New to the Forum Hello there, I just joined the forum to try and get in touch with other yorkie owners. My husband presented me with the most wonderful gem this past Sunday...Madame Buttercup. She's so awesome. I've never experienced such loyalty and love as I do from Buttercup....she's always with me. She makes my heart melt. I'm so thrilled to be a yorkie owner! :) One question.....Buttercup is 9 weeks old and her ears are still drooping. I've been reading about shaving and taping....how do I shave her ears and what does this do to help her ears perk? Take care all..and thank you in advance for your advice. |
Hey. Welcome to the forum! I'm not sure about how to shave your babie's ears, but I'm sure someone here can help you. This site is addicting. Lol. Good Luck!:D |
Welcome to YorkieTalk!:) |
Welcome you will get addicted as much as i am. |
Welcome!! the extra hair could be weighing her ears down so I just get those little scissors and cute the hair off. you need to do it along the upside down v and on front and back! Along the v i use my finger as a guide so i dont clip her ears but get it pretty low just be very careful!!! I also massage the ears every day as much as i can till they start standing!! i heard it helps the circulation! |
Hello and welcome--- i have not been here long but have learned so much!!! and i am totally addicted!!!! I let our groomer shave Ollies ears and i never taped them..... he is 8 months and they never stood up--but we adore his floppy ear look. I have learned that sometimes their ears will stand then go back down when they are teething. I have read several different ways to tape them but have no experience so i will let another member share that info. good luck |

Hi....Warm Welcome to you and Buttercup!!! You will really enjoy it here on YT! |
Hello and welcome:) |
A very warm welcome to you, I hope you have a great time here, just ask away:D. I am relatively new here myself.....I just post a lot LOL |
Welcome! You can also shave the ears completely on the front and back. Looks funny for a little while but it gets the weight off so they can stand on their own! Use a mustache trimmer or clippers. |
I haven't dealt with shaving, but I know from experience that massaging the ears everyday works! It took about two weeks of massaging every night for about 20 minuets each, but it worked. Welcome to YT, you will love it here! |

Hello and Welcome to YT!! It's a fun place!! We love pictures .. Hope to see your baby soon!!! :) she has a beautiful name |
Hello.. nice to meet you. for ear tapeing it did work for my baby Lilly shave or cut the extra hair .. like what Txgurl06 and betsi mention taping the ear up you will need ...gauze and medical tape.. roll guaze enough to be from the top inside ear to the bottom inside ear not to large of a roll ..a little finger width or smaller place roll guaze in inside of ear and tape wrap the tape all around the ear. if need wrap the whole ear. tape close to the bottom of ear..it is ok if the ear folds..that is why the gauze is in the ear and to protect and support the ear leave on for a few days take off with sissors be really careful not to cut ear sometimes if you wet the tape it comes off easier. repeat when you see it start falling again. i had to do this many times now her ears are up |
Welcome to YT!!! The best website ever!!!! :D :D :D My Buddy's ears were still droopy at 12 weeks then all the sudden stood straight up with no help at all. Best of luck to you!! |
Hi and welcome to YT...it is the the most awesome place for Yorkie owners. I have 2 yorkies (and a litter of 4 at the moment) and I will be welcoming my 3rd yorkie in January. My first yorkie has floppy ears because back then I didn't know any better, my second, I made sure her ears would come up by shaving them and taping them up. I don't know how to insert website links here, but if you are interested in taping your babys' ears I'll be if you google "taping Yorkies ears" you'll come up with a website or two that will show you how it's done. Good luck...and can't wait to see pictures of your Madame Buttercup. Cute name, BTW:D |
Welcome to YT!!! Arn't these babies just the best?:D |
:wavey: Welcome to you and Buttercup. This is a wonderful place filled with kind, knowledgeable, fun people. To shave my yorkies ears I bought one of those inexpensive personal shavers - like the have at Walgreens for like $10 - they are about the size of a pen and they work great. |
welcome to YT! glad to have you! |

Bump .. |
Welcome to YT. Shaving the ears takes some of the weight off of them, and makes it easier for them to stand. |
