OMG....Cougar ! I am too scared to walk Rosi and Apollo ! My neighbor called me night before last and told me to be careful as they saw a Cougar behind their Barn. They have 2 Cows,3 Goats and Chickens. We usualy walk 1-2 times a day when it is not raining....now i dont know what to do:confused: Anyone have any experiance with them ????? Very scare as i have to take them out on a leash to go potty in the dark..... |
No advice on them, but please be careful. Maybe you can bring something that would make a loud noise to try to scare him/her off. |

Wow No advise, But I would be scared to. |
Yikes! Is there a wildlife agency nearby (gov't or other) that will try to capture it and relocate since it is in a rural area? |
Be careful!! We had one in our area a while back and it isn't like a bear. It doesn't scare off easily by noise. They are very territorial and they hunt small prey...so be VERY VERY careful with your babies!!! I know Beau didn't go outside until someone killed the cougar in our town. Best wishes! Stay safe! |
OMG! thats so scary! the biggest threat here in UK would be a Fox i suppose! Stay safe! |

omg thats scary ,please be careful |
Yikes! I don't know much about them, except that I think you have good reason to be scared...for yourself and for Rosi and Poli! I guess if you want to walk them, you better carry some protection with you. I would imagine cougars are the kind of animal that can quietly sneak up on prey, so if I were you, I would try to exercise the pups inside for the time being. |
I would not mess with a cougar, they are aggressive when they feel threatened.....or if they are really hungry. be careful! |
How scary! Be careful! I'm not sure pepper spray would even work because they could sneak up on you and you wouldn't even have a chance to use it. :( |
Get some pepper spray |
That's scary! I'd die if I saw one of those. |
I would call animal control, the police dept and any available other dept that would deal with the cougar. Thats a life threathing situation. It needs to be addressed. Any child or animal is prey for this animal. |

Thank god it has been raining alot, so we are only out to potty, not so lucky today, brats going to wanna go for a walk, as they have been housebound for days.... did some reading up on them, they are mainly roam from dusk to dawn, but it is not making me feel alot better. Mom has some pepperspray here, so will take it with me ,well its better then nothing....cant walk around with a 22 and 2 yorkies on a leash  a short leash today ! |
Let them walk, but stay real close to the house. Just keep circling the same area instead of a longer walk. |
That is scary. Be very careful and only walk them if necessary until something is done about that cougar. Be safe. |
OMG...Cougar 2 Attachment(s) This is why I trained Tricksie to pee pads. I live in FL. and alligators have been known to eat dogs, also snakes. Someone posted a thread a month ago, I think Montana, not sure, but she let her Yorkie out and saw some kind of an animal eat her dog, right in front of her. I would just have to be put in an institution. |
Wow how scary! Be careful |
Up in Boone there are mountain lions and lots of bears. Once a bear came into the convocation center at the university lol But anyways, I don't like to take them out up there for that very reason. Back in the summer we had to stay in a cabin even FURTHER out in the woods than the one I'm in now...I mean it was IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE and one night I took Maddie out to pee and she started growling towards the woods. I scooped her up really fast and looked out to see what it was...and there was a lion sitting right there staring. I backed away slowly towards the door (luckily we were about 2 feet from the door) because you can't turn your back on them or they'll sense fear and attack. I got inside the house luckily and didn't go back out again for the rest of the night lol. They're scary animals...they could eat you in a second and have your yorkies for dessert... |
:eek::eek::eek: COUGARS!!! How frightening! Sorry I can't help you there. I live in the big city... under the polluted skies of LA COUNTY lol. May you and your family be safe and unharmed... |

You might contact your local wildlife control people and see if they have any ssuggestins about staying safe. I would be afraid to take them out. Like cross your legs, guys, |

if your babies are paper trained, maybe you should just keep them inside until the cougar is caught |
I have run into cougars here in Montana twice! It is a very scary thing, I can tell you. If you see him, make yourself very big! Pull your coat up around your arms and make them look big. Don't whatever you do run from them, as they will attack! Just make yourself big and back off keeping them in your sights at all time! I would not take them out for a walk until this problem was resolved! Pat |
Washington State web site link Here is a Washington State link you may find helpful. It also gives a link to click on to report "cougar or bear" problems in your area. I would ask them if the pepper spray would work on a cougar, I know you can buy it for bears. Please just be careful, I would definitely stay close to your house. Cougars have been know to stalk people, I've heard stories of hunters being stalked. My son once came across one while hunting although it ran off when he stood up and it knew he saw it. If one is hungry enough you never know what it will do. My prayers of safety are with you and your family. http://wdfw.wa.gov/wlm/game/cougar/dosdonts.htm |
What about taking something like a metal dustbin lid (trash can lid! lol) and a piece of wood or bat, and bash the hell out of it if you see it! would make a hell of a noise! lol...but then it would probably scare your yorkies to death! :p oh well....just a thought! |
