hehehe, I'm on the other side or different side from your situation... My bf's family got yellow lab who is about 85lb, very good dog and outside dog. But his dad let him inside the house half the day and that is when I forgot about their size differences... I left Momiji's bull stick which is only what 10 inches long? Koda (the yellow lab) could swallow it!!! Luckily my bf got it before Koda. (Well all of her toy as well...) His family is sooo nice that they let me bring her even after she tore up their grandparents old black/white picture to 2 pieces..... (I am feel sooo bad about the incident....) And they never give her anything, not even dog treat!!! (well their dog treat is about the size of Momiji's head...) I know it is not exactly a relaxing time with in-law with your furbaby.... Hope you can recover from it this weekend!!! |
I'm sorry you had to go through that. I think they could have tried a little to be more helpful to you......... My family is awesome when I visit. they know I worry a lot, and I explain the added danger with her size. When I was uncomfortable (with big nephews that are clumsy and I could picture crushing my little girl).....I held her, took her with me out, or put her in our room. When she was wandering around, my Mom and Dad were very good about watching that she didn't go near a door. And also held her for me when they could see I was concerned. So I was happy for that, and would bring her again........ Yes, it was nice they let you bring her....but still. They could have made an effort (just my opinion)..... :) :) :) |
I had to laugh reading all of these posts, not because they are funny at all, but because I am SO glad that you all have been through similar experiences as I went through, and I'm glad I'm not the only one who has these feelings! So many replies really hit home for me! Isn't it so frustrating when others don't understand the care and love you have for your furbaby? This was my first holiday season with Sully, and let me tell you that I'm very glad the visit with the future in-laws is over. Some of you have given me a nice idea that it's ok to send the hubby/boyfriend away without you sometimes! It's nice to know everyone here is so understanding! :) |
HELLO KERRY - HAPPY NEW YEAR...... I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE SAYING, THOUGH I ALWAYS FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH MY OUT-LAWS (OOPS I MEAN IN-LAWS, OR DO I  ) IN MY SITUATION I ONLY VISIT FOR THE DAY OR A FEW HOURS, AS WE LIVE CLOSE BY EACH OTHER - WE DON'T HAVE TO SPEND THE NIGHTS THERE...... I RARELY GO ANYWHERE I CANT TAKE HARVEY ANYWAY, UNLESS IT IS UNAVOIDABLE. THEY PROBABLY JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW WE YORKIE PEOPLE ARE WITH OUR BABIES - I THINK ONLY OTHER LIKE MINDED YORKIE ADDICTS UNDERSTAND OUR WAYS........ AT LEAST NEXT TIME YOU WILL KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT WONT YOU, AND MAY BE A LITTLE MORE RELAXED TOO. BYE FOR NOW. |
I take Shelby everywhere with me, but I keep her in her purse or on a leash right beside me. When she was younger, I took an expen and set up a little safe place for her where I could see her. |
Srry you had a bad time. I understand though, when i visit relatives with the dogs i have to be extra careful cause they just don't get it or understand what it's like caring for a Yorkie. When i'm at my brother's i can't really have them on the furniture as much like i do all the time in my house, and also at my dad's. That's why sometimes i just prefer to stay home where me and my furbabies can be free and do as we want and not have ppl telling me"Oh don't let them do that, or be there, etc":D |
I forgot to say, once when i was at my dad's(he lives in a house on a kinda busy street) i had Teddy with me and he was off the leash with his belly band just walking around the house. Someone rang the doorbell and my stepmom opened and left the door open i guess thinking he wouldn't run out. Well he did, he jetted out the door to explore lol good thing he just went next door to smell the neighbor's flowers but i was running so fast! |
