male yorkie hair styles... Ok- here's my ordeal... Leo is 6 months old, his hair is growing out and looking really nice- except for the "hair visor" look he has going on over his eyes. You know the one I mean- his hair is not long enough to brush back and stay put- so it rolls over his eyes. It drives me crazy! He has such pretty eyes- I want to be able to see them! I want to let it grow out, but my family is getting tired of this look and pressuring me to cut it. It's long enough to put in a top knot, but "the family" has a fit when I do this- they say "it's wrong for him to have a pony tail- he's a boy!!" He does look really sooo cute with it pulled up- he's too thick and stocky to look girlie in any way so he looks like a little sumo wrestler :D Any one out there with macho male hair they can share a picture of? Or some males with the top knot so I can show them it is not just a girl thing? Any advice? I'm thinking if I just keep doing the sumo hair, they will get use to it eventually... |

There are some images of Carter on his dogster page. I haven't been putting bows in his topknot -- only the elastic. http://dogster.com/pet_page.php?i=153927 |

You are his momma and you can do what you want with his hair. I think it's just as cute on boys as it is on girls. Plus you have no other choice if you want to grow it out. The poor guy needs to have out of his face and eyes. Unless you want to cut it. I think everyone will stop griping and will get used to it. Just do what you want...my theory..hehe |

2 Attachment(s) I think the topknot in boys is adorable! Unfortunately Brutus wasn't having any of it so I had to cut his hair and I think he looks adorable! I brushed his "bangs" forward and cut them on an angle. This way it's shorter in front and longer on the sides. I have a picture of the front and a profile but I'm not sure if you can see the cut. Brutus is 6 months too. |

Awww, Carter's Mom- he is sooo cute! What a sweet looking boy you have there! The picture of Carter in the yellow striped shirt, that is how Leo's hair looks when I put it up. It's long enough that I roll it back under the band so there is no hair sticking out the top. Vainchick5- I agree - I am leaning toward doing what I want with his hair- he is, after all, MY DOG... but I would be willing to compromise if we could find a look that satisified everyone... :p |

1 Attachment(s) i put pretty clips in brownie and hes a boy i dont care what people think i think he looks cute ! :D |

My family told me the same thing. But I was putting bows on the top knot. so what I do is dress him in boy clothes and I have colored plastic bands to match all his clothes. I once used a rubber band, the ones used for braces but it pulled some of his hiar when I took it out. when he isnt dressed and I take him out everyone calles him a her, but I don't care. I just correct them. I've posted this picture before but show them this,,, All boy sporting our teams jersey. I think yorkies are so cute with long hair. |

I wouldnt get it cut. I took Diesel to the groomers and told them to clean up his face and give him a cute puppy cut. I almost passed out when they brought him to me. I dont think they left 1/2 inch of hair on him....his legs are almost shaved....I hope it grows out soon...I wanted him to look just like Brustus' hair cut above....Clean face and trim around the body but it didnt turn out like that..How long does it normally take for it to grow out. |

I make "manly bows" for little boys. Like ones with soccer balls and footballs and stuff but that may not solve your problem. You can also use vasoline to push his hair back and make it stay. But you will eventually either have to put it in a topknot or cut it I think. And I think either way he will look so cute! |

I had started cutting Chester's hair because my husband said I made him look like a girly dog. I regret doing it and have been growing it out for quite sometime. |

I have tried the vaseline and I guess his hair is just too heavy- it still falls forward. Then he just has a greasy hair visor. Latuya- I took one of my females on an outing not too long ago and there she was- looking all pretty, long hair flowing, pink/lacey ribbon wrapped around her top knot and about 6 different people went " Oh- isn't HE cute!" Hello? Do you see the pink lacey ribbon? I keep reminding my family of that little episode when they give me a hard time about Leo's hair. |

Why do some dogs not mind having bows and clips in their hair and others don't rest until the d#$m thing is out? I did originally want the topknot but it bothered him so much I gave in and cut his hair. Now I guess I'll never have a topknot because I don't know if I can deal with the growing out stages just to get the point I was in with him hating them! UGH! I am going to try and grow his hair long everywhere else and see how that works out. |

If he doesn't mind having the bows in his hair I wouldn't cut it. Check out before vaseline and after. This is before the haircut too. |

