Anyone use Petsmart? Anyone use petsmart for dog training? Is it a waste of money? |
if your dog learns NOTHING, the socialization is amazing. However that being said Layla has taken begining, intermediate and we will be taking advanced in the new year... and she has learned SO much! |
Thanks. So it has been worth your money? They said if I didnt feel happy with a class she can be left behind at no charge to take the class again. So it is working out good for you? |
My friends Chi learned squat. He was 2 weeks out of finishing classes and he was a terror throught my house. He even peed on my Tv! ( bog widescreen that sits on floor/speakers on floor).... argh! |
Diva took the beginners class and I think it was very beneficial....I think it depends on the trainer too. I had a lady named Kathy who was excellent. A neighbor of mine had some guy and she is not very happy with him...She's talked to Kathy and along with my recommendations, she's going to retake it under Kathy. When I got Foxxy, I used a lot of the techniques I learned and it has been working out very well. So I say it's worth it but you should talk to each trainer as you go to the store and see who you feel most comfortable with. Diva was 5 1/2 months when I took her. |

I really have my own personal doubts about there. I know they do guarantee products and prob the training. Marcerella02 were you consistent on your training and that is why you lil furbutt turned out great? GinosMommy was your friend not consistent on training? I have a co-worker who used bark busters and was had. |

Chip has taken and finished beginner and intermediate at two different PetSmarts. Nothing to do with the trainers, just that one opened up way closer to us. Chip LOVED going to class, he a had a bit of a socialization shell at first but now is a social butterfly. I did work with him alot out of class to maximize the benefits of each lesson. After the new year we are going to take the Advanced class. You may also want to look into private schools that offer small dog only classes, since there tends to be (at least here) alot of large dogs in the class which scare the little ones. btw: way off top. but are you going to Santa Paws at the Ritz on Sunday? |
I'm sure it depends on the individual trainer that the store has. I think it's important to remember that with any training class, that it's up to you to work with your dog outside of class. The class you go to once a week is not going to train your dog - they are really to teach YOU how to train your dog. Your dog will only become trained if you work with it each day during the week in between classes..and then continue to practice after the class is over |

I did it twice & loved it both times. I had two different trainers and they were both wonderful. I'd definitely check out the trainer (maybe watch a class first) and see what you think. I think that what you and your dog get out of it depends on the trainer. |
We had an amazing trainer at Petsmart. She loved dogs, was thorough, listened to our needs, and really cared. I remember she spent like, an hour on the phone with me one night when I was really frustrated. |
Bailey had a wonderful trainer at Petsmart. We have taken the class a couple of times before I got Angel for socialization. The first few classes the first time Bailey was very shy around other dogs and sat under my chair. She had a Great Dane friend at her last class, it was a riot a 100lb+ dog and Bailey barely 5 lbs. He had a huge crush on Bailey and was very protective of her. Bailey learned a couple of tricks and she stays unless released. Our trainer said I could bring both girls in at no charge whenever I wanted. I would recommend PetSmart. It does depend on the trainer. You can meet the trainers before the class starts to see which one you are more comfortable with. |
