I wouldn't chance that one bit! We have had gruesome mountain lion attacks on joggers in neighboring cities to where i am over the last few years. They are hunters and will stalk you. |

not an animal rights activist I am as about as far from an animal rights activist as you can get... I have furs (too allergic to wear them), I come from a long line of hunters.... but come on people... unless the cougar is eating livestock... or pets ... no agency is going to relocate it. The rural area is where they should live... what do you want to move it into town? Or how about a zoo? You... as the human have to take the precautions. On the farm we always walked w/ a cow shocker... long stick that shocked cows (don't know why I was too young to remember what they were really for) and if any stray dog... wolf... whatever came up to you ... you could shock them. Most of the time they are scared of humans... however if you just let your pet run off leash... they would be a tasty treat for the cat! |

I live in the country i have a nesting pair of BALD EAGLES that live across the road at a fishery so i have to be real careful of my furbabies also. I myself would opt for the gun a cougar is nothin to mess with please be safe!!!:animal-pa |
live in KS. have a friend who heard her cats making an uproar in the middle of the night. went outside to check and found a bobcat in a tree right by their house after one of her cats. a couple of days later she came home from teaching school and found two bobcats sitting on her front porch. rumor is around here that when a pet disappears it's because a bobcat got it. we live on the edge of a small town and i always check before i step out the door with my 3 yorkies and 1 pommie. skunks, fox, opossums, raccoons, coyotes, and bobcats. too much wild life!!!!!!!!!!:( |

In the city (and rather populated at that) where my family lives they just caught 2 mountain lions on school property, and elementary school! I guess these cats (mother and baby) took 2 large dogs, a 45lb German shepard and a 60lbs dog of some sort, and cleared a 6 ft fence with them... All I can say, is be careful. I mean, when we start impeeding their territory, and they loose their hunting grounds, they are bound to go where there is food, and pets are easy prey. |

and that is why I have a secure fenced in back yard. And ditto to charly's post. Call animal control and the police about it. A coyote is one thing, a COUGAR is a COMPLETE other. That had GOT to be dealt with and quickly. It could hurt/kill someone. |
Trust me i read everything on that Wa.State Link. And i will report it, but from what i heard, they realy dont come out unless they causing trouble. I i dont think they will react to 1 sighting, but i can try. But they said on there sight, if you feel they are a Threat you can shoot them ! In the mean time we only go for short walks out in the open and close to the house ! My two are never off leash, as we see coyotes here all the time. matter of fact one of my neighbors lost one of their yorkies, and about another lost one of their dogs to one:( I dont know when they are going to learn not to let their dogs (specialy little ones) run loose, poor souls:( my next door neighbor got 3 goats , they are in a 5 foot fence and would be easy prey for cougars ( i think) ! I am def. keeping my eyes wide open. Not worried about Apollo, he goes on pad or outside, but Rosi wont, never has, and i didn know better when i got her and she was trained to go outside unless it is an acident during the night on a throw rug:rolleyes: Thanks for all the replys ! |
Maybe take your dogs to a Petsmart, Petco, Dog Park, or at least to a downtown-ish area so that you can all get a good walk in, without having to worry about being attacked by a giant cat... just an idea. |

I made up my Mind, i will be getting that 22....because i doubt my air rifle will do any harm ! I did warn the neighbors so they are on the lookout ! My next door neighbors that saw that cat are so worried about it they let their Chickens out of their pen to run around....by the way we also got Bobcats here also, and i saw one a couple of times, last spring ! Not counting whats in the Sky:eek: I think i might be ready to move closer to the city, if i could just convince my Mother :rolleyes: In the mean time not very compfortable walking too far, we got trails all around us going through wooded area and Rosi and Apollo love it !Thank god weather is soo crappy, all they want to do is potty and right back to the covered Porch :D |
