Does anybody read to their dog? My boss has 5 dogs, 3 poodles and two yorkiepoos and she wanted to know if I read to my dogs? I started laughing thinking she was kidding....I mean I barely have time to read myself a book let alone to my dog. She wasn't kidding and said they love to be read to... I sit down on the floor or on the couch and my dogs are right there wanting me to play fetch. Does anybody else do this? She says their favorite book is Dr Seuss's Green Eggs & Ham.... |
I actually saw a book at Borders the other day that was titled: Three Stories You Can Read to Your Dog. I had to do a double-take... |
My boyfriend reads to Riley. It helps put him to sleep. I think its mainly hearing our voice that helps him go to sleep. I don't read to him though. One thing Riley absolutely LOVES is the cartoon network. Its so weird. When I turn it on, he will run and sit on the couch and watch TV. Its cute.:p |

The only thing Bailey cares about is if you are throwing a toy for her. If she were a skinkid she would be labeled as having ADD. Angel is so mellow, she just wants to be near me (but she would chew up the pages of the book.) :p |
LOL! I don't think I could get Jamie to be still long enough to read to him. |

.... well I don't read to Maya but my 7 year old does. They lay on the Sofa and she reads and Maya just looks at her the whole time. They both seem to enjoy it so why not ??? :) |
Since I am in school, sometimes I read out loud and my BFs cocker spaniel likes to lay next to me...I think he likes to hear my voice, because when I talk aloud he looks at me like he is interested....:D I guess it is better he listens to my nursing stories then my bf (BF has a weak stomach :D ) |
WOW - now I've heard it all! :D Sorry but to be totally honest here, the thought of reading to my dogs has never once crossed my mind LOL. My husband, and I'm sure my dogs too, would think that I had gone totally insane if I even so much as attempted this :D  |
No, but I sing to them. :) |
No, have never read to Rockie; but its a thought.:D :D He is so spoile enough already.:animal36 :littleang |
LOL, my daughter has always read to Spike. She'll get a kick out of knowing she's not alone. He loves it. |
a cat I had a cat (passed away last summer) that would lay on the book I was reading til I read to him. I guess he got it from the fact that I read to my kids. If I layed on my bed and opened a book... he would jump up...plop himself on my book... til I started to read.... then move.... if I moved him and didn't read.... he came right back. It got annoying... it hurts my throat to read aloud...even to the kids... but to the cat...lol... I never told anyone that I did this! |
Yup, I read to boobah and gina I read to both my babies and the subject matter is basically whatever is at hand. Yesterday I read a story to them about the french revolution!! I guess its just the sound of my voice at a steady rhythm is what soothes them!LOL:D |
After reading some of the replies here, I'm almost afraid to admit that I do read to Max all the time, LOL:D . I don't know that he enjoys it so much, but I always read to my parrots who also didn't listen to me (they squawked constantly while I read to them:rolleyes: ) but I did it anyway, haha. I just like doing it. My favorite thing to read (actually, I don't need to read it, I have it memorized) is "The Night Before Christmas". It drives my husband cuckoo when I do though:p . |

See, a kid does it and that's cute....but when an adult does it, we think they're nuts. lol. PS: I think it's absolutely adorable that she reads to Maya, i bet she loves the special attention :) |
OOOOOOOOOOO CHild IF ONLY mine would sit still for something like this, and to the poster whose child reads to their dog WHAT AN ASSET, the more that child reads the smarter they become. HOw wonderful!!! |

I don't think mine would sit still enough for me to read to them, but we do watch tv together.:) |
My DD (7) loves to read to our dog, Leo. Some schools use therapy dogs for children with reading disablities, like my DD. The kids get to practice their reading with someone who is not judging them.;) I wish my DD school had that. So, I started Leo sit with her when she reads. |
Every time I get a book out Kalina chews on it. I don't think she's ready for stories. :) |
I told my boss about some of the replies and she just laughed. Now I can't say she is crazy...;) Actually I think it is a good idea for children to read to pets. Anything to get a kid to read is ok by me.:) |
No. BUT, they read to me!! :D :D :D |
I do :) I have for a long time. I read a lot and one day I started reading out loud and Simon totally calmed down and Hallie just stared at me. I like to sometimes pull out my favorite books from when I was a kid and it's fun for me to read to them. We've read The Pokey Little Puppy, The Little Engine That Could and some of the Dick and Jane books :) I'm a little crazy but I'm ok admitting it |

Hey, if other people are reading to their dogs maybe I'll give it a try.;) |

They love each other ..... it's so cute :) |
Yes, I read to my dogs on occasion. They love it. It's just talking to them as far as they're concerned. My therapy dog, Cosmo, goes to the Children's Library and the kids read stories to him. He acts like he knows exactly what's going on and loves it. They show him the pictures and he will put his nose on the page like he's looking at the picture. The kids think Cosmo understands everything they say to him. It's very natural to them. |
Oh, yes, I sing to mine, too. Cosmo has his own Christmas song (Cosmo the Bichon) to the tune of Frosty the Snowman. |
Sometimes if I am in a slamming mood, or slightly drunk, I will sing along to a song, and Rocky goes crazy, starts kissing and just hovering around like a fly. |
