I also got tired of Luna doing that, she would jump in with all four paws and hop up and down until she and a 3' diameter of floor were soaked:laugh: It was cute as heck, but a PITA:rolleyes: Anyway, we have since switched to water bottles (one in the kitchen and one in our bedroom). They took to them pretty much right away and now I only need to clean and refill them once a week, as opposed to 5X a day with the bowls:laugh: If you take the bowl away, she WILL drink from the bottle. |
Wow! I didn't know so many had the same issue! LOL Glad I'm not alone!!! Well, I do use washable pee pads ( I LOVE washable pee pads!!!) under the bowl, but even that is getting just drenched. I could try the pish pads........ Or, I could try just pulling the bowl and see if they will all adjust to the water bottle........... We'll see :) Hey - water bottle users......which ones do you use??? I have one thats very stubborn and the water doesn't come out very well. I have a hard time getting it going..... Thanks all! |
I have heard that the Edstrom Water Buddy is the best and doesn't leak at all. It is the same kind that they use in the Celtei Bags (the 8 oz. size). I just ordered four of them (32 oz. size) I will let you know how they work. They also have a Water Swiggler for larger dogs, but after talking to the company I decided that the regular one would be best for our little ones as it requires less pressure. They are also nice because you can fill them from the top. You don't have to take them down every time. The best prices I found for them were www.bunnyrabbit.com and www.woodlandbird.com. If you are getting the 30 oz. water swiggler for larger dogs the best place is agselect.com as they are on sale right now. Hope this helps! Quote:

My solution was to center the water dish on a washable potty pad-- if you choose to try this method, use a brand new one so that your kid won't use it for it's intended purpose. You could have them custom made to match your decor - at leaast one of our talented seamstresses makes them. Because it's important to "win" the Yorkie Wars we start to maintain discipline, I choose my battles carefully. This one was easier to compromise . Good luck! |
Why not try a boot tray? Place the dish on top of it and he/she can splash away.:D |

My Addison used to dig in her bowl so I got her a bistro, well that just gave her more water to throw around! What worked for me was getting a petfresh fountin. I got the smallest I could find and she hasen't tried to splash around yet and we have had it going on 4 months now. I really like it, the water stays cooler because of the constant movement and it has a removable filter for germs and dirt. The actual bowl part that she drinks out of is small and I believe that discourages her from playing in it. I'm not really sure why getting the fountin worked, but it has saved my floors and my towel laundry. |
We only use water bottles, we found some at Petco in the rabbit section that work great!! They are easy for the puppies to use and are easy to refill as well...we currently have four in our house, which makes it so we don't have to refill them all the time. We put towels underneath them, b/c they do have a tendency to drip when first refilled, but it has help so much with keeping their breads dry and not have water all over the floor. With two show boys in the house, we couldn't have their faces always in the water... It took all of them a couple of days to understand what do to...we would take them over to it and show them how to get the water and give them a drink and then leave them alone for a while and watch what they do. Once we had all the bowls of water up, they soon figure out where the water was and are now pros at it. I would defintely recommend the water bottles, it has been a saving grace at our house!! |
I bought some from Walmart and some from Target, but they really were messy with leaking. I sure hope the water buddy is as leakproof as they say, 'cause they sure cost a lot more! What kind did you get? Quote:
