I forgot my usual disclaimer about flexis. Do not walk your dog with a flexi unless it is locked. Mine cannot reach the street or our property line if I am standing on the porch with the flexis. I use the 26 foot ones because they have less tension than the 16 foot ones, which is good for tiny dogs. When we go for walks we use 4' leashes :) I agree about STAY. Loki has a great stay inside and even outside on a leash. He knows he must have a leash on to go outside. I just know that if he saw something he considered "scary" (a big dog) I would lose his attention. It truly is about knowing your dog. Sammy is still learning so we have to be careful with her. She tries to run outside to greet people when they open the door, but then follows them right back in. Luckily we don't have squirrels at our house, but my mom does and I know she would bolt after a squirrel. |
Mine just don't run off...unless there is another dog or cat outside. We just walk out and check to make sure all's clear, then bring them out. If they start to wander, I just call them back. Occasionally they may get a foot or so into my neighbor's yard and poo, but I just pick it up and she doesn't mind. We go out in the front yard all the time with them (only 1 or 2 at a time) and they just stay right there. We just watch very closely. Ane we live in the very back of a huge neighborhood in a cul-de-sac, so there are never many cars. We know all of the neighbors and they drive SUPER slow because there are always kids or dogs or people out and everyone of us has dogs. |
Hi, We live on 2 acres and do not have a fence. From day one - I took both dogs out in the yard and taught them the boundaries. We took them around the yard and showed them what was good and what was bad. They know that they are only allowed out of the yard unless they are on a leash. I would have to say - most of the training came from Steve - he is really good at training dogs and he has had them his entire life and trained each and everyone one of them the same way. It is weird - they never try to run or anything like that. They actually run towards the house when they have finished. |
We use Flexi leashes. It gives them more room to walk around. Because for some reason my dogs have to be all the way at the end of their leash before they poop. |

Pens I have 2 big 10x20 pens-- they are portable and can be moved if needed, very handy if you're renting. I have a smaller one for my puppies. we put plastic lattice over the tops and latched it down with cable ties just in case of hawks. we live in the country so we have to be careful. they love to play out there, we put some plastic lawn chairs and toys and dog houses and they really love it, they stay out for a couple of hours on nice days.:) |
Were old school too, we use a leash. |
Flexi is our only option, because of the wildlife here, they go nuts when they see or smell deer, bobcat, cougar and god knows whats above  and trust me i am not a person that is easly scared... and too many sad Stories from Neighbors !!! |
I always take Lacy out on a leash. I use a leather step-in harness & leash set. |
I live in apartments. So there's no fences here except behind us to block us from the next road with houses. I use the flexi standard leash and a harness. It's the rules anyway they can't be off leash. Cody has escaped out the front door a few times. gave me a scare. and you know how fast they run.. so yeah always a harness and leash for mister cody james :D good luck! |
Leash and or a small pen which is set up right outside the back door. http://www.petsmart.com/product/inde...amily&keepsr=1 |
