Aww yes, they are smart aren't they! Delilah sounds like a real learner! But that means she has a real good Mommy teacher  Koda also knows all those commands. I especially love his toy ones. He knows ALL his toys by name! I can say "wheres monkey? wheres chicken? wheres your krackle jax?" etc....also he knows "wheres blankie"! The one we use the most though is "drop it" lol! I swear these little furkids can find anything and carry it around with them ;) |

I was raised with Keeshonds which aren't the smartest of dogs... that's probably one of the reasons I fell for yorkies! Just last night: My girl asked me to put on Lady & the Tramp, I keep her movies & dvd's on the floor in front of the tv. She stood on the box doing the little coo/tail wag... this went of for a good 5 min's. I have a combo vcr/dvd player, Lady & the Tramp was still in the dvd (it's her fav) so I stopped the video I was watching and switched over to her dvd... as soon as she heard it, she crawled up on my lap and stretched out facing the tv. I was torn which one to put up so here's another recent example: Since her show coat is gone & it's cold out, she's been wearing sweaters... she has 3 and I let her pick which one. I also put her figure 8 harness on the ground and she steps into it. My employee just told me: the other day Kylie told her the bathroom was dirty and as soon as she changed the turf... kylie did her business then gave her ankle hugs to say "thank you". ??? I assume other yorkies here give ankle hugs, right ??? |
:lol tears I'm reading all these posts and can't quite laughing at all the things our furbabies do. Lucy knows her toys by name too. I tell her to get certain ones and she runs and gets them. I tell her it's time to get dressed and she goes to her drawer where I keep her clothes and stands there waiting. I tell her she needs her bows and she jumps in my lap while I do her hair. I swear Yorkies are the smartest little things. :D :D :D I love her so much. I think God everyday for her. |
I was able to take Chloe to a puppy training class at 4 months and it made a huge difference in her behaviour. She was the star of the class...really I'm not being biased. You should see if you have a class locally. They don't really train your dog..they train you! |

Congrtas!!! And Yes Yorkies are so amazingly SMART!!!! |
T.V. I'm sorry... but you really shouldln't let your furbaby watch too much t.v. It isn't good for their mental development.... Just kidding...lol. To the O.P. give yourself a pat on the back... these dogs are smart... but it takes a sharp and intuned owner to know how smart they are!!!! |
More!! I am loving reading all of your "smart Yorkie" stories! Let's have more!! Here's one: I keep Delilah's bag that I take her places in, in the hallway closet. Whenever I open the closet to get something, she goes berzerk because she thinks I am going to take her somewhere in the car! Of course then I feel guilty so I do!! I think they are secretly training us!! |

I'm the proud parent of a Home-schooled Honor Roll Yorkie!:p But you know, he can act soooo naive sometimes, lol! Just simple little things and it's like, COME ON KODA!!! hmmm another story. ummm... Well if Koda finds one of his shirts he will hold it down with his front paws and try to put his head through the bottom to get it on, lol! Hr looks so cute doing it. Needless to say, he has never successfully got one on:p |
