Winter, little ones, and ambien don't mix Ya'll are never going to believe what happened to my dad. My mom is in the hospital having her second knee replacement in 3mo. So my dad is taking care of her, working some, and taking care of their Maltese. Ok... he is exhausted... beyond exhausted... because the hospital there sux and he does everything for my mom (like bedpans). So he goes home for his first night asleep in his own bed (my mom was moved to a rehab hospital). Ok... well he lets the maltese out... then puts them in their bed (awesome bed he designed for by his bed)... and sets the alarm. He goes and takes an ambien. He said he woke up and heard them barking... then yells hush and goes back to sleep. Well ... all of the sudden he wakes up again. They are going CRAZY!!! Which they never do at night. He gets up to ck on them...thinking they had diarria... and can't find them. He hears them outside!!!! He had gotten up (ambien sleep walking... don't know if you have ever heard of it) and put them outside... the front yard... in 32degree weather and reset the alarm and went back to bed! He has NO memory of any of this! He was soooo freaked! My mom would have K I L L E D him if anything had happened to her babies... and not only was it freezing but their french doors go to the front yard...not the back yard! Right by a main street ...well... they have 3 acres... but no fence in between! My mom use to take ambien until I went to stay w/ her and started telling her what she would do on the stuff. She would get up and eat a whole cake or rehang all her pictures... or turn all her figurines around backwards... crazy stuff and never remember it... blame it on everyone else! My dad had never had this reaction to the stuff.... but I guess no more ambien for him (if my mom is not at home). I love ambien but I have crazy hullicinations on it too... if I don't go straight to sleep. If my husband gets frisky... I see people standing in the room while we are doing it and everything... IT is one POWERFUL drug. I say all that to say this. If you take ambien.... be careful.... you never know if it will affect your kids fur or skin! |
Wow, those poor little darlings to be left out in the cold like that. I know exactly what you are talking about the ambien sleep walking. I was on ambien last year for a period of time and crazy things happened. I would have complete conversations with people and have no memory of it at all. It can be a very dangerous drug if left alone. I'm surprised he woke up and heard them at all. So glad that they are ok. |
I used to take ambien, it never did anything like that to me..wouldn't really even work all that well..so, quit taking it..those poor little babies.. |

Seriously though...doc gave it to me and all it took was 1 time of taking that stuff and I said NEVER AGAIN! It made me hallucinate, all joking aside...about dwarfs on bicycles chasing me. I can't imagine it being safe for anyone to take without someone else around. |
won't again Well... apparently by the time he let them in it couldn't have been more three hours.... but he doesn't know if it was 5min. or 3 hours. CRAZY. Well, they got to sleep w/ daddy that night (NEVER HAPPENS) and he said they slept under him almost and went immediately to sleep. No worse for the wear but I bet when my mom gets out of the hospital they will tell her all about it! lol |

YES...exactly....dwarfs/gnomes like the one from Travelocity! And the same thing happened to you! Whoa....what is it about gnomes. Now if it had been elves...particularly of the Orlando Bloom type... |
that is weird My husband makes fun of my hullicinations too. I haven't heard much about them on the news.... just about the sleep walking and eating. It is good to know I am not the only one that had these hullicinations. The last time I had one that I was in Gringots vault out of the harry potter book... and I was telling my husband be careful... you are going to fall out of the cart... we are going down the shaft so fast... stuff like that... he apparently asks me questions and quite enjoys these times...lol |
Gringott's...which is operated by short, dwarf like goblins! Anyone seeing a pattern here!? |

My sister (17) takes Ambien reguraly, and she really freaks me out sometimes. She'll be talking totally normally, and then all of a sudden start talking gibberish, like real words but in random order. Its so weird and she sounds posessed. I'll take it occassionally, but in very small doses, so I haven't had any gnome hallucinations... |
Now I'm curious... WOW......... I've never heard about ambien before... What is it for?? |
It's a sleeping pill if you are suffering from insomnia. |

I do have insomnia, and I already took 2 different drugs prescribed by my doc - I don't know the translation in english of the names of these drugs... But, they make me dream a LOT... it's annoying! |

Anna, I am so jealous, he is my favorite star of all. He seems like he would be really nice in person, sorry to get off topic. |
bama Oh my gosh... I didn't even put the 2 and 2 together on that one... you are right! All of us dreaming about nomes.... dwarfs... weird. I wish someone would study the hullicinations and see if that is more prevelant. Wonder what part of the brain it stimulates to make us think of dwarfs and nomes... seems so specific!!! Actually it is almost scarey! |
Thanks for the warning. I wouldn't want to land up on my front lawn in my pjs. |

I take Ambien too. You def. have to go to bed as soon as you take it. If you stay up, you start doing all kinds of wierd stuff. It causes very vivid dreams. My Husband got mad when I first started taking it and wanted me to stop because he said it made me weird. The dreams are so real that sometimes they seem like memories instead of dreams. I have to stop and think...Did that happen, or did I dream it? |
My daughter has a friend that has weird reactions to Ambian. She got scared the second time it happened and won't take it anymore. Anyway, the first time she took it, she went to bed, and everything seemed normal. But she woke up downstairs on the couch. No biggie, right? Wrong. Apparantly sometime between her bed and the couch she went to Walmart, did a ton of shopping, paid and fell asleep on the benches at the entrance. The employees woke her and put her in a cab to go home. The cabbie even brought her bags to her door. When they went to pick up her car they asked inside about it and the manager told her what had happened. He thought she was drunk. She had no memories of it at all. The second time a similar thing happened, but she went to BestBuy and bought a laptop. The thought of driving like that and not remembering is so scary. You could end up anywhere. When my daughter told me, I thought it sounded like a great excuse for shopping, but her friend was really upset about it and truley did not remember. She won't take it anymore. |
Wal-Mart!? Holy crap that is scary! |
wow I heard about other people driving places on it and not remembering... that is insane! I bet if they truly knew how much that happens they would take it off the market... but... for those of us who love it and those who are addicted to it... that would be a real tragedy so.... shhhhhhhhhhhhhh lol |
i love ambien,, dont drink on it though...never ever... found myself on the floor a few times... you just pass out, i dont do that anymore,,i know better:confused: you can become addicted to them so everyone who takes them,, please be careful |
lol... can't imagine what they would be like if you drank on them! Holy cow... if I stay awake a few extra minutes on it I am drunk as a skunk....lol |
Oh no. Now I am starting to get worried. I was recently put on Lunesta and I loved it ...no halluncinations and helped me sleep real well. But it left the worst taste in my mouth. So the doctor wants me to try Ambien....but after hearing all these stories I am kinda worried. This should be interesting when I try it tonight. I hope I don't halluncinate. But one question...do you find that if you get 7 to 8 hours on it like it says that you still feel groggy the next day? I am just hoping it doesn't make me groggy the next day. I usually only sleep for 7 hours not really 8. With Lunesta, I felt great the next day...sleepwise anyway. Also are these halluncinations more prominent in Ambien or Ambien CR or is it about the same? Any other side effects that I should know of? |