Leo really doesn't seem to mind the topknot at all. (probably because he can see for a change!) I put a little one in Mia's hair as well (his sister's)- not that her hair is long enough for that yet, but I want her to be used to them when it is. Go figure- her hair grows soooo sloooowwwww. I am sure it will be another 6 months before she will need to have her hair put up. When my other female was little, she had lots of hair like Leo and every day I would put a little bow in her hair (she hated it!!) She would have it out and be eating it in a matter of seconds. I just kept putting them in every single day, she would wear them a little longer and a little longer until she got use to them. |

Putting Hair Back 1 Attachment(s) Hi- If you check with the standards both male and females have their hair up in a top knot. I have a male, Matise, and I get flack about it to because everyone thinks he is a girl and I just inform them that the standard calls for both male and females to have a top knot. Matise always has his up in just an elastic around the house but when we go out he knows the drill he has to wait and then I put a bow in his hair he doesn't care I think he thinks he looks handsome. I have put bows in his hair since I got him and he never bothers them Here is the link and it talks about it under the coat. http://www.akc.org/breeds/yorkshire_terrier/index.cfm So I don't think you should feel bad and grow it out again if you want and put it up. Kara and Matise :aimeeyork |

1 Attachment(s) You can find boys bows if you want. Even little clips with cars or sunglasses types of things. I just use a band for around the house. Here's one of my boys. His body is cut but the coat on his legs and head is still long. I think he looks like a guy in his "ponytail" ;) |

I just got chachi groomed and got the puppycut. I am gonna let it grow out now and will rubberband a topnot. No bows or barrettes though. |

My boys is 6 months too and I got tired of not seeing his eyes. I haven't done bows but I use colored bands...he doesn't mind it at all...neither does my husband. But then again, he had hair down to the middle of his back and wore it in a ponytail too til a few years ago! You can see Romeo's pictures on the photobucket account in my signature. |

If anyone questions you . . . I would just inform them that all yorkies - male and female - are characterized by their topknot and that it is almost as traditional as yorkies with long coats. Some owners choose to cut the topknot; others do not. Decide which look you like and don't let anyone in your family persuade you otherwise! :) |

Kara, Matise is very handsome! I love his hair! CC's, your little guy is so adorable! You are right, he definitely looks like a boy in his topknot! |

Thanks everyone for the advise and sharing your pictures! (I LOVE looking at everyone's pictures- it's funny how individual each yorkie can look but yet every single one is just as adorable the next! :p ) I think all of your sweet baby boys look great with top knots and clips! I will go forth with the top knot- they (the family) can learn to deal with it! ;) |

Wow! What handsome boys you all have! I really like Brutus' hair, I just might cut Max's bangs like that ;) I would really love for Max to have long hair like Carter's, his coat is amazing and he is only 1 yr, Max and Missy aren't too much younger than him and their coat isnt even close. Great pictures Lisa! I love your dogster page ;) |

Stephanie: Thanks!!! Holly: Thanks for the kudos! Actually, yes, I am a pro photographer but most of my images of my boys are snapshots. I really should take more photos of them than I do! YorkieOwned: I'm so glad that you decided to do what makes you happy! Your family will get used to it! I love Carter's hair being long. We're trying to get his bangs to grow out. Its a painful process for me but I'm sure the reward will be well worth it! Jennette: I really am trying to get Carter's coat to grow long. I did trim it yesterday though so that it would look "neater" --- just a tad on the bottom so that it wouldn't appear so straggly! Every moment I have the chance, I am brushing him after spraying the Plush Puppy Reviva Coat. I'm trying my best to keep his coat from drying out at the ends. :) |

I put Chewy's hair up in a topknot and am quite obesessed with his grooming lately! I think it is fine for the boys - my husband won't allow bows but that's ok. If you click on Chewy's dogster link below, you can see his topknot ifyou want. Don't let anyone pressure you. The knots are cute ;) |

All of your pups are soo adorable! I wish that it wasn't 110 degrees in Texas so that I could let Bux's hair grow out! :( I will in the winter though I am so glad to read that those with boys are putting knots in, I want to so badly, but my bf says that it is too girlie. So, I just keep him puppy cut through these hot summer months |

3 Attachment(s) I just got all of Tino's hair cut off, but here are his before and after pics... I love Tino's topknot and just put boy bows in it! |
