All dogs have a strong sense of smell, when you take them for walks they are "reading their mail" That's what our Vet calls it.;) He said that's why they will "mark" areas, they are letting other dogs know they were there. If there's a new dog in town, the others will react, some in fear, and some will keep on walking in hopes of finding their new friend.;)

I did go back when I got home from work last night at 5:30 with Buddy.
It was broad daylight out and it is not in a seclued area at all so I felt
pretty safe, really. Sure enough when we hit the same spot his tail went
under and he became frightened again. He pulled me back and would not
go further. I did look around the ground very closely, nothing, looked into
the woods for about 8ft in length by walking in the street and saw nothing.
You can see right into the woods beyone the low brush that surrounds
the grassy area. Just nothing there. It was a scent that was there that
scared the fur off of him would be my guess.
I went back like usuall for our second walk this am and sure enough as
soon as we hit the spot the tail went between his legs but he continued
to sniff around, not like yesterday. I would guess the scent was starting
to fade but he still smelled it. He walked slowly, tail tucked under until
we passed the area but was still frightened. Very strange. I would guess
it was some kind of wild animal that he never smelled before.
I'll just have to stay aware at night for our walk before bed.
Strange for sure. Boy did that incident come at the right time of year.

Wow, that's creepy! Seems like everything is working out alright though if he is less scared now.

That is so strange, but dogs do have instincts that we could only dream of....maybe this is the "CSI Effect" that i've heard so much about being employed in the legal system, but my mind wonders to a homicide or something like that. You are right on the appropriate timing with Halloween and all, of course they say, and this comes from my love of the show Ghosthunters (I love those guys!) that sometimes hauntings only occur at certain times.

Now, I can add a strange one to this..My moms dog was very close to her mother(my grandma)..anyway, when g-ma died, mom sold her house and moved in to g-mas house..Well a few different times, Moms dog would start staring and then following with his eyes, like he was watching something..Mom said it was really eerie, he did this for quite sometime...when I would be up there, I would see him do the same thing, like he saw something or someone, and it would give you kind of a strange feeling..it's not an old house, my brother had it built back in 1992, so he and my g-ma were the only ones that had ever lived there...There were a lot of strange things that have happened in that house..

You do hear of these things from time to time. I do know a dog's scences
are far beyond our's. Grandma must have come back for a visit or maybe
her spirit still lives there. Somehow that is comforting since it's grandma.
If it were in a house I just bought and it wasn't my grandma I would be
scared out of my mind.

Hmmmmmmmm that's a thought. They were spotted last year in the area
and I was afraid every night I went out last winter. Holy cow I hope they
are not back again. They attacked a Rottie on it's own property in broad
daylight last fall. Dog survived! Thank heavens.
I didn't see anything in the paper but that is a great possiblity.

This is sure a mystery! If only dogs could talk!

2 other things that have happened, is one day, Mom looked out the window, and G-mas car(after she had passed) had rolled down the driveway, and parked itself across the street right next to the curb..then another time, the globe on the kitchen light..well, mom got up in the morning, and that globe was laying on the floor, not a crack in it..and none of the dogs had barked at night, like they do when they hear a noise..I can tell you one thing, I go to sleep very fast at her house, to where it takes me quite awhile to get to sleep here..

Oh my gosh Carol, that is scary. :eek: Buddy is trying to tell you something. But I truly think there was a "presence" in that area. By that I mean a spirit, or something like that.

My sister's dog would not stay in her basement by himself. He would cry and whine and act scared down there when he was by himself and he never did that anywhere else. :confused:

They are around here , surounding neighbors lost 3 within the last yr, all small dogs...but of course they just open their doors and let them out without them being supervised :mad: i live out in the country and my 2 are never ever without the leash, and when going outside i allways am on the defensive.... coyotes are getting pretty bold and are very sneaky !!!!
