Kozanna doing well, but so sad Kozanna's first night at her new home went very well. She was 9 months old on Dec. 14. She slept all night without any problems. I set up an x-pen in the living room with a vinyl tablecloth on the floor and newspapers so she will have lots of room to move around, but is still confined when I can't watch her. I want her to see everyone and everything that goes on around here. She wanted to chase Lacy and Cosmo this morning and licked my fingers and let me pet her a little. She is afraid of being picked up, so I don't pick her up, just sit on the floor and let her come to me to be cuddled. I had never met a dog just out of a pupppymill before. Let me tell you, it is so very sad! Kozanna is just out of the puppymill 12 days today. This little girl just stands around, doesn't know what else to do. She obviously isn't used to having room to move around and doesn't know what toys are. She doesn't snuggle up to sleep, although she finally did sleep in a snuggle bed. She doesn't know not to potty where she sleeps and I think she had very little space at the puppymill. I think she needs to gain some weight and her muscle tone is not good and her legs aren't straight and firm. She's getting good food now and will get more exercise and I hope she will look and feel better. She got all of her shots yesterday and a worm pill this morning, so the last couple of days have been full of shocks for her. Things are pretty quiet around my house, so she will have all the time she needs to get used to being here and understand that she is loved and will have everything she needs. I just want to hold her and cry! She is very pretty and has such a sweet little face, with big, sad eyes and big Chihuahua ears and a tiny little nub of a tail. She shivers and I know it isn't cold in my house. She has a nice sweater that I will put on her when she goes out, but that won't be for a while. It's quiet and settle down time for sweet Kozanna. All she has to do is learn to be a well loved little girl. |
Congratulations on your new little one . I am sure with the love and attention you'll give her , Kozanna will soon realize she have a wonderful new home . for taking her in your home . |
how wonderful that you have taken that sweet baby in and given her a wonderful home! |
AHHH- YOU ARE BOTH LUCKY THAT YOU ARE TOGETHER! sHE IS GOING TO HAVE A WONDERFUL NEW LIFE! |
Reading your post...my heart just goes out to her and tears filled my eyes. How sad for these babies and God bless you for opening your heart and home to this little girl. |
That's so wonderful she has you now. She needs to start life over like a new puppy and everything is new and wonderful!! |
This is such a sad story with a happy ending. I look forward to hearing future updates on how she is doing ... |
Kozanna is doing well, but is still very afraid. I let her loose in the kitchen and sit in the floor with her. She seems surprised that she can run and will run back and forth and tries to play with toys. She picks them up, but doesn't seem to know what else to do. She licks my fingers and even kissed me on the nose, but trembles when picked up. She knows me and I can touch her without causing too much trauma. She is spending more time curled up in her cuddle bed sleeping instead of standing in one place. I am moving very slowly with her and letting her adjust at her own pace. She is very sweet and wants to be friends, but is so afraid. It breaks my heart to watch her when I would just love to hold her and cuddle her and comfort her. Maybe one day! |
Oh, my eyes are welling up with tears reading about your little Kozanna. It is going to be a glorious day for both your and her when she adjusts completely to her new surroundings and learns how to be a normal, happy, puppy. Then there will be NEW tears in your (and our) eyes.......tears of joy! Best of luck for her continued "growth" and a big hug to you for adopting her! :love-hug3 |

I have shed lots of tears over this little one. When I saw her picture and read her story, I cried. When I brought her home, I sat and cried. I pick her up and see her reaction and cry. It's going to be a long haul, I think, but she will be worth it. I hope she will blossom and respond to the love I have to give her. I don't know if she will ever be a normal, happy puppy, but I'm sure going to try. |
Bless your heart. Hopefully all she needs is a little time and you'll two will be the best of friends before long. |

