eating carpet problem Hi all, I'm having some trouble with my Brownie. He likes to semi-dig the carpet, and when he does that, the carpet fluffs come out, which he seems to eat:eek: . I have chew toys and the dingo hides for him to chew on, but sometimes even if I give him the toys/hides, he just goes back to the carpet and makes fluffs to chew/eat on. Has anyone else had this kind of a problem? I'm at a loss on how to stop him from doing it:confused: . I thought about bitter-spraying, but it doesn't seem realistic to bitter-spray the whole floor :( Thanks in advance. |
Is your entire house carpeted? Otherwise you can limit his roaming area to only non-carpeted surfaces. Eventually when you let him back into the carpet room, and he does it remove him immediately so he gets the idea bad behavior = removal. |
My kitchen and bathroom are not carpeted. I'm not playing with him or anything when he's digging/eating the carpet, though I am next to him. So I can't do the ignore-him method since he's playing by himself in the first place :( I'm guessing I'm supposed to leave him alone when I put him in the non-carpetted area? I'll give it a try. Thanks a lot! |
I'm bumping you up to get some more ideas. There is one spot that Coby has begun to be obsessed with and dig and pull on. I've just used the water bottle and stood on the spot to "claim it". If it's just one spot, maybe try some Bitter Apple spray. Sometimes, they'll find just a spot and become obsessed with it. The Bitter Apple might take care of that. |
That's what I use, the bitter apple, works like a charm. |
Yeah, I usually do it on specific items he chews on, but as for the carpet, he doesn't have one specific spot. He does it everywhere where there's carpet :( I don't really have a problem him chewing on the carpet, but he eats the fluffs after he makes little fluff balls by digging... |
This dog I just got refuses to play with toys, like he never had any and he is five month. I just got him couple days now. He has been attacking carpet, rugs, socks, shoes, bed every thing he can find. I never had this with my Pom ever, now I just dont know what to do. He is five months. Pulls out the weave of the rugs and EATS it as well, maybe they need fiber LOL. Its so annoying as I never had a chewing dog. |
