my husband home for a visit if he wants to go and I stay home with my babies. :^) |

:p my in-laws when they are in my house will push Jasmine off of the couch or bed whichever she is laying on because they feel it is gross. Well my dog is clean and sleeps with me every single night in between my two pillows and it's her house so I get upset when they push her off and make fun of me for letting her on all of my stuff...I don't care where she is as long as she is safe!! But they won't pet her or anything like that I wouldn't dare take her to their house oh man...lol |
I'm sorry you had such a rough time with your inlaws, but atleast your through it. |
I don't want to come across as ungrateful and i realise how very lucky i am that i can have her with me..luckily they have always had dogs around and really don't mind having mine:) They just have no idea even how to care for their own dog properly...i mean..she had even thrown leftover salad containing grapes out on the lawn too...i had to go out and pick every piece up before pixie got to it, she would only go to the toilet in their garden while off the lead..I did try to make her go while on the lead but she was very fussy about where she went because of being in a strange place! |
Thats why i got this sign and put it so it can be seen as you come into the house : Our Yorkies live here, You dont !:D |
