They are so dark, barely any white, it seems so off from the Biewer standard.
I wonder what the dogs will look like in three generations.

Ok, I went back and read their info. again. It does say the F1 crosses will be solid in color due to genetics.

Last November at the Show Of Shows held at Montreal , I saw 3 Yorkies with their full tails . 2 of them received championship points .

These dogs were very beautiful .

I wanted to say hello and welcome. I enjoyed reading your posts. It is always fun to get the perspective from another country. I understand the controversy over docking tails, especially if it is done later in life when it is painful, and I understand the history of it, to prevent potential tail injury later with "working dogs".

There is a movement in this country to stop the practice. In fact, I believe it is Los Angeles or Beverly Hills or somewhere like that is trying to pass a law "banning all cosmetic surgery" on animals. At first, I thought it was funny because I was picturing people taking their animals in for face lifts or something, but now I understand what they are saying. They want to stop any surgery alteration done for purely aesthetic reasons.

That's nice to hear that in Canada dogs who normally have docked tails are able to win undocked. I do wish that 'frame of mind' would follow down here. But I don't see it happening any time soon.

I agree with the dogs winning with undocked tails where normally they wouldn't based on the country's standard. I myself would not mind if my yorkie and springers had their tails - I think they are pretty. It is nice to hear from other country's.

Sure it is different from what we are used to see but they truly have charm .

The controversy is becoming louder in the US in "West Hollywood" I believe an ordinance was passed making tail docking and ear cropping illegal! Next thing we know they'll be a jail for dockers and croppers:)

Following up on this issue (what a great post btw), a good number of American dogs were unable to compete at the world dog show (FCI) last year because they were of the ear cropping/docking vein. We did have a lovely Aussie there though. They come naturally with bobbed tails! :rolleyes:

Fem - there is a movement all over the country to limit or bann dog breeding all together and as I am sure the posters to this thread know, there's a movment to make the dog fancy a thing of the past - all together. :(

Hey, have you heard that some judges in the U.S. wont put up a dog if its tail is docked too long? Forgive my nievity, but I thought judges were supposed to look past that? :confused:

I'd like to add an agility perspective here -

Chris Zink writes in her book "Jumping from A to Z," that dogs jump differently when they lose thier tails. She explains that the tail acts like a counter balance for the dog and helps the dog over the jump, change direction, and reduce the stress on his front end.

In fact, I think she may have also mentioned in her column from CLeanRun Magazine, Sally Sports Vet, that removing the dew claw is also disadvantageous as the when a dog runs, the hock flexes to such a degree that the dew claw actually comes in contact with the ground and gives the dog more grip, making it easier for the dog to turn and change direction.

I have heard that FCI will soon ban for good tail docking and ear cropping. If i'm not mistaking, in Brazil, CBKC will start banning it later in this year.

Thanks for the link! Interesting article. I had heard that newborn puppies don't feel pain. They say they do. That makes a difference to me.

Yorkieagility: Your point about using the tail for balance makes sense as well.

If I have a choice in the mater, my next dog will not have a docked tail.

I am proudly owned by 2 female Biewers and 1 male-all with undocked tails. I am also proudly owned by a male AKC parti boy that has become the love of mommie's life since I had to have my heart-of-my-heart, Jesse, euthanized. My parti has a docked tail, shorter than I like but still longer than my female AKC blue/tan female piebald gene carrier whose tail is way too short!..I will breed these two when I am ready and I expect at least 50-50 partis. This prospect is so exciting-I have used very good lines for my standard colors and I am hoping to be as successful with getting good, healthy, well-socialized babies in these new colors. I am now owned by another off-color Yorkie and we shall see what we might do with them. What will I do if they are not to be bred? Love their wee selves as pets.
As for tail docking-I had them done at the vet only ONE time...Short tails, crying puppies and 1 totally unhappy human mom. I went to my mentor and said "Show me how to do this! I am a nurse and I know darned well I can do it better".. She did and I have docked my puppies' tails ever since. The babies screech at being turned on their back(that is how I hold them) away from mom. Dew claws are not the easiest thing to do with kicking babies on their backs, but that is also done with no cutting so no screaming in pain(except from me!)I turn the music up loud so the others do not hear me and I sing--you don't want to hear me sing! Maybe that is why puppies are so good-so I will stop singing. LOL I occasinally have a bleeder and if more than a couple of drops, on goes the styptic powder and the gauze and a wee dab of tea tree oil to keep mom from pulling the tape and licking the tail..
