Our new arrival came early Salvandor Dhali(Dolly) arrived yesterday. I know that I was suppose to get him on the 21st but she called and told me to pick him up right away. He was born on October 7. He is now almost 5 weeks old. We are very pleased to have him in our family. Pix's on the way. My husband needs to down load them. Thank you, Cathi P.S. I would like to thank all my YT friends in help me make the right choice in choosing a fur baby for my family. |
Please, please... PLEASE tell me this was a misprint and that this puppy is actually older than 4-5 weeks old?????? </IMG> |
i totally agree...but if the birthday is correct the puppy is only 4-5 weeks. |
No misprint Salvandor is 5 weeks 1 day old. The owners email then call me and told me to come and get him now. They were leaving to go to New York. I am so scared that I will make a mistake with him. |
well first off...no puppy should leave to their new home till at least 8 weeks preferrably 12 weeks...but this is all based upon current weight of puppy and their ability to leave their littermate and mother... please see if she is willing let him stay until at least 8 weeks or so. how much does he currently weight? i know that at this age they are just beginning to wean from their mother but still needs to be around and with her and the litter to adapt to the social skills and what not. |
WOW.. What kind of breeder would do something like this? Poor baby, Poor you!! |
Oh my goodnes!!!! Please, please be careful. Are you sure there's no way you can return that baby to its mommy for at least a few more weeks, preferably until 10-12 weeks old? You need to be soooo careful! I don't know a lot about this, but I do live relatively close to you (2 hrs) but just wanted to say, you need to watch this puppy's every move and be so so careful, please |
Wow 5 weeks:eek: Gosh i sure hope and pray things go ok for you, dont mean to scare you, but thats so young, was there no way he could stay with his mommy longer, I mean even a nother week would help. Im happy your here in case you have problems;) |
Did the breeders give you any specific instructions on his eating habits? Example: Is he even eating solid food yet? How many times a day? |
Congrats on the new furbaby... Though, as the other posters; Im a bit concerned that he's so young... I got Meka at 9 wks and she was such a handful. I couldnt imagine having a pup so young w/ such little time to be with his mom and other littlermates... Maybe you didnt know how old a pup should be when leaving their mom, and you shouldnt be faulted for that. I'd get him to a vet and get their opinion and go from there. If the breeder is already gone on vacation, there probably isnt to much you can do except give him the best care possible. Hope everything works out for you :) |
1st off Congrats on your knew little one. I just can't imagine one that little. Deiter was 11 weeks and I was a nervous wreck with him. I sure wise you luck on the little one. I just can't believe that she had you pick the baby up. Why didn't you just bring the Mommy with you. Say like Pet sit. That way you got to have the baby but with the Mommy so the baby could still get Mommy's milk. Sorry but this just blows me away. |
Cathi, This puppy was far too young to be taken from his mother and his littermates, but if you cannot return him then there are a lot of precautions to take and necessities for its well being. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions and I will try to help in any way possible. Has he been vet checked and has he had any shots yet? |

I was able to go see my puppy at age 5 weeks, last week, he was just starting to begin getting weaned and his teeth were just coming in, he also just started to get ground up mushy kibble. |
I can not return him they have already left. Most of the people that live around here say that they got their pups around 5 weeks old. I am sorry if I did the wrong thing. I have just had a stressful day. |
WOW 5 weeks...way too young. My mommies are still letting the puppies nurse at that age. If she was going on vacation she should never even had a litter of puppies.JMO |

Congrat on your new baby. 5 weeks is young but since you already have him and cannot return him; the only other thing to do is nurture him and give him the best care. I hope he's a healthy vibrant puppy. Good luck!! =) |
Yes, it was wrong of the breeder to send him away at five weeks but you didn't know any better. So we are here to try to help you. This poor baby doesn't even have teeth yet. Do you know how to feed him. You had better get you a tube of Nutracal and be prepared to give it to him. Please pm me if you need help. Try to get what you need before the store closes for the night. Om my, this poor little baby. |
Okay...let's stop saying this was wrong to do because even though it is, it cannot be changed. Instead let's help Cathi with all the wealth of knowledge of breeders and others we have here. Cathi, do you have any questions anyone can answer? If so, PLEASE ask them...everyone will be more than happy to help you out. We all wish the best for this pup |
sorry I didn't mean to stress you out but I was just a little concern. we are all here to help you out...don't hesitate to ask questions. |

How are you feeding him? You didn't know. Now you will. Don't get stressed out the baby doesn't need that also. So clam down. Take some deep breaths and let all the stress out. Ok, have you called your vet? We are here for you |
You got a lot of good advice here. We all just want to help, no one is upset with YOU for the pup's age, the breeder should know better:( Now that you have him, he needs to be eating something that is easy on his tummy and his new tiny teeth. If you go here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58036 you'll find this formula, which a very experienced breeder gave me when my Luna was a baby. It's what she weans her pups on, before starting them on ground up kibbles. A lot will say that the half and half is bad for them, but my girl thrived on it and had nice firm stools, no problems at all. I just wanted to also wish you luck and PLEASE keep in touch here, we're all concerned for your new baby and are here if you need us:love: |
I have a vet check set up He will be seen on the 4 of December. Our neighbor is a vet tech and I took him over there today. He eats wet puppy food and bottle water. She told me to stop by her office tommorrow and she will have the intern take a good look at him. She didn't see anything wrong with him right now. He weight about 1 lb. I was give feed and some instructions on what to do. But I am still very scared. I am sorry if I made anyone mad at me. |

We are not mad at you. We are upset with the breeder. We will be here for you. So get that out of your mind. At least he is eating. There are some wonderful people on here. So don't think that we not. We just worry about the baby puppy. Claim down. Because remember the baby feels your stress. So you need to stay relaxed. |

Five weeks old is way too young. Remember a couple weeks ago I posted in your thread that six weeks is too young? You do have a bit of a problem on your hands now. Your dog may have social problems because of this (mine probably does because I got her too early at eight weeks). Hypoglycemia is also a huge concern. I would be getting up every two to four hours at the least to check on it. What is important is what you have to do now though. It doesn't matter what a vet tech says. I would go to a vet immediately and have them set up a feeding schedule. |
I hope that everything is ok with him, thats sorda odd for the breeder to rush you into getting him at 5 weeks. I got both of mine at 8, which is still too young. IMO. Do you have some nutrical to give him?? Decemember 5th is awfully to long to go w.o seeing a doctor.. is there another one you can go to see just to make sure that everythings ok? |
