Help with the "pee-pee pads" I have a 1 year old Yorkie who is trained to go on her pee-pee pad when she needs to go. The problem we have is 7 times out of 10, she'll put her 2 front paws on the pad and the other 2 off the pad and "goes" thinking she's doing it on the pad. We can't really discipline her for peeing on the floor because technically she's doing it in the area she's supposed to. I guess my question is to see if anyone has any tips to make her go on the middle of the pad every time. We do watch her closely most of the time, but even then she walks around her pad 5-6 times and then squats wherever she decides. Her pad is always clean, so this wouldn't be the reason. Also, we started using the crate for when we work during the day. This has worked wonders since we began this 3 months ago. However, lately she'll pee just as she hears us coming in the door. I guess she's excited that we're home, but I'm afraid she'll start doing this every time. She doesn't do this everyday, but I'm still worried. Would you suggest moving the crate closer to our door so we have quicker access to the crate, etc.. We haven't changed any of our habits, so I'm wondering what can spark this change. Thanks for your feedback! |
I have my pads in a tray that keeps them in place, I don't know if that would help but they are high enough on the sides so it's almost like they have to get in it. ? As far as peeing in the crate i'm sure it's just because of holding it for a while and then getting so excited that your home it comes out almost involuntary. Maybe using an ex-pen instead of a crate would benefit you. That way the pee pad is always available so the bladder isn't full when you come home. |
Are you using a special tray designed for the pads or just a regular tray? Thanks for the advice. |
Well... I too have the same issue at times w/ the pee pad, though not as much lately. Maybe you can try using a larger sized pad (which is something Im thinking of doing). Meka is 7 mo's now, and I know she knows where to go... But, sometimes when I watch her - as you stated, she'll move/smell around a few times before she goes... I also have a spray that I put on the pad - thats suppose to make them want to go... As far as your pup peeing in her crate... Sounds like she's definately excited that your home. From my own exp and what Ive read on here, you have to let them calm down a little before you greet her. Hope this helps :D |
here is a link to the one I have. It doesn't have a bottom, it is a small plastic square that is the size of the pads, you lay the pad on top of it and then the bigger plastic square fits over the bottom one to hold it in place. http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Solutio.../dp/B0009YWEWY |
I put my pee pad on a boot tray, so she she has to step into it. Even though the edge is like an inch, she still has to step IN. |
I put my pads in a doggy litter box because Sugar likes to use the very edge. It works perfectly. |
See I read and learned :D Gotta get something to put pad on so Mags will have to step into it. She's great about going on her pad but gets right on edge sometimes and oops !! lol |
