what do you do with your baby when you go on vacation? Hi all, Just wondering what everyone does when they go out of town and cannot bring their babies along. My bobby wouldnt do very well at a kennel. He is too attached and needs lots of personal attention. I dont have any friends or family that can take him. I dont have any trips planned but just the thought of planning one makes me worry about Bobby. |
I have a very good friend who came and stayed at my house. She works as a fitness instructor, so was in an dout several times during the day and here at night. The girls LOVE her and it has worked out well for us. |
Well I haven't went on a trip yet, but I plan to soon. When I do, Riley is coming with me. I'm going to choose an airline that allows dogs in the cabin. Lots of hotels are dog friendly now too.:) |
 I don't go because I don't trust anyone to watch them. I'm too paranoid! |
We take them with us. |
I have my niece come and stay at the house with the fur kids. She loves being with them, and it works out great. Plus, she is a teenager so she likes making the extra money to pup sit :D |
We left them at our vets kennel. The girls in the office love them and they had lots of attention. But we also bought a RV so we will probably take them with us alot too, especially to Disney World wilderness resort campground.....   |
When we travel we take the boyz with us and now that we have the girls they will go too. I've checked into the kennels around here, in case of an emergency or something, and so far I'm not impressed...one of them actually charges for 'playtime' with your dog and that's absolutely ridiculous! I guess if I just couldn't take them with me I would have to have my Mom come stay here in our house with them...I'm not too trusting outside of family. |
I waited till my babies were a year old and then found a sitter who had her own Yorkies. I took them for 2 playdates and then a trial overnighter before I left them for my trip. It was rough leaving them but I trusted the sitter, she's a member of my church that I've known for several years. I called every single day to check on them - they had a blast:) |
my motehrinlaw or a family member comes over to feed them and let them out |
We took our very first family vacation this year and my dad babysat at his house. I would also suggest that the gang at YT can pitch in. |
If we can't bring them, we drive the 4+ hours to my parent's mountain house to drop off the babies and then go on our trip from there. We travel to Florida a lot and my parents have another house in Florida too- we are pretty careful to match up our travel plans to when my parents can babysit and where they will be at the time. |
I'm leaving Jesse at a Petsmart Hotel in a week for a business trip. I'm nervous, but I think he will be fine. |
We either take them all along or good ole Grandma Bonnie comes to babysit.(my mom) |
I left my boys for 1 week with (at the time) the guy I was dating. My boys adore him and he adores them! They had a week of getting table scraps (nothing crazy that would make them sick, but WAY more than I would have fed them) and having run of a HUGE house! hahahaha and NOT being told NO and no brushing or baths... they were IN their glory! I SWEAR I heard them tell me they didnt want to go home when I got back! HAHA |
Since having both Dior and Diezel, we have taken them on every single trip with us. |
My girls stay with g'ma. She comes EVERY day to get them and watch them. She adores them as much as I do:p |
my mom is flying into town to take care of my babies while my fiance and i are in costa rica for a week. im lucky because i have a lot of family and friends that are lined up to take care of dexter! lol. im glad my mom is coming here though so he wont be in a different environment |
Luckily I have family members that take care of my babies if I have to go away. |
I still can't bring myself to go on any vacation or even one or two days without them. Last year my husband was on line making flight and accomidations for Hawaii, but when he found out we can't bring the dogs into Hawaii without a few weeks quaranteen, we backed out of everything. He's the same way with them. They are our little girls and if they can't go, we don't go. Simple as that. We would not be able to have a good time without worrying about them every minute. Not worth it. |
Vacations aren't in our budget and won't be for a while, but we've taken 2 trips to my parent's summer house (6 hours away) and taken them with. It's not a very dog-friendly house but there's usually 5-6 eyes watching them. Then we take them everywhere because the place is very dog friendly. We want to go visit family in AZ (we are in IL) but can you fly with 2 dogs and 2 people? That is too far to drive. If never went on a honeymoon so I would like to go to the beach somewhere, but I'd probably choose FL so we could take them with :) It's not so much that I don't trust someone to care for them, but that they both get medicine and go out so often it's a real hassle to take care of them and I think someone else might be frustrated with them real quick. I would maybe split them up in that case. |
Difficult to Leave Our Little Guy In response to your question: My husband and I take our little Remi everywhere we go. If we plan a weekend away we investigate dog friendly hotels way in advance. We are AAA members and I would suggest that you call and ask for the Pet Friendly Hotels book they offer to members for free. It lists hotels all over the USA. Remi has been to Weddings, Surprise Birthdays, Christenings, and Funerals. We have a comfortable doggie pocketbook and also a traveling doggie suitcase on wheels that looks like a airline onboard carryall. Most of the time no one knows he is in the room. We always ask the hosts permission beforehand, of course. Because we have been doing this since he is four months old, we are fortunate that he "never says a word" when he is in his carriers. For those occasions when he absolutely cannot come along we leave him with his breeder. This is our first choice as we do not have anyone that can come in and stay at the house. If it is for one overnight we leave him at the vet's office only. We keep these at an absolute minimum! Hope these thoughts were helpful. |

I am the same way....Hubby took vacation and went to visit our oldest daughter in Pennsylvannia.....He was gone 10 days over Thanksgiving....I stayed home with the boys because I did not feel comfortable leaving them....Daughter's apt is a no pet building....And did not want her getting in trouble....So I just told hubby to go have a blast and that we would be fine....And we were..... People can not believe he went and I stayed home....But hey...These are my babies.... We do go places and take them but if they are not welcome....I will stay home..No problem... Joyce |
We either take Madeleine with us or she stays with my parents. I wouldn't trust anyone else to keep her |
Our kids travel with us whenever we go. Stay at pet friendly motels and such. Have even stayed where pets weren't allowed but were told because they were small it was fine. If they can't go we don't go. And I too have stayed home because of our babies, and hubby went.:animal-pa |
If Wobie can't come, I don't go. He's coming to Colorado with me in a week, and I'm nervous about the plane ride and everything, but I would much rather have him with me than with anyone else. |
i recently took a weekend trip and left Nathan with his "Auntie" ! A good friend of mine whom i go to church with and they both had a good time. She said he can come stay with her anytime!! and I am so glad, cause going out of town again in January, and twice in February but I plan to take him with me on one of those trips |
I dont like leaving Koda but when I have business or pleasure vacations that she might not be allowed to come along, My brother & my nephew are the perfect sitters for her (they spoil her) That way I am very ease when I am away, I have also a good friend who takes her and she gets to spend time with her Yorkie friends:) |
we're going on vaca in 2 weeks. the first 2 nights im boarding her until my boss comes back from her trip. then my boss will pick her up and take her to her house. it works out pretty well bc im taking care of her dogs for a few nights before dropping them off at the vet. too bad our trips werent worked out so they werent boarded at all. |
I feel so lucky - I have a neighbor that will sometimes take him, now I have another new neighbor that loves him and will take him. I take him to New York from San Francisco to visit my parents. I don't like to take him to dog friendly hotels because he barks. Also I have the most amazing daycare place where he is only in a crate to sleep at night, but from 6 am to 7pm he gets to play with all of his friends. But it costs a fortune. Right now I am babysitting for some friends of mine who are in Hawaii. I have their 2 Papillions along with Buddy and MAN its a lot of work. Had to get everyone on the same schedule and still there were accidents. 3 dogs when you have to go to work every day is too much for me! |