Good luck with her and I hope she comes around and relaxes enough to do what she's born to do - |
Poor sweet Baby, and bless you for giving her a chance ! Hopefully with your love she will Thrive :D Cant wait to see more of her here ;) |
How lucky she is now ... puppy mills are so sad ... my Jax and Jolie are so spoiled and I cant imagine them ever going through what some of these dogs have to endure. She is so lucky tohave someone like you. |
I so admire your will and dedication. Hopefully, one day I will be able to devote my retirement time to rescue work. All I keep thinking about is just soft soothing words and lots of gentle tummy strokes. How very lucky she is to have you. |
you and kozanna are so very lucky to have found one another...just give it time and do exactly what you are doing :) she will soon start her "new" life over with you...a HAPPY HAPPY life!!! :D |
She is so lucky to have you in her life. Give her lots of love for all of us. |
Iam so happy you saved her, bless you:) I hope things turn out so wonderful for you both:) |
I am in awe...what a fantastic thing you have done and are doing for Kozanna, I admire your strength and your spirit. Hoping it will rub off on your new little girl, so that she will forever live a life of freedom and have no more fears...she so deserves a life of luxury, and who better to show her the way to be a happy, healthy puppy. May your life be blessed and this story have a happily ever after ending. |
Is Kozanna's story chronicled here on Yorkie Talk? If so, do you have a link? I'd like to learn more about her story ... If not, please share the story about how you rescued her from a puppy mill. |
It will be worth it. We've had our little Roo for alittle over two years now. It's just going to take time. He was free just a month when we adopted him so everything was new and scarey. We drove four hundred miles one way to get him and on the way home he fought so hard not to fall asleep. Our other two yorkies were a comfort to him I think. He just fought falling asleep the next day too. But finally gave in and passed out. There are some minor issues that he will always have from being a mill dog. He is happy now and spoiled rotten. I never thought I'd see him playing with squeaky toys. Love, patience and time. God bless you for adopting her!:animal-pa |
Just three weeks ago, Kozanna was in a puppy mill in Tennessee where it is freezing now. I move very slowly around her, sit on the floor with her when she's out of her crate, and don't grab at her or anything like that. I don't reach down to her when I'm standing up. If I'm going to pick her up, I get down on her level and do it gently. I talk to her a lot. I've always talked to my Bichons, so that isn't anything new. Her big crate sits in the living room where she can see and hear everything that goes on. She's out to run around in the kitchen several times a day. I've ordered some panties for her so she can be loose more and run around with my Bichons. She will come to the side of the crate and lick my fingers when I go up to her and that's progress. If I leave, she gets all excited when I return just like my Bichons. She won't come to me when she's loose, but will lick my fingers. It's just going to take some time and I have plenty of that. She's a little cutie and I can't wait to see her enjoying life like a puppy should. |

I imagine she will be a blessing as much to you as you are to her. I think it's an awesome thing you are doing and you should be very proud of yourself. |
Kozanna came from a puppy mill near Bristol, Tennessee. She is 9 months old and had spent her whole life in a little wire cage. She was rescued 10 days before I got her and I've had her a week and a half. She had no socialization and is afraid of people. She trembles, and spreads her legs out like she thinks she will be dropped when you pick her up and wee-wees. I am taking it very slow with her, letting her warm up at her own pace. I have two Bichons who are very calm and kind and I hope they will help her see that living here is a good thing and I am a friend. She wants to be friendly and wiggles all over when I talk to her. She will lick my fingers and wants to come to me when I sit on the floor with her, but won't quite do it. She is in good shape physically, but needs some good food and exercise, which she is getting now. Right now, I'm just loving her and talking to her and letting her get used to the household. I got her a big new crate that sits in the middle of my living room for when she isn't loose. I have ordered her some panties so she can be loose in the house with my Bichons. She's cute as a button and sweet. I do pick her up gently several times a day, wrap her in a blanket, and hold her for a minute or two. She quiets down and seems to like it. I have actually picked her up a few times without any wee-wee, which is progress. I know it will take some doing, but I have high hopes, lots of love, and plenty of time. |
Wow! I'm so happy that this little one found her way into your home. Sounds like you are an incredible "mama" and have exactly what it takes to help this little girl out. Is that her in your avatar? |

Princess Kozanna is a little not-quite-four-pound Chihuahua. The pic in the avatar is my granddaughter's little yorkie, Samantha Love. Sammy will be a year old in January, so I need to update my avatar and get my Bichons and Kozanna into it. Pic attached is sweet Kozanna. |
She is just as beautiful as she can be. Thanks for sharing her story and photograph. How did you end up with Kozanna? The reason I ask is that I have the time, love and patience to take in another baby (in addition to my Yorkie/Chihuahua mix). |
God bless you for rescuing little Kozanna!! It takes some a very long time to "warm up" but it's the most amazing thing when they do! Thank you so much for keeping us updated ... I'm waiting for the day when that shy little one creeps up on your lap all by herself, and I know you are too! :) It does take a lot of love & patience! ;) |
You sound like just the "angel" that little Kozanna needed. You both are lucky to have found one another! |
