Theresa, I did the same thing with the compound and hot pepper. It worked for a good while. But sometimes they just scratch away at dry wall and don't chew it. So, the things we would normally use does not work. I think that an X pen is the best way to keep Yorkies out of trouble when we cannot be right with them. t is what I use and I sometimes have 3-7 dogs to keep safe. They are kept in the X-pens (sometimes if I have a lot of them I connect 2 pens together) in the kitchen and family room. I like to connect the pens instead of separating the dogs unless I have a reason to do so.... |
chewing on walls Noah eats our plastered walls all of the time. There are two holes along our hallway where he has chewed on. The holes are about 3 inches above the floor and about 1 inch in diameter. The thing I don't understand is that the holes are not near the edge of the wall in any way. I don't get how he did it. |
You can get round sticks with flavoring in them, and they like to chew on them. Thankfully, Snoodles doesn't do that!---YET! Pat |
Someone once told me to put clear deoderant on the area, the taste is so awful the yorkie wont return to bite again. I did it and it worked!! Max was chewing on a chest I have in my room and the bitter apple didnt phase him, I rubbed clear deoderant on the bottom of the chest and he hasnt touched it since. |
 I was so angry at my 6 mo old this morning I could have rung his neck! He has plenty of chew toys, bones, etc. But while I was busy making some salsa this morning he jumped onto the chair where my purse was sitting, dug into it clear to the bottom and pulled out my MP3 player and destroyed it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. That MP3 player is one if the few things I own that I thoroughly enjoy and I use it every day when I walk. All I could do is yell at him. I'm sure he really has no idea what it is that he's done. |
My babies have never chewed the walls, but when they were little, they did attack my cabinets! I have been praying since I got them that they leave my silk draperies alone. |
MY PUUPY IS DOING THE SAME THING I GUESS IM GOING TO HAVE TO GET THE SOUR APPLE SPRAY :D :p |
Cheaper and better Forget the bitter apple too many yorkies actually like the stuff. I watched teh dog whisperer a long time ago on Animal Planet and I have two yorkies who were chewing their way through my furniture, baseboards, doors, anything wood. Go to your 99 cent store and buy the clear stick antiperspirant and rub it on the areas that you want them to stay away from. The clear does not show and I guarantee your yorkies will leave it alone. I applied once, and have not had to reapply at all. And it has been a year now. Every person that I have told this to has tried it and it has worked. Also, they sell at the pet stores a thing called "Stay away Stick" in a container similar to the stick deodorants and charge $10 for it and it has the same darn ingredients in it as the 99 cent store stick. Try it I guarantee it. |
Do you know what specific ingredients we need to use? I want to try to find the chemicals raw and not mixed with any fragrance or WAX or whatever holds the stick together. And, BTW, thanx for your post. Betcha lots of Dollar Stores are wondering why, all of a sudden, they cannot keep deodorant on the shelves...LOL |
Stomper has done this on several occasions. The vet said to expect it he is around 1 years old. She told me to just protect the walls until then!!! We have decided to ignore it for now, since he keeps doing it in the room we plan to redo! |
Eating walls My Jackson used to eat the walls. He started doing that when our schedules changed. We ended up using a lot of bitter apple. We also put a very sturdy, clear plastic type plexiglass over the walls. So, in their room where they stay when we are at work, they can scratch all they want, they will hit the clear plastic. Our new puppy seems to like bitter apple and one of our throw rugs. He licks the bottle as we are spraying the rug. Hope he doesn't get a taste for walls!HAHA |
2 Attachment(s) Gucci used to chew on my walls and furniture. She has stop doing that. I still see her chewing on my daugthers toddler bed mattress, grr. I emptied a bitter apple spray on the mattress and I still see Gucci chewing on it sometimes. I haven't got a new mattress because my daugther is already outgrowing it anyway cause she is 4. I will definetely going to buy a clear deodorant stick and rubber all over it, lol. Thank you for the advise. Attached see a pic of Gucci chewing on my dresser ( she doesnt anymore), and a pic of my daugthers mattress, grr. |
