What a handsome little guy! |
First off let me welcome you to YT!!! I have a 17 month old male yorkie named Reece...he was a breeze to train to go outdoors..I never really thought of neutering him UNTIL at about 13 months he started marking ALL over the house...I was shocked and horrified..I couldnt keep up with all his marks and most I didnt know he did but could feel that he was wet down there so knew he had gone and had to search the house to find out where he did it...he progressively got worse and worse..he was marking more in the house than out of the house...I decided to try having him neutered...its been about a month and half..and he NEVER marks in the house now..only outside on every single tree or blade of grass that is too long lol...but no more belly bands no more leg lifting on corners..and I wish I had done it while he was young so I didnt have to go through it at all...its healthier and can lessen his chances of cancer too..another bonus!! His personality hasnt changed a bit!! Oh and wait until your guy starts humping..ugh..Reece dosent hump anything anymore...its been a great experience and I am sooooooooooooooo glad I did it!! Your little guy is adorable and I hope my information helped!!! :) Dawn |
" btw could i get info on the range in ages a boy should be neutered, it would be appreciated. Again id like not to but if its absolutely necessary then ill have to." Small dogs mature earlier than large breeds. For this reason, my vet recommended that I neuter Sammy when he was 6 months old. And they also would have charged me more if I had waited till after 6 monhts. I don't know if I was supposed to do it so early- folllowing the vets instructions. The way he explained it, not neutering possible effects- dominance and temperament because he will still be producing a lot of hormone, marking the house, wanting to run away if he smells a female in heat (I know we all watch our babies!) agressive with other dogs, territorial (I have children so the vet told me he might become "jealous" and territorial of either one of us and react in a not so nice way to the others in the house, and last but not least, the possibility of testicular cancer. basically unless your planning to breed him, there really is no reason not to neuter him. Besides dogs have no emotional bond to "manhood" like people do. Its your choice, again, I'm no expert and I am sure there are other people on this board who have not had their yourkie neutered. Good luck |

Neutering |
My guys mark outside, but not inside. It seems like it's ok to me as long as he knows to only go outside. Mine are both neutered. |

What a cutie he is! And it sounds like he has you and your wife wrapped pretty well :) Everyone here has given great advice so I just wanted to say hello and welcome to YT! |
Both my boys are neutered and I still have some issue's with marking. But what I really wanted to stress to you was this......I was GIVEN, a 3 pound male yorkie that had NOT been neutered. His owners gave him to me because they could not keep in in the yard or in any fence. He ran the neighborhood like a tom cat. He was neutered the day after he came to live with me and was the best boy ever. So, in this case, it was better for his safety, because they lived in the city and lots of bad things could've happened to him. Good luck with your decision. |
