Why me? Hello, This is my first time to this forum. After 19 years with my wife she went and done it, brought home a dog. A 12 month old Yorkie named Buster. I am not not much on animals being in the house and really don't want them on me or touching me much. Being raised in the country, dogs where always kept outside and pretty much ate what was left over from supper. It isn't that I don't like dogs, just a take them or leave them type thing with me. So I am wondering why buster is taking up with me? There are 4 boys and my wife living here and this dog has picked me to buddy up with. He won't leave me alone! I wake up with him sleeping near my my chest, I go to the restroom and when I come out he is sitting at the door. I sit in my chair to watch tv and out of the blue sky he jumps in my lap. I sit at the table for my morning coffee and there he is sitting there just looking at me. He is lying between my feet right now. You would think this dog would take up with my wife who brushes him him all the time and talks to him like he is a 6 month old baby boy. Thank God he is house broke. He sits at the door when he wants out. Talk about bad hair day!! Is their hair supposed to look like this? Been here 1 week and has more clothes then me. The more I ignore him, the more he hangs around me. Gonna be a long winter. not to worry...he has a sweater |
Yorkies are loving and loyal. My husband felt a little like this when we first got a dog. Now she is side by side with him every night. If this is truely how you feel and are not joking...I hope your feelings will soften too just like my husbands did. Your yorkie will only want to please you. He/she will look for your acceptance and try to make you proud. Compared to your experience with the outdoor dogs you've had in the past , I think you now will finally know what people mean by "mans best friend". Good luck with your new family member! I hope it's the best winter you've ever had :D :D :D |

It's been said that "One does not choose a Yorkie....A Yorkie chooses you." :D Just relax, and ENJOY! You'll love being 'owned' by this little guy. |
I think it sounds like your wife got the dog for herself, and just told you it was for you..:) They are a sweet little dog, for the most part..anyway, my hubby feels the same way you do, but, he's good with the dogs..they're always up on his lap while watching t.v. And I know how you feel about the clothes, mine all have sweaters, but, it's only because our power went out two years ago in the winter and it was cold, so, I had to bite the bulllet, so to speak, and buy them one just to help keep them warm(we would also warm the car up and go for car rides..I think he wants you to love him, and that's great..go for it..you can always take the clothes off when the wife isn't home..:D |
LOL HI, Welcome to yt:) Sounds like he has attached himself to you:) you will now have a loyal friend for life;) would love some pics:p |
No sympathy from me! LOL! He sounds very sweet to put up with a grouchy guy like you. :p :D Enjoy him.....he'll be a great footwarmer:thumbup: :D |
Give it up! He has choodrn you as his person. My husband would be very jealous. |
I am sorry that you are feeling this way Yorkie's wants to show there love and affection at all times. My husband is not to sure still about the new arrive. We talk about this last night. I am sure that once you have give your yorkie a chance you will be surprised. Have you talk to your wife about this? Did you discuss bring home a new member of the family before your wife brought the dog home? If not, this maybe one of the issue that you need to talk about to her. I wish you the very best Cathi:aimeeyork |
Aww, Buster knows what he's doing. By the end of winter, you'll realize you've made the best friend a person could ever want. And, as Judy said, he'll make a great little footwarmer - not to mention a lap warmer, too:D . Enjoy that little guy. |
Um, yeah. Welcome. CP |

First of all, welcome to YT!!!! Your post made me laugh so hard!!! Sounds like Buster is gonna have you wrapped around his finger in no time!!!!! Little Yorkies have a way of doing that!!! My DH was not very excited about us getting a dog either but it took no time until he fell hard for our little Yorkie, Buddy!! Keep posting we want to hear how it is going with Buster!!! |
well you sound like my husband , and i will tell one thing he is in love with my babies now. Never thought I would see the day where he would be so hooked . The puppy knows you better than you know yourself lol. |
It sounds like you are among the general population of men that live with yorkies:D My husband was alway one to take em or leave em and my SIL's littlest male would always end up in his lap or laying on the computer desk while he was on it:rolleyes: The funniest though is that he doesn not like cats, doesn't hate them but would rather not be around them, well every cat we've had follows him everywhere, the foster kittens I have now, he actually lets them sleep curled up next to him at night:eek: So at least you're not alone;) |
I think maybe, Busters instincts are kicking in and, he senses your dislike for him. Yorkies, are VERY smart dogs and he is trying to make friends with you and wiggle his way into your heart. I think also he must sense you as the real ALPHA leader in the family and is being submissive to you. The most beautiful sight I've ever seen was my Nephew who was a CEO in FL for DOT. He and his wife had a Yorkie. We all went to the Mts. together on a mini vacation. My Nephew took his dog out to potty and at the door where he thought nobody could see, he gave his Yorkie baby a good night kiss. I still tear up when I think of that moment. They are both dead now so that makes the memory even more special. I hope you change your feelings about Buster. If you do you'll have the best friend you ever knew.:) |
