I just wanted to congratulate you on your new puppy. Can't wait to see pics of the sweetie. :animal36 |
Congrats on the new puppy! And I'm sorry everyone is being so harsh with you! That doesn't help anything at this point. Definitely follow the advice on nutrical puppy...its saved us a few times! And I got Elphaba at just before 9 weeks and she has NO socialization issues...she's the most social dog I've every seen. At puppy class all she wants to do is play...she won't practice. Then when we get home she does everything properly the first time! And I'd find out who the emergency vet is in your area JUST in case you should need it. |
I have a chihuahua named Ruby Tuesday, and we got her at five weeks. I didn't know any better, and she is a fabulous family companion, but horribly socialized with other dogs. She just doesn't know how to play. We love her to pieces, but at five weeks and 18 ounces we had feeding and hypoglycemia issues too. I'm glad you have the people here at YT to help you, I had a chihuahua board that helped me four years ago with Ruby. :D |

Sorry they seemed to have forced him on you so early. It seems as though she was stressed herself. I too use the military vet, but maybe see if you can get an initial appointment at a local vet to ensure that the pup is ok? I know that the on base vets are more than reasonably priced, but it may be in the families best interest for the long run to make an initial appt in town within the next day or two, just to make sure that the baby is fine. Hope that helps you out some. Best wishes. Lisa |

Congratulations on your new puppy! 5 weeks is very young to be leaving his mommy, but the important thing is to make sure he is fed OFTEN. Does he have teeth yet? Have you taken him to the vet? I haven't read this entire thread, but I did bring home a puppy at 5 weeks and I know how much care they need at this young age. My puppy's circumstances were much different, she was very very sick and was being refused by her mama. I took her and bottle fed her every two hours around the clock. Please keep in close contact with your vet to make sure this puppy is getting the adequate nutrition he needs, etc. Ask as many questions as you need to here, we are here to help! |
congrats Hi cathi, congrats to you and your new baby. I know how ya feel. I still have gitters over my baby ralph. I bought ralph when he was 12 weeks old. I was so scared i would mess up, BUT things worked out great. Ralph is now 5 months old and happy as ever. Don't be affraid to ask for help. I got my vet on speed dail (bless his heart) he understood my concerns. If you are a working mom like myself, ask for family to help out. I was truely blessed with animal loving family (they even fuss over who's gonna keep him when i go to work) BUT it helped to notice when something was going on when i wasn't there. Hang in there and once more congrats. I'm still a newbie so send me and PM whenever u need. OH and welcome to Yorkie talk. Hi Cathi, I woke up this morning thinking of you and your puppy. Please let us know if you have any questions... we are all more than happy to help. :) |
Dear Cathi, don't fret, everything is going to be okay. Don't be discouraged, all the people here care very much for you and your fur baby and will help you with any questions you may have. Get you baby to the vet so they can tell you where to go from here. A long time ago I got a very cute mix puppy at six weeks old, she was so little she fit on the palm of my hand, and to own it she was a bit of a handful. She needed to be fed spoon size meals every hour or every hour and half, she needed to be with me most of the time or she got very lonley and cried, she needed warmth at all times (a heat pad in a low warmth setting can be your best friend). But despite everything she grew up to be beautiful and healthy and I loved her very much. Like you I didn't know that her age was a problem at the time and even though it was a lot of work I didn't even feel it because I had wanted her so much and I loved her. You will do fine. |
For everyone on this thread I would first like to thank you. I call the vet clinic and I was told that if there is a cancellation they will let me know. For those that did not read the first post we named him Salvador Dhali(dolly). So far we have not had no problems he does his business on a pee pad and sleep next to me by our bed. I have just been a little tired because he get up several times a night. He is eating well and drink bottle water. I feed him 4 times a day, breakfast, lunch, snack and dinner. I tried the puppy chow and water but he seem not to like it. So I brought him the moist puppy food and he is doing a lot better. I just have to remember that I he is a little dog and have different needs then our older dog. I will post later need to get myself ready Cathi:thumbs up |

little baby  we have been waiting for our baby also , our breeder called yesterday and said we could pick her up. she is 6weeks old , had first shots yestereday , her vet is my vet. vet said my puppy is eating good , mom has dryed up and not feeding babys so would be ok to let her go because she knows i'll take good care of her.i have 2 others 10month old and 6 month old new babys name was to be tia, but grandaughter named her jazzy. i work but jazzy is in her playpen in the corner of my office today . she gets up goes to pee pad. eats alittle , plays , then back to sleep she is closly watched with the other 2 yorkies. they seem to think she is a new toy;) just watch baby closely and make sure he eats, goes potty and sees vet asap until then don't expose him to others good luck:animal-pa :animal-pa cotasmom, sugar, cota, jazzy |
