donnajinva | 10-21-2007 04:34 AM | Please Train me so I can train him!!! Harley is 3 1/2 months old. I got him when he was 2 1/2 months old. He has been doing pretty well with peeing on a pad. He will go when I ask him to and 90% of the time on his own; just a rare accident. He is crated at night and when I have to leave him for an hour or two and has never had an accident in the crate. BUT, he will run and hide behind the couch or under the dining room table to poop. Most of the time I can catch him in time and run him to the pad. I praise him like crazy and give him a treat. I watch him like a hawk, but he will wait for that split second that I am distracted and run away and poop on the carpet. He doesn't waiste any time sniffing around so that he can get away with it! I know that he knows he is not susposed to poop on the floor because if I follow him into the dining room when he is trying to sneak away he barks at me! LOL He never goes to the pad to poop. I have tried taking him outside to potty but he won't pee or poop outside at all. I know his poop schedule, but he will just hold it outside and try to eat leaves and stuff and ignore me saying "good boy go potty". SO, I got an xpen and set it up in the kitchen with his pad, a pillow he likes to sleep on, toys and food and water. The first day he just refused to poop. Today I put him in the pen as soon as we got up. He pooped on the pad and peed so my husband let him out to play inside the house for awhile. After about 30 min. I took him over to his pad and asked him to pee and he did. Then he immediately ran into the family room and peed again on the rug! While I was going for supplies to clean it up he ran behind the couch and pooped! Ugh. I thought it would be ok since he had not eaten since last poop 30 min before! What am I doing wrong?? Does he need to stay in the pen all waking hours? I don't work and can do whatever is necessary, I'm just not sure exactly what to do. |
