The cost can vary quite a bit from vet too vet. I've seen as low as $40 all the way up to several hundred dollars. You can call the vets in your area and see what they normally charge. Sometimes there are low-cost spay/neuter clinics as well.

A neutered male dog will make a much better pet. Unneutered males tend to mark - urinate on vertical surfaces - and will very often do this in your house. They can smell a female dog in heat from far away and will be very difficult to live with.

Breeding a dog to make money is the worst reason to do it. It is also hard to buy a puppy from a reputable breeder with breeding rights.

As a breeder, I can tell you right now that if you plan to breed him to make money from him, have him neutered. You will go in the hole money wise.Fair Lacy has given you some advice and articles to read.

No one who breeds a dog...either the famale or just by studding a male..."makes money." If that is your main reason for wanting to breed him, please don't be fooled by that misconception.:( Not to mention the fact that you run the risk of completely changing his personality.

To address the CKC issue...yes, they are a well known registry, but like any registry, they are only as good a their breeders. Sadly, CKC seems to be a safehaven for millers and people who have been suspended by AKC. :mad: It's those kind of unethical people that have contributed to the stereotype that ALL CKC breeders are scum with poor quality dogs. That is not the case. :( There ARE some CKC breeders who strive to do what is right by the dog. So please don't ever think that your little fella is any the 'lesser' because of the piece of paper that came with him.:)

Well said! You need to pay more attention to the breeder and not the registry. Unfortunately, there are also AKC breeders that are unethical and will sell you a pup that is no where near the AKC standards, who breed to downsize and make more money off pups that are substandard size. If you breed right you won't make a dime, won't have to rehome and won't contribute to the continuation of genetic problems within the breed. JMO

This was not the reason I got Skyy...Someone just told me I could... That was all..

Any dog CAN be bred, but most dogs should NOT be bred.

You can only get AKC registration if their mother and father were registered AKC.

BTW: I found that to neuter my Yorkie it will be $400-$500...That is outrages, is this normal?

I think that's overpriced. Call around to different vets in your area. There is only one vet here out of like 20 that charges that much. I would say $100-$200 is more average
