Mandy and Tina, my female schnauzers have helped settle Kayla down alot, but you talk about energy. This one can run through the house 90mi. an hr. and never hit a piece of furniture. MY schnauzers just look at her, like what is she on?? We have noticed she bites and will be really hyper at bedtime because she fights sleep. She sleeps with us and after she is put to bed she is okay. They are just like kids. She is a mess and I would not trade her for nothing but you have to have alot of energy to put up with these little pills. Also, I forgot to mention, she does like to cuddle but she wants to be held and everything on her terms. lol!!!!

Sorry about your schnauzer. Your yorkie sounds like mine, running through the house at 90 miles an hour. lol I am shocked right now as she is actually sitting on my lap STILL while I am typing this! YAY! There is light! lol :)

I have never tried putting her on a leash in the house, but a good idea. I will try anything at this point as we are all miserable with this situation.

Thank you so much!

Hi! I'm new to Yorkie Talk too and have already found it to be an absolutely fantastic resource!! I have a two year old male named Luther and he was a bit difficult to potty train as well! I used the pee pads and he too liked to tear them to shreds!! I found a pee pad tray holder and it worked wonders....it was like it gave the pee pad a boundary in which he would stay in and actually pee on it instead of right next to it!! Now he mostly goes outside but for the late night emergencies or very bad weather he still uses his pad. Hope that helps!!

Best of Luck!
Kim:)

I bought one of those pee pad holders too! Please don't be upset when Luther takes the pee pad out of there as mine did. She pulled it right out of the tray and shredded to pieces. lol It is kind of funny when you sit and think about it, but VERY annoying. She has been doing better lately. Maybe she is growing up. LOL

Forgive me, but I haven't read all the posts in this thread because there are a lot, so I might be a little late on what I'm posting. The way you seem to be describing her, she seems to be on the extreme side, but just for curiosity sake, have you ever owned a dog before or been around a lot of puppies? The reason I'm asking is because if you haven't, then maybe her behavior might seem extreme. I also think everyone wants a yorkie because they appear to be "lap dogs" and to tell you the truth, they really aren't. They are boundless forms of energy that just never stop... kind of like the energizer bunny! When we first brought Chip home, we never thought he'd calm down. He was bing binging all over the place. He couldn't sit still for more than a second! He's now almost a year old and has calmed down some and will actually sleep outside of his crate. He started to calm down around the beginning of October, so he was about a 9-10 months old. Has your little one been spayed yet? Chip calmed down a little more when he was neutered in September. Sometimes that can play a part in it. Have you tried taking her to obedience classes at all? Try taking her to puppy classes. A lot of the trainers will have helpful hints and will work with you on specific areas that you need help with your dog. Chip needed a lot of work with human socialization and aggressiveness. In the 6 weeks of classes, I've definitely seen improvement, but we do have a ways to go. As for potty training, join the club! I also have a rescue that we are working on the potty training issue. It's really difficult, but with a lot of consistency, hard work, and lots of treats, she'll get it! When she poops, try picking it up and putting in on the pad rather than just cleaning it up. Make her smell it, then praise her. If she pees in the wrong spot, soak up the pee with the pee pad and do the same thing with the poop. As soon as you let her out of her crate, make her stay on her pee pad until she potties. When she goes give her treats and over praise her... practically throw a party! Also, I know mentioned about her shredding the pads. Do you have it just laying on the floor? I believe there are products out there that will hold the pads down securely. I never had to use one, cause thankfully Chip got out of the "grab and go" phase really quick.

Also, does she spend a lot of time out of her crate, or is she locked up most of the time. She might not be getting enough exercise and that's why she seems so hyper. Try taking her on long walks everyday and spend lots of time playing with her. If you work long days, try to take her to a doggie day care or something, or maybe consider a mid day dog walker. She might just have a lot of pent up energy.

Yes, I have had many puppies and dogs throughout my life. I have never come across a puppy like this. lol She is a little bit of energy to say the least. She does seem like she is trying to settle down. Maybe it is my other dog that has her so hyped up, I really do not know. I have a mixed older dog that is larger and female too. As far as pee & poo goes, I don't think she will ever completely get that right. LOL But I will continue to try hard.

Happy New Year!

Thank you for your help.
