Sleep is an issue..we need help Hi everybody, I have an eigh month year old adorable family member...Gidget. She has aleady been spayed and is a real treat. As far as potty training, she is getting better and better...actually she was fine before her surgery and then all of a sudden she started having accidents again. That is not a biggie, b/c I know it will get better. MY MAIN WORRY IS THE SLEEP ASPECT. We have had to crate her at night, trying to get her to have a better sleep pattern...she yelps and moans 2-3 times a night until we take her out. Does anyone have an ideas of how to handle it. She goes for a 15-20 minute walk around 6:30 or 7...eats around 7:30...gets walked at 8:15 and then 10:15...we are hoping she could at least last til 5:30 or 6. MY WIFE AND I NEED SOME HELP!!! Life is upside down with waking up every couple of hours. I know it is good baby practice, but we are not there yet :). PLEASE HELP...thanks, Scott |
Hi and welcome! Does she actually have to go potty when she gets up in the midle of the night? Do you put her back in the crate after she goes potty or do you let her sleep with you? |
My 4 almost 5 month Yorkie was doing the same thing. We finally decided to try her on our bed with our other two dogs. She sleeps ALL night without a problem. We figure she was just getting lonely and wanted to be with everyone else. We were trying to wait because we didn't want her to try jumping off the bed or getting squished because she is so little, but she stays put in between my husband and I and seriously sleeps all night! Are you against yours sleeping in your bed, or were you just trying to wait like we were? |
I'd move her dinner time up to about 4-5 o'clock, so she has a chance to do her thing before she goes to sleep. That's what we did and it worked like a charm. |
Moving dinner time helps a lot, so does picking up water 2 hours before the last trip outside. (A little sip is OK, but mine decide to drink what's left in the bowl at 10:45 :rolleyes: ) Also, if she WAS fine and now she isn't, check with your vet. Loki could NEVER sleep through the night and he had some medical issues he is on medicine for now and he has slept through the night ever since. |
Have you ever ignored her when she wakes up in the middle of the night? Perhaps she's learned...if she cries...you'll come get her. |
I might be in the minority here, but I am going to say it anyway... Maybe she is just not a fan of the crate. Is there an area where you can leave her out of her crate? Our puppy sleeps so much better in a gated off room with my DD (7) then he ever did in his crate. |

I would take her to the vet then, especially if she is having that many accidents. Obviously it's not normal. Does she also drink a lot of water? Also, it's typical for females to have these issues after they are spayed. That's why i would talk to the vet. |
How long In everybodies' opinion, about how long after eating does your family member need to go #2? We are trying to time Gidget's meal better. Thanks |
You know I've seen it said about 20 minutes but that never seems to ring true with mine. Mine is just usually 2 times a day and usually I see no connection to to it being around the time they ate. Usually they go once in the morning before they even eat and then once in the afternoon sometimes before dinner sometimes after. |
