Thanks for all the response y'all! Yes I'm planning on getting whichever sex fixed. Even though yorkie babies are so precious none running around the house right now for me ... maybe later down the road but not right now at least. Having the dog pick you ... that's interesting! I've had a few people say that to me but I never really thought about it before. Girls seem like they're trying to compete when there's a male in the house and vice versa ... it's funny because I kinda remember learning that in psychology way back. I guess that wouldn't matter too much since I live with two girls haha. When it gets down to it, I'll go in open minded and whatever puppy steals my heart then he/she is the one :) Regardless I already know I want another one but it wouldn't be any sooner than a year after I get my first so eventually I'll have the best of both worlds! :) |
Oh one more thing... I do want a lap dog. I def want one that's sweet and very cuddly! I pretty much want my yorkie baby attached to my hip :) |

Thanks everyone!! I think I'm going to shoot for a boy and eventually get a girl so they can play together :) |
When we went to the pound to pick out my dog, I saw they had a yorkie, which I have always LOVED and I immediatly HAD to have. However, when I found out he was a boy, I must admit I was a little dissappointed because I too wanted a girl to dress up and put bows on and what not. But when I was reading up about yorkies I read that the boys where more affectionate as everyone says. Although I have never had a girl yorkie, I must say that my boy yorkie is much more affection to me than he is to my boyfriend even though he actually lives with my boyfriend. When I go to stay over there he always knows who I am and forgets about my boyfriend! I personally will continue to get male yorkies, but would love to have a girl just to see how their personalities differ. I think you will know your yorkie when you see him/her. You will know! Good Luck! |
I think no matter what, your Yorkie, boy or girl will love you. But even my breeder (40 years of experience and many champs under her belt) told me that males tend to be more affectionate and take training better. Females tend to me moody little queens that go to bed as well trained little princesses and wake up like little tramps without one day of obedience school. I wanted a girl originally but since I really didn't take to the only one my breeder had available I'm going with a boy, I am eventually going to get a girl though. I'm still going to dress him up as much as I ever was going to dress up a she. |
haha thanks for the laugh serenity! I've heard that boys are easier to train too ...plus this being my first time raising a dog all by myself, I think that would def. help! I think I'm just terrified of getting a very bad, disobedient dog. I want my first time to go very smoothly! But yeah I, too, want to a second one eventually! :) |

Serenity- so you're getting a boy? that's exciting! When are you getting your furbaby? Thought about any names yet? :) |
We should be getting him in about three weeks, it's so hard to wait out the time, I keep thinking of Mission Impossible type of plans to get my hands on him but I know he needs to stay with his pack until he's ready. I've thought of a bunch of silly names and looked 'round in the forums for name threads but so far nothing's struck my fancy. My list includes: Creamy (I was eating whipped cream), Mr. Bits, Grumpy (like one of the seven dwarfs), Darcy (I love Pride and Prejudice), Bruce (I love Batman), Batsy (again, I love Batman), Kiwi (saw it on a forum), Benito (sounds cute in Spanish) .... I can't remember anymore than that. Your turn! |
Oh I bet it's hard to wait out the time being that you're so excited to get him! I can only imagine ... I CANNOT wait to get my furbaby even though it won't be for another couple of months haha. I think my roommates are sick of hearing me talk about how excited I am and how I can't wait. And every time I go into a store I ALWAYS look in the pet section for future ideas! I did that too- I found a couple of good forums with cool names ... but I forgot to write them down :( ! Your names are cute! I'm aiming to get a boy and I really like Brody (found it on here), Pacey (because Joshua Jackson was just so darn cute on Dawson's Creek which I LOVED when I was younger), Louis (I love Louis Vuitton), Teddy (hoping to get a baby with a teddy bear face). I like Benny or Benji but too many boys have spoiled that one for me haha. Oh and I like Kohli and Keagan too. So I'll probably put all the names that I like in a hat and just pick one because I know I won't be able to decide haha |
Well, I have both. 4 girls and a boy. I used to be ALL about girls...and yes they are fun to dress up and spoil...:D And honestly, my girls are, for the most part, just as affectionate as a boy. Now, Sophie and Brooklyn have that streak of female personality, where they want to be off by themselves and don't like a lot of cuddling...BUT that's usually only if they're mad at me...lol. Maddie and Mikayla, however, are both very loving and follow me everywhere. I love my little girls to death. But, there's something about having a little boy too...my tiny guy...:D He's just SOOO loving...always wants to give kisses...and loves everybody. Now, I have to say, my girls DO bark at everyone else and are VERY protective of me...which I sort of like...but boys aren't usually that way... Anyways...it's a tough decision. Do you tend to like the more independent and protective nature, or the loving and friendly nature? Although...you could get an independent boy and a friendly girl...lol. I think someone else mentioned that it really depends on the individual dog...so when you find a reputable breeder, spend some time with both...and see who suits your personality better. OR you could get one of each!!! :D |
My male Reece is stuck to me like glue...I think Soleil my female would be too if Reece would let her lol.. Dawn |
I like the girls but they are more independent |
