Update on Kirby
 

I decided to start a new thread on Kirby's progress since the other thread is titled, Kirby isn't improving, and I feel that is no longer the case!

I'm so tickled and happy and much more hopeful than last week. Kirby seemed to do so well today. When I took him out to potty, he walked much better! He hasn't fallen over while walking in the last couple of days and it is still a pitiful walk, but I DO see improvement!

Today, he did not want to be in his cat crate, so I held him much of the day. He relaxed much more on my lap than in the crate. I was sitting on the couch with Kirby and Libby brought a toy for me to throw. I threw it a couple of times for her and she brought it back and left it lay beside us. Kirby reached down and took the toy in his mouth and was making it squeak! I was so thrilled and told him that I think this is a very good sign! It just warmed my heart!

I emailed the ebay guy about the cart and asked some questions. It looks as if his carts don't leave the back legs exposed, and I think Kirby would need that to use his back legs as much as possible to help build up the muscle. I'm hoping to hear back from him with info. It could be that he won't even need a cart, but time will tell.

Libby is so cute...she is always wanting to kiss Kirby and today Kirby was kissing her back. I thought that was another good sign!

Connie, I am so happy to see this thread! Isn't it funny how we react to even small little nuances, like Kirby taking that toy and making it squeak. Little things like that, that we would normally totally take for granted, take on a whole new meaning when our babies are sick and frail.
About the wheels. Have you checked the company that made Babybear's Angel wheels?

Connie, I am so thrilled for little Kirby as you already know! I pretty much already said all of this in one of our many PM's, LOL...but I just know that he is going to be better in no time :) I still get a big smile on my face every time I read the part about him squeaking the toy :D It is just so cute!

YAY! Way to go Kirby:) How sweet that he was squaking the toy. He wants to feel better so he can play and I believe he will.

What exciting news!! Prayers continue for Kirby to make progress. Squeeking the toy and showing enjoyment for life are so important. I am thrilled to here that his gait is better -- I will go to my grave remember how excited I was when my Bichon, Andre, started walking after being paralyzed by a stroke. Having owners and vets who are willing to work to sustain their little lives thru alternative procedures is so important!

Kirby still seems to be doing better. Today when I took him out to potty, he didn't seem to be dragging his right paw as much. While walking today, he did go down on his side a couple of times, but more just the back end, rather than his whole body. I am very hopeful. He goes home with my daughter when she's off work and tonight I called to see how Kirby was and she said he didn't seem too great. She said the same thing last night when I called, so I think it is just that he's probably tired and ready for bed. After a good night's sleep, he seems to do better. Thanks for your well wishes and prayers!

I remember that too when my Andre was trying to get back on track - late in the day he seemed to regress some, but his body just didn't have the stamina built up for a full day. This too will improve. I'm sorry that your daughter has missed the best parts of his day.

I'm soooo excited for little Kirby. I've been following your emails and I know you are soooo tired with all you are doing just know when that little baby is walking around (one way or another) you had a huge part in it.
