which one? ok i'm thinking of getting another dog in may:D so these are my top picks:animal-pa 1.yorkie;) 2.another maltese I already have one 3.morkie(maltese and yorkie mix) but i can't decide help me and my mom are debating about it  my last question is don't you think it's a better idea to get a puppy or a adult:confused: it doesn't matter to me but it does matter cause of my maltese shes 11months know almost a year:thumbup: but i don't want her to be bullied by a older dog :( but i know she wouldn't bully a younger dog cause shes so sweet, loving and a lil shy :p so I know that won't happen but what if it does? |
Get a yorkie since you already have a maltese. I wouldn't go the "designer dog" route |

I've got a Maltese and if she were younger, I'd get a Yorkie. Next time I plan on getting one of each. Of course, Maltese are so wonderful, you can't go wrong with another one. You'll learn a lot here about Yorkies (which is why I joined :) ) so hopefully you'll find out if the breed is right for you. I have a number of friends who have Yorkies and there is a big difference in personalities. Yorkies are terriers and feistier and actually were bred to do something. Maltese were never bred to hold down a job and would spend their life on your lap. I know many people who have both have described them as much needier than Yorkies. I am usually in favor of adopting adult dogs, but at eleven months, your baby is the perfect age to add another puppy. I think either a Yorkie or Maltese puppy would be fun. I wouldn't get a designer mutt, though. I don't believe in supporting that whole industry. |
I had a maltese years ago, she was sweet, but very needy, the yorkies are sweet, but, can get a little nasty at times, and the morkies(well, I love those)..my mom has one and my one sister has 2, my nephew has one, and they are the most sweet loving dogs..I think they tend to have the maltese personalities..or, I should say those 4 do anyway..in the end, the choice has to be made by you..go with your heart.. |
I saw you're in IL..My sister is in IL, she used to breed the morkies, but, hasn't done it for about 4 years now.. |
I love the maltese personality, I had one for many years but I love the yorkie. I have 3 and they all have charming individual personalities. Good Luck choosing. |
The term "mutt" generally refers to a dog of unknown descent. This is why the morkie isn't a mutt..:) They really are a sweet and really cute dog too..wish I had pics of my sisters 2, you would fall in love! |
I agree with hha. Go with your heart. Meet a few puppies and if your like me your heart will know almost right away which puppy to choose. :) |
aaaaawwwww guys thanks so much you have been wonderful help |
I think any would be a good choice as long as its a good fit for your family. congratulations on your decision to add another one. I just looked up Mutt out of curiosity and this is what I found cur: an inferior dog or one of mixed breed |
I don't know where you looked, but a morkie is NOT a mutt, as there are 2 breeds in one, and you know what the breed is..when you don't know what the breed is(there are too many breeds in it), then it's considered a mutt! A morkie is a sweet little dog, believe me, I've been around quite a few of them! You get the best of both breeds! In the end it's this persons choice as to which breed they get, but, all 3 are great dogs...:) |

It is just a definition, it doesn't mold our opinions |
I was referring to whoever it was that wrote the morkies were a mutt...do they not know that the yorkie has maltse in it..? A maltese is the only dog that was never bred with another dog to get the purebred.. |
Since you are on YT..I would think most would say get a yorkie..at least thats what I say lol...yorkies are awesome!! As with any breed there are good and bad points but hmmm I just cant think of anything bad about Reece and Soleil...they are pure perfection in my eyes!! Dawn |
thanks :) lol!! |

What a horrible definition! Mixed breeds are in no way inferior to any other breeds. :( Ariel is a Morkie, and she is so loving and full of life. I do plan on getting a purebred Yorkie, but not for awhile. Anyway, I'd say go for any one of the breeds you're thinking of getting. You'll end up with a lifelong friend no matter which you choose :) |
Well, personally, I am partial to Yorkies...;) But I would say to research research research!! Find out the personalities of the breeds individually and go with the one that suits you more. If you already have a maltese, you probably know at least some about that breed...but learn as much as you possibly can about Yorkies as well. That way you can make an educated decision. Really, in your situation, you could have either. Maltese's are sweet and loving dogs...much calmer and needier than Yorkies. But personally, I love the independent Yorkie personality and the "large dog in a small dog's body." If it were me I wouldn't go with a mix...but if you find one you love then don't let it stop you...;) |
I've researched about both breeds and mixed breeds I've bought books and everything but I still can't decide but at the top of my list has always been yorkies so i'm really thinking yorkie right know |
Get both:D |

Anyway, where did you get that a maltese was never mixed? Maybe you should read this history of the maltese origin http://www.annasheavenlymaltese.com/...e_history.html According to the histories I've read, along with this article, a maltese is a descendent of a spitz-like dog. As the maltese was developed, miniature spaniel and poodle were mixed in. |
Yorkie! Yorkie! Yorkie! Yep get one of these fuzzbutts! |
I say Yorkie:D |
thats okay sweetie, you're entitled to your opinion...I still consider a cross of 2 dogs, exactly what they're called, morkie, snorkie, whatever the other ones are..I love them all..I think a lot of people that think they own purebred yorkies are going to find they actually own MUTTS(in your words), after all this DNA testing...LIL, you go with your heart hon, I love yorkies too, I think the maltese have sweeter dispositions, morkies are fantastic too...let us know what you end up getting! |
I think they are both adorable, sweet little dogs...Matter of fact I was on the fence between yorkie and maltese...I decided not to get a maltese because they are white and I think, more work to keep them white. Actually there are A LOT of breeds I would like to have...just don't have the money to have them! As for the term "mutt" I'm going to assume that you are young well, I am 50 and in my day any dog that wasn't a purebred was considered a mutt. Or, a cross breed, if 2 different purebreds bred. Don't take it personal...there are alot of people on this site that were brought up with the same term. OH! Welcome to YT and good luck in your decision! |
